Making a computer

I guess the main thing I would wonder is air flow.
How is the case for cooling.
80mm Front fan? Rear fan?

Other than that it is just features that people look to.
Can't judge a case by it's outside. At least when you are considering how it will work for your system. ;)

Does it include that Powersupply for that price? I guess I'd worry just how stable that PSU is.

It seem's like an okay case, you can find nicer and moded cases thou for like 10$ more,

i think that the ASUS A7N8X and AMD athlon XP 3200/2800 work great but make sure you use the right CPU socket for you're mobo

What about headphones? I am not going to get speakers, so what should I get for headphones? I don't really care if they have a mic attachment. Also what about a sound card?

Athlon XP CPUs and a good nForce2 board would be nice.
Abit or Asus.
That is a very mature platform that performs well and can be had for pretty low cost.
Probably recommend a Athlon XP 3000+ with 400fsb or a 2500+ dektop or moble (if you want to OC) CPU
A lot of people like to get their own coolers for the AthlonXP socket A.

A P4 C "Northwood" platform is also mature and performs a little better but cost more as well.
P4 2.8c is a great CPU. Abit or Asus for boards again.
Again, people like to get their own coolers although the stock cooler isn't half bad.

Of course then there's the A64 system that has tons of performance but is not quite as mature. It is a very solid platform for how new it is. It's doing well and the Nforce3 250 boards are soon to come out.
A64 3000+ is probably the best performance/price for almost any CPU right now. 200$ or so.
MSI neo is a good popular board for socket 754. Asus has some great boards too.
Why would anyone need a different cooler than the stock cooler on a A64 platform? They run so cool and quick. Plus it has Cool&Quiet so when you are idle or just websurfing it downclocks to about 1ghz so it and your room stay cool.

I would add up the cost for CPU/Mobo to determine if you go AXP, P4, or A64...if you want to do it based on cost.
Game Performance would go to A64 hands down.
If you're in the USA, you should really check out Newegg.com or maybe mwave.com

Wait...wtf....

Just becouse its a Nvidea doesnt mean its gonna: Detect ur radeon and fry it :p

i have a HIS 9600XT and it works wonderfully.

Also, should I get PC 2700 DDR RAM or should I go for a higher speed?

You want a Nvidia board over a VIA board...you really do.
What you have there is fine but I would suggest you buy a non-combo that actually has a good solid board/cpu.

I personally don't care for pull-down menus for upgrades etc. It limits my options. I personlly perfer to select the exact part/model I want to use.
For AXP, get a Nvidia or second VIA chipset board. No SIS.
For A64, get Nvidia or Via or SIS.

Ok, but it won't have any problems with an ATI card will it? Like Farcry does lol.

Na, they work really fine, getting a ATI mobo wont make it faster or any thing, if mobos worked like that...ugh :(

Ok, thanks. What about a HD? I was just thinking of getting Western Digital.

ah, fine choice :DD i have a Western digital WD800 (80 gbs) and it works like a charm, only 70$

its sorta slow, it doesnt even have 2 mbs of cache? id look for a better one

NM, I will stick with the above one. Are video card prices suppose to go down soon, I know the new cards were anounced today. Or atleast they were suppose to be...

just for a little extra remark, i really like this case:

http://xoxide.com/xoscb.html

its out of stock, but should have some soon

it has 4 80mm fan holes, one on door, one on back, and two for the front (where harddrive racks are located)

That is a sweet case, looks nice too. Should I get the power supply that comes with it or should I get one off of newegg?

i would always get a diffrent powersupply, so yea, 420 watt should be sufficent

Thats pretty good, i like HIS more for some reson thou, my card is an HIS 9600xt Turbo for 210$ heh

HIS? Is that just a different brand than Saphire? Also how much RAM should I get? Should I get 512 at first and then get anohter 512 stick when I have the money?

Are you on any kind of budget?
Crucial is solid. That model is only Cas Latency of 3 though. Lower is better.
Most are 2.5 and some are 2.
3 is a little high.

I just got a job at the movie theater :)
I only get like $250 a month...but I think my Dad will lend me some money if I tell him I will pay him back.
Sweet, thanks for the link asdf that is nice RAM.

Alright, all I need now is a mobo/cpu, sound card and headphones.

why do you want a processer on it? its really easy to install the proc if you're worried about that, ill search, my friend said he had one.

oh and what type of AMD?

AMD Athlon XP 2600 2800 or 3000?
