ok so i had H-L2 on my macine before but i decided to run linux on it and it erased all my programs and files. I also happened to move 2 months before and lost the game cd and box (contaning key) i am thinking of buying another copy but i write down all my cd keys on a sheet of paper that i still have. Is there a way to install it through steam w/out the cd? If not i am happy to buy another copy. Ok thanks guys.

Buy the way i am not bull shitting you this is not a try to score a free game.

If you've already played your key is still registered to your Steam. SO because you've lost the disc, just log in to your steam sccount and download the entire HL2l through steam. (not the best idea it will take ages but might be better than buying a new copy)

That wasn't that long a story :)

You shouldn't even need the key, just your username and password...

Edit: you could also burn the .gcf's from somewhere else if you don't have a very fast connection.

than im "effed" i made a new one and thought i could regester the key. SHIT.

You don't remember your new steam login name and password?
If you could at least remember the login name, you could use the password retreival tool. It'll email you the password to your account.

If you don't remember the name either, i'm sure you could talk to techsupport at valve, they might be able to send you all your account passwords to email addresses you specify or something like that.

IE: they check their database for your addresses, and hit the send password button :P
I'm sure they'd have ways to check validity, IP tracking etc...

Don't buy another copy.
