Make up a weapon/device for HL2

A stake mine that you stab in the ground or something and it detonates a sub-atomic blast that is just power full enough to leave a crater.
 
or those massive rifles those guys had at the end of robocop 1
They blew up cars and junk.

As for a weapon, I think I'd make:

Anti-Grav Gun - It would shoot a small attachment deivce, that would make the enemy weightless.

High-pressure Water Canon - This kind of machinery is used to cut metal. I'd like a gun to cut the enemy in pieces, without it being some ''laser'' weapon.

Arctic Canon - This would freeze the enemy, then when the fall over - they bust into pieces.

Imploder - This would shoot a small metal ball that pieces the enemy; you then press second fire, and the enemy implodes.

how about some sort of lightning gun that shoots out a chain of lighting.. could be interesting.. you remember the weird electrical lightning things in HL1.. i wonder if they have improved those in HL2..

well since people are making some silly suggestions among the good stuff, here's my contribution to the silly stuff

a weapon that fires a thread bomb started by a troll taking the side of the hacker, all the enemies get pissed at it and start replying with stfu and reported! and go away noob! and while their all distracted you can use a bangun that makes them all dissapear. But you also have to remember to lock the thread bomb or it'll keep pulling in more and more enemies with increasingly pointless replies until the player himself is forced to join in and his life force is slowly sapped away and by then its game over

so do I win the competition for most lame weapon idea ever then? :)

The inventor calls it "HyperSonic Sound".

Someone even made a system for it to track a person's movement and keep the sound pointing at the person's ear.
... almost like the Minority Report ads where no one else hears what you are hearing.

It has lots of other uses.

How about an HSS megaphone? A beach lifeguard could warn a swimmer who was too far out. Over the crashing of waves, the swimmer would clearly hear the lifeguard's instructions. That sounds like fun...
 
another use of HSS.. use it on anyone who talks in the cinema while people are trying to watch the film, so all the chatterbox hears is very loud white noise until they shut the hell up

hmm yes, and you could attach a rope on it, because hl2 has rope/bungee entities. this would even be a great MP weapon, cause you could program it to ragdoll the victim on contact, so you could drag his corpse to you or throw him around at least once before he regains his footing.
 
Firstly a gun like the one from Unreal Tournament 2003, where you fire a "sphere" thing.. then you can detonate it by firing a beam at it... although for a better description it would basically be a little ball of energy, that you could fire, and as it floats forwards, u can then fire again to detonate (you have to be accurate though and hit it square on), and it would turn into a little low-powered black-hole, that would suck everything in from within a certain distance, for say, 5-8 seconds.. but if you detonated it too close to you, then you would get sucked in too and die. Could use some cool graphical shader effects like with the strider weapon for this, seeing papers and cans get thrown about as they get sucked in, before it collapses in on itself, doing a bit more damage at that point if u get too close.. at least theres tactical implications for it, say in smaller rooms, where you would have to be further back than in an open area.. while outdoors, if there was bad weather (assuming there are different weather conditions).. then say, if theres rain and lightning, it could interfere and cause multiple blackholes or possibly create other rifts that send some new aliens through or something.. just to make things more interesting. If you fired it underwater, it would create a plug hole effect as all the water swirled into it... although i think it would have to just be a special effect that sucked you in, but didnt actually take any water..
 
The Uneral 2 singularity cannon might be an easier implementation of that.

I like that.. maybe it would take a while for them to get down to temperature and while they are cooling, they would get paler and paler and blueish.. and maybe they would begin slowing down.. and then it gets to a point where they just stop and fall over.. maybe breaking into a few pieces, allowing you to take the manipulator gun and pick em up and toss em around..
you could also maybe shoot it at the floors and make the surface slippery... I'm wondering how monsters will react to a slippery surface, I remember HL1 haveing slick surfaces, but i dunno what the enemies did while they were on them, if they ever were on them..
would be cool watching enemies slide and slip on the ice..

Yeah...I thought it was hilarious in Splinter Cell; when the guy tripped. Of course that was scripted, but perhaps we can create slick surfaces - and make slip animations...or see if the physics will do the work for us.

i "think" the headcrabs from hl1 skidded on ice, i aint too sure though

Caltrops. You'd have to design an animation for an enemy jumping up and down holding one foot.

How about a flubber-type weapon? You could launch it into a room full of enemies, close the door, and listen to it speed up and bounce around inside until it's almost everywhere at once. Then it detonates. It would beat enemies to a pulp, then blow away any enemy nearby that had managed to dodge it.:E

we need a little recorder that when equiped you hit the play button and it yells "NO RELEASE DATE NOOOOOO OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE!!!!!!" then all your enemies fall to their knees and cry while you walk past them

Now that's an excelent idea which could be done. Do you mind if I steal a varyation of this idea? I'll give you credit of course.

Ok check this out, take yer basic minigun design and miltiply that by 3. a shotgun minigun. thats right backpack feed belt and all
or a belt fed medium machine gun with a bipod and a detachable box magazine
......or a fully automatic grenade launcher...400RPM

will the alt fire button "coat" objects with the flubber, so you can throw them around and watch them go crazy bouncing everywhere in confined spaces too? that would be neat :D

bounce your enemies out of the game, the ultimate humiliation basically being turned into a bouncy ball during MP ;)

i think we should have a...

flare gun like the combines have where you fire it in the air and air units com along and do all the damage an airstrike if you will?
