I was looking around the MSDN website today and I came across these videos. I am warning you they are extremly boring but some of the features in longhorn are just amazing if you are involved in, realestate, healthcare, financial services, educations, telecom, manufacturing, and governemt. (yes I watched them all) Here is the Link
It looks like you will be able to install programs and run them instantly. Or something along those lines.
Those lucky bastards that are parts of the MSDN already have acess to longhorn and can download it anytime they want.
The new interface looks really cool. Its nice to see a darker iterace for a change. It looks like they have shrunk the side taksbar. I hope the side bar doesnt screw around with my websites, because they are all coded for 1024x768.
The education video will probably apply to most of your guys lives, it had some really cool features, the instant messaging was only of my favorites. I also like the fact that for a math class if the the teacher puts a formula into the document you can add in the numbers buy yourself to get the calculation. It would be nice for when im doing my homework if I could create a document with all the formulas on it and then instead of having to write everything out buy hand I could just let the computer do the work for me. (im in a physics class so this would save me alot of time)You could create formulas in microsoft excell at the moment but I always found it to difficult. Now alot of the things in this video look very cool, but if the average user isnt able to do some the of things shown in the video with ease then microsoft might as not put the features in.
Alot of the things in those video's look very, very cool but im a little worried about privacy. Microsoft has made it easy to communicate between virtually anyone, and if you are not careful you may grant access to folders on your pc. On windows xp it was as easy and clicking do not share folder, but with longhorn it looks like it will be more difficult. For home users I dont think this will be much of a problem unless you are connected to a VPN or something like that. But for libraryies, or anything mentioned above, such as healthcare, or realestate it might become a problem. Microsoft looks like they are doing some things about it like only granting people administative rights to a folder for set number of days, and you have to be a verified user (or something along those lines). Im guessing with longhorn we will start to see viruses and worms like mad appearing all over the place. And with all the communication going on it will be a hackers playground. So I really hope microsoft really put alot of effort into security.
If anyone else has some information on longhorn please post it.
God I wish I was part of the MSDN. ;(
EDIT: I also found this website. It may be old news but some of the stuff still looks cool.

The login screen actually has a clock
Login screen has clock
Disk Space
Images, easier to find and you can add keywords
Take out the taskbar (kinda)
EDIT: Does anyone know that the integrated DVD burning will do? Will you be able to just burn data or can you do other things also?
