An international team of scientists has recorded neutrino particles traveling faster than the speed of light, a spokesman for the researchers said on Thursday -- in what could be a challenge to one of the fundamental rules of physics.

Antonio Ereditato, who works at the CERN particle physics center on the Franco-Swiss border, told Reuters that measurements over three years showed the neutrinos moving 60 nanoseconds quicker than light over a distance of 730 km between Geneva and Gran Sasso, Italy.

I KNEW IT, EAT IT EINSTEIN.
*Travels at the speed of Googol*

So what are they basing their facts from? It could of been that Neutrinos travel in the opposite direction :D

Don't want to insult the lab, but it is known for making incredible claims which tend not to pan out. However, fingers crossed its true.

I can't wait till this technology helps me get to work on time

FTL communication.

Thats all I have to say on this matter. Awesome news.

This is my favourite thing that's happened recently.

Take THAT Physics!

So much happening this week.
Faster than light travel observed, car printers, etc.

Still no Episode 3.

Poor Einstein. He's gonna lose that Gamespot competition because of this. Oh no!

However, fingers crossed its true.

Really? If they've actually broken the speed of light, why would that necessarily be a good thing?

For one, my degree would be worthless :p

But for serious. If this were true, a lot of stuff that is known about science would probably become bullshit. So I kind of hope it isn't. I like science the way it is.

If it is true, then yeah I agree this will be the first practical application, not interstellar spacecraft.
For example real time communication between NASA and a robot on Mars.

I think it's pretty definite by now, that at the atomic scale and upward, you can't travel faster than light. At the sub-atomic level and below, it was always assumed the rules would carry over. Maybe for some reason a nuetrino can't gain mass as it apporaches the speed of light?
