in today's modern society?

Just had a conversation with my mate about losing one's virginity, and it seems to be a big deal in some places. You're not seen as being 'cool' at school if you havent lost it by like 16-18. However, some people (and yes, in that age group aswell) dont care whether you lose it at 10 or if you lose it at 60+.

I for one dont think it matters when you lose it, but it seems some social groups out there make a big deal about it. Anyone else share the same view? I personally am still a virgin, and dont care about anyone that laughs at me. People should feel ready when they feel ready, not when society dictates it, not so?

regardless of what society thinks, it's a big deal for a man especially to go about losing his virginity as soon as he hits puberty.
why waste time experiencing one of the most important experiences of your life

yeah it's a big deal, because it's incredibly easy to do unless you're a socially reclusive outcast (read: loser). it happens to everyone sooner or later. it's a different case if you choose not to for one reason or the other.

with that said, it's nothing special, practically everyone you'll ask will say the first time was shit. it's the following times that make the difference. sex is fun, and i don't see any reason why you should shut it out of your life.

you're not cool if you don't wear the right clothes, you're not cool if you don't say the right things, the list goes on.

It's fun, but it's not amazing. I can think of a whole lot of other things I'd rather do (most of the time).

I just don't understand the 13 yr olds who have sex, where are they learning this stuff?? We need to get desperate housewives off the tv...

Lost the 'V' plates a few days before Christmas, with my current girlfriend which for me was the right kinda situation i felt most comfortable doing it, with someone i care deeply about

Some people that say they did it as soon as they hit puberty are either (generalising here) jerks or regret what they did

Oh, the degeneracy! Get that filth off the air!

Enough hysteria for you, or do I need to knock it up a notch? (BAM!)

To some people it is... to others, it is not.

It seems boring, but that's the way it is. I don't particularly find it all that important. I've had a few chances, but I've declined.

It's not a big deal. Ignoring the whole "it's a personal preference" thing, I know a lot of people who haven't had sex yet and not because they're losers, outcasts, or have some crippling deficiency. They just haven't, for whatever reason. They're shy. They don't like the prospect of not living up to their partner's expectations in bed. As a possible consequence of that, they don't like stupid airheads blabbering about their business to mates. Or it's just an absolute non-factor to them, and simply won't bother going out of their way to get some unless it drops on their lap.

The race to get laid in high school was one of the most annoying things I've experienced in my life. And considering the mentality for a lot of people around those ages, I'm glad I didn't take part in it.

I'm a virgin but my mates don't really give me a hard time about it, but I sorta get what you mean, it's sorta disgusting with all these little kids that just hit puberty that run around ****ing people, heck, my 14 year old ex(I'm 16) shagged with a 20 year old.. I didn't shag her because I felt she was too young and she's under the age of consent her.

do I need to knock it up a notch? (BAM!)

hehehehe

I don't really care much about it... I've had fun but it's not big enough of a deal to get wound up about. The problems come with STD's, pregnancy etc... the words 'I'm late' are likely to scare the shit out of a lot of you guys sooner or later

There've been times where I've prayed that a few people are on the pill.

As soon as you leave school, people stop giving a damn whether you've had sex, what clothes you wear, what "scene" you're in, or any of that crap.

I don't think it's a big deal now, because a big deal was made about it not being a big deal, y'know?

Like how smoking isn't cool because it was cool to not smoke. Or something.

Yeah, I haven't a clue what the **** I'm talking about.

I didn't lose mine until I was 18...not by choice. ;( I don't want to be a loser.

in this sexist society where sex and being sexy is the most inportant stuff, problably being virgin is like being in a lower class

I dont care about that but problably there is people that will consider someone gay if he/she havent lose the virginity

in a crazy exagerated future predictions, company wouldnt hire virgins

What if you lose your virginity to another man? Will you NOT be considered gay then because you've lost your virginity?

You've crushed my spirit Harij. :(

Yes I agree with the OP. I'm glad I'm gonna be done with high school in June, no more "cliques" or "social status" idiocy. I just don't get how such idiotic beliefs became so prevalent in the high school setting. Even in junior high, kids were making fun of each other because they were still virgins (keep in mind that the ages of junior high generally range from 12-15)

It isn't really a big deal in my school or in my group of friends. Everyone needs his or her time.

It's a big deal with my old friends. I lost it when I was 14 to my friend's 16 year old sister, after that I lost some friends.

I just think theres alot of people out there making people feel bad about still being a virgin, simply because they themselves either are too, or aren't.

lol wtf cares, "OMG you're not a virgin?!" "yeah, I kinda would like to care about the person I do it with, EXCUUUUUSE ME!"
But Russian...was she hot? ;)

My group of friends and I all just screwed each other at the time to get it over with. This may r may not be true. OK, it's not, I lost it to a friend of my sister's who was spending the night. She was some slut cheerleader and it was this mind-blowing (at the time) stander. She ended up getting knocked up about a year later. Fun stuff.

Some guy impregnated her, when you couldn't. Does that make you feel like less of a man?

Haha, yeah she was. The funny thing is that she came to me asking for sex, so I just went along. :naughty:

I AM A VIRGIN

Who cares if you're a virgin? Why the heck should that ever matter? Some of us are Virgin by choice.

What I do wonder is if any of you proud virgins take a dim view of promiscuous people...

Promiscuous - "Promiscuous" is a pop–hip hop song recorded by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland for Furtado's third album Loose (2006). The song was written by Furtado, Timbaland and Nate Hills, and produced by Timbaland and Danja. "Promiscuous" was released as the album's first single in North America in early 2006 (see 2006 in music) and as the second single elsewhere in mid-2006. It reached number one in Canada, New Zealand and the United States, becoming her most successful single to date in North America. The song was awarded for the "Best Pop Song" at 2006 Billboard Music Awards and has been nominated for the "Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals" at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.

I'll admit, theres times I envy you, but its not for me.

Sex isn't a big deal really. Personally, I wanted it out of the way . Every other time since has been better than the first - so I'm not arsed.

It's the same principle I apply to the whole number of people you've slept with. Doing it for the number is pathetic - I do it cos I actually LIKE the girl involved :p

EDIT: Don't judge me, I know I'm a slag.

Nothin' wrong with that. Like I said, who cares what anyone else thinks?
I'm just trying to root out some hypocrisy.

Meh. I go to a swingers club. It's fun, you should try it. In fact, the best thing about it is you can just talk to anyone. I went by myself the first night and left several hours later with a load of new friends.
You get a few creepy pervy guys down there, but that's alright because it reflects well upon those of us who aren't like that. Competitive advantage and such.

I honestly just don't care. I've had it offered, but I don't want to do it with some random slut, y'know? I might change my mind later, but it will be my decision. In the mean time you can take your social regulations and shove them up your ass.

People often try to find reasons to make them selfs feel better or to undermine others, the more important something is, the more it hurts and the more superior they feel. It can be looks, smarts, strength, and off course sex. Now like it or not sex is something which is very important, it is also somewhat of a symbol of adulthood. So when you or your opinion differ from the normal people will use it against you, and off course it is ridiculous. There are many reasons why someone would have and not have sex. It's just that reason doesn't matter when it comes to being cool.
