Ok, this will be a generic post, so if you visit other HL2 sites, prepare to see it there, too, cuz I'm just copying and pasting.
LC: DQ - 2:59 - 3 minutes and change (Valve intro) - ~79mb (demo included)
This can easily be beaten, as well, if one were so inclined. You could probably just "fly" up to the top without fighting anyone at all, but what fun would that be? Plus you have to look straight down to fly so navigating a path would be difficult. Still...you could probably get it down to 1:30 or so doing that. But as it is there are so many spots with room for improvement it could probably be 2:30 with doing just the run I did, only cleaner...easily.
Now, as for the beginning I have no clue what's going on, but I included the demo as well, and that's exactly how it's recorded. It doesn't do the "fade from black and you stand up" thing. It just does what you see. And the thing dropping in the water is what I assume to be Gordon, falling out of the sky. When playing, you can hear that splash, too. I guess they put it there for sound reasons, assuming you'd never see it anyway, since your screen should be black when you hear it. My theory, anyway. Gordon falls from the sky and makes a splash, wakes up then stands up. Just doesn't happen that way in demos I guess.
The only "editing" done to the demo was using the demo editor to remove the HUD towards the end to get a clean shot of the fisherman, which is done after it's been recorded anyway.
specs:
p4 2.4
1gb ddr400
6600gt
demo recorded in dx8, everything low, 800x600.
movie captured in dx9, everything maxed, 848x480 (16:9) <3 widescreen.
Even in dx8 I was barely pulling 10 fps in some spots, if that, (or felt like it anyway), especially on the last few legs of the cliff, and all the way into the courtyard. Once in the courtyard I got back up to normal fps for my rig. Which is what's so great about the in game movie utilities, you really don't see the lag at all.
As for the music, well...I was browsing through my mp3 folder and was wondering why that song was even on my HD, then looked and it just so happened to be exaclty 2:59 long. lol. I did fade it out a little early tho, so you could hear the fisherman, but anyhoo...
Ok, I've rambled enough. Enjoy it, flame it, beat it...whatever. I was bored.
Very, very bored.
