*goes to watch*

EDIT: Looks pretty epic. Nice to see it still looks as punishing as the previous instalment. Literally the most unforgiving game I've ever played in the non-realistic shooter genre. You'd die after about 4 hits. Looks like this one has regenerating health though which could be good. I wonder if the playtester was genuinely crap at aiming or whether tommy guns are actually that inaccurate in-game. If so, I'd kinda like that. I'm always a pistol guy anyway.

Think I may crack out Mafia 1 some time later tonight/tomorrow.

yes!!!
loved the first game
this is definitely in my top 5 for this year

Looks pretty awesome.
Should probably get around to finishing the first game some day, the taxi missions turned me away from it. :/

Hmmm....

I was expecting this to be one of my favourite games ever but the gameplay reminds me of Quantum of Solace :|

Will watch it in a few minutes, buffering takes ages.

I'm near the end of my second playthrough of Mafia. I played it a few years ago and a few days ago, I thought it would be a good idea to give it another go. It's a good game, though driving from location to location, through the same routes, with the police eager to make your life harder, when you don't want to stop and pay a fine, cause you didn't want to crawl at 40mph or stop at a red light, can get a little tedious and annoying.

Also, it could use more music. I guess the later GTA's spoiled me a bit.

Looking forward to Mafia 2.

EDIT: Watched the video. It looks pretty awesome. It also looks more dynamic, which is good, as Mafia 1 is a bit too slow for me (the driving especially)

But, for ****s sake, regenerating health? Also, the player changed clips in his gun, even after firing only one or two shots - I guess that may mean that you won't lose the remaining ammo in your clip anymore? I'd rather it stayed the way it was previously.

Aside from the walking like a zombie of the main character looks pretty frikken sweet. :)

Looks pretty much the same as the first, which is good. The first Mafia had some of the best shootouts in any game. Just a few shots to kill the enemies.

That looked pretty good, except for the regeneration health. Can't wait to play it.

Heres some highlights from the article accompanying the video, translated from norwegain:

- 2K Czech has 120 people working fulltime on Mafia 2 + pluss 100 testers
- Good storytelling and realism a priority.
- The new city, Empire Bay is a mish mash of different american cities with 20 significantly different districts, the city is twice as large as Lost Haven and is without loading.
- "Sandbox for the sake of authentisity, not simply for freedom", "doing what you want is a bonus, not the essence of the game" , "Not the next GTA, but a independent and storydriven game with sandbox elements"
- 2 internal composers are making 1/2 of the music, while the other half is licensed music from the relevant timeperiod. More licensed music than any other 2K game
- The music on the radio change with the times; gloomy music in the forties, cheery music in the mid fifties.
- Big focus on believable sounds, from the soundeffects to the voice acting.
- 250 different character models who age over time.
- Detailed physics engine.
- Long, content filled missions with lots of dialogue, the missions can be solved in multiple ways.
- Linear story, with few choices.

Sounds good to me!

Looks alright. The driving and shooting seems a little ropey, but nothing that can't be ironed out.

hey thanks for posting this
sounds great
and i think the driving looks pretty solid

What is it with regenerating health and games latley?

Combat system didn't look very "gangster" to me. Too... tactical. I want big, stupid morons with guns they barely know how to use! Other than that, I am of course looking forward to the sequel to one of the world's greatest games.

Yeah.
Got to the 3rd or 4th taxi mission and gave up and played the Free Mode.

:|

Those weren't even missions. You just had to deliver five people and then the game actually started. And IMHO Mafia, while being a really good game, is crap as a sandbox, so I didn't find Free Mode fun. Free Mode Extreme is more interesting, but for that you need to complete the game first.

Go and play the game Lucid.

I played all the way through Godfather II, it is decent for passing time, but overall a very repetitive game with no replay value. It's not the least bit challenging either. If you skip this one, you won't be missing anything.

Fine!
God damn it. :frown:

I ask Reggy why the fudge regenerating health is ever a good thing, and agree with everyone's negative views on the system in this thread.

Other than that, the game looks great. Never played the original but might just pick this one up.

Yeah the game has a basic level type structure like most other games. The driving parts just tie them together. There's some cool levels like in the hotel and in the church.

Yeah I really liked that about the original. Enemies could run out of ammo too. Also, I liked how individual clips could be seen on the ground after you used them.

I'm not excited. Hopefully it'll be good as first game.

-When you get shot, screen goes red
-Regenerating health
-Combat doesn't looks fun

Cool thanks. Eurogamer also has a preview up atm, although of the same level shown.

Enemies could run out of ammo too.

My life is not worth living right now. There were times when I literally tried the same bit over and over and over and over again. Whereas if I'd just waited, they would have run out of ammo?

*sigh*

The only game besides episode 3 that I'm looking forward to on the PC. I hope it doesnt disappoint, but so far for a beta version it looks pretty awesome.
