Lost Coast Hands-On at Gamespot

It's fine if they dont release it till August. I still need a new Video Card and another stick of Ram. Quick question, what would be a better investment. 6600 GT or 6800 GT?

I think it says november timeframe at the bottom of the article.

But i'm not positive. I'm tired.

The reviewer didn't really tell us what kindof impact the graphics had on him, and how they compared to today's games. We already know what HDR does, and that higher-resolution textures are being used. So the article isn't all that informative.

Lost Coast is using everything top-notch, and though it'll eat up most of the PCs' resources, Source engine is still considered as flexible machine wise. Meaning it runs farily good on both low-end and high-end machines, unless the modders stuff maps with props, spec. effects and other features that may slow down low-end machines.

HDR and high resolution textures have been used before, and yes, we've seen them. But Half-Life 2 pwns it, admit it. HDR + hi-res textures + Source engine. Our PC's are going to get smacked in the face with lag, unless your CPU is up to 3 GHz, you have at least 1 GB RAM, and of course, Radeon Xxxx series and GeForce 6xxx or 7xxx.

NOVEMBER?!?!? This add-on was supposed to come out last March! I've read "it will be ready within a few weeks" since early friggen March!

The November timeframe was for Aftermath, it just says 'near future' for Lost Coast...

I wonder, and doubt, if my 6600gt / AMD 64 3000+ / 1 GB RAM can handle Lost Coast even on lowest settings possible. Then again, with the lowest settings, it's probably not worth playing :|

You were a little off. :p

Rumor has it they managed to optimize the load time for lost coast down to only 20 mins....

Aftermath was never slated for March.

This isn't about Aftermath, it's about lost coast. Although I see the confusion. I blame pronouns.

And I'm very happy with my 6800 GT, it's a great value purchase, Uriel.

No, I wasn't. Do you really believe that crap? Man, you're naive and gullible. I don't know for sure, or rather, I'm afraid to be wrong and some of the forumers run up and pwn me, but either the developers always lower their machine minimum specifications just to get the bigger crowd buying their games, or every PC handles it differently.

If you suppose that every computer that has 2 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, and those fancy new VGA's will handle Lost Coast great, you're wrong. My computer supposed to handle Half-Life 2 perfectly. But even on Low settings I get lags time to time.

Pesmerga, your PC should handle Lost Coast fine. As long as you play, say, 800x600 or 1024x768 and everything on high, and keep your fingers off AA and AF, I think you're safe.

Oh, and the Hands-On sucked. Nothing informative, nothing new. "Well, it seems Lost Coast will be great! Yeah, it mainly uses HDR. It'll eat up lots of our PC resources. Because it seems great. But mainly it uses only HDR." and so on and so forth.

I think... I think Sinomomis was being facetious.

Easy there with words! I'm not that smart you know!

/me checks the vocabulary for facetious

Hope you were kidding, Reaktor4 - Athlon 64 FX-57 is one of the best dekstop processors out there.

I think he was kidding.

or he just went by the proccesor ghz speed which is like 2.8 isnt it

i was just making a rather thinly veiled point, i dont have an fx-57.

True.

It's similar to this. I'm a real Coldplay fan, and Chris Martin said in an interview "for every fan, there are two people who whate us".

Then somebody replied: "He must have a lot of fans then" and I really had to laugh about it.

I hate when valve says near future or coming soon. When I hear coming soon- I expect the game or level to be out the month they say coming soon. If they say very soon- i expect next or the other week. Like in the other news post "dod will be out the end of august" and then they go on to see lost coast will be soon. Does this mean they don't have a date estimate? or do they mean before DoD?

basically there saying it will be out later this hencing it will will be done at the end of the year and when they say soon its just so ppl dont get all angry and complain about it so it will make ppl think it will be like 2 weeks from now

Since "The Lost Coast" is a unused chapter from Half-Life 2, but with enhanced graphics, what else can we expect to see in this little add-on that wasn't used in HL2?
We've seen screenshots of the fisherman - this npc's code is in the SDK, so that means he's an unused entity reused...
I see codes for houndseye, bullsquid and lots of unused weapons... Damn, this Lost Coast thing is getting interesting ;)

Loast coast is a tech demo for technology..it isn't suppose to be some major gameplay add-on przemek... Obviously it probably wont have crap gameplay, but it isn't being made to introduce anything new in that area for HL2.

. Consequently, you'll purportedly need a 2 GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 6800 or Radeon X800 video card to smoothly run the level at max detail.

That means my Radeon 9800SE will be able to run lost coast?
because I used to have another 9800SE, and tried to run the HL2 HDR Lighting mod.. and well.. the game froze up and my graphics card overheated... The graphics card never worked again... :(

The HDR Mod was not true HDR it was just bloom. HDR itself will be far harder on the gfx card.

Though the real spec increase here isn't from HDR But from all the bump mapping, highly increased polygon rates and such.

yes and umm isnt a 9800se just like a 9600 since the 9800se has only 4 pipes instead of 8 and yes hes right that was just a light bloom mod (knock off HDR)

has anyone emailed valve about when this thing's coming out?
i finally got my comp fixed and this would be a great way to show off, other than BF2

Betcha my ol' 1993 Pakard Bell could handle lost coast... (400 Mhz, 3.7 Gb Memory, 32MB Ram, And A graphics card that is too holy to be named)
