If you honestly think Fakefactory's skin pack makes your Half-Life 2 game look better, then you should try other just as awesome "make HL2 look better" methods such as turning off your monitor, or uninstalling the game entirely.

Simply resize every single texture, regardless of size, to 2048x2048, run a couple dozen filters over them, stick in some high-resolution pictures you found on Google (complete with jpeg artifacts!), run a couple dozen more filters over the textures, include a bunch of superfluous extras such as a pointlessly altered soundtrack, run a couple dozen more filters over the textures, steal a bumpmap skin pack from some Japanese guy initially and then later integrate into the mod with permission, run a couple dozen more filters over the textures, give your skin pack a super pretentious name, and finally run about 47 dozen more filters over the textures for good measure. Be sure to completely ruin everything about the game's look while you're doing this. Should you suceed, you will have created a Fakefactory skin pack.

This has been debated before but some of the character skins are improved, some of them really are not improved. But the overall graphics to the game are better.
 
I'm not keen at all. But that's just me. Nice texturing all the same.
 
Those screens are horrid. The black guy looks like he's been embalmed. And the woman next to him looks like she just felt a snake crawl up her anus.
 
The problem with fakefactory for me is that the characters no longer look like they did before. Alyx, Barney, civis all look different and to me different isn't better.
 
You shouldn't make the characters look different they should stay the same, let VALVe do the work with the graphics you should just play.............I'm posting from school =D
 
Character faces and skin are pure failure, pure and simple, while the scenery textures are okay. The posters are more readable. Note more, not finally.

Hi-Res Barney looks lost. And the black resistance fighter? Looked so fugging shiney and smooth. Not like a fuggin resistance fighter at all. Like a Hollywood fighter.

Hmm, they're fighting the Combine with little time,supplies and rations, but the black guy in HR is still able to keep a clean shaving appearance. Cool.

you are an angry person. yet I agree with you somewhat.
 
I think the graphics overall are better, some of the characters look better than again some of them look worse, but i love the little music add-ons to the music to give it an extra flavour. But really you are slagging off a mod that people have worked really hard on to try and make the game better, I would like to see you guys make a mod like that tbh
 
I hate FakeFactorys mod.

Alyx has make up, Barney gets African-American features...the resistance are super shiny....plus facial animations get really messed up.
The textures are far too processed and it really ruins the feel.

I much prefer vanilla HL2.

The facal animations don't get messed up, Its a Skin not a model, as it still has the same bone animations etc.


Actually I've seen causasian people with Barneys nose, Joe Torrie anyone?




With that being said, I would like to move on a more positive note...

Fakefactory feature's some the best cinematic music I've ever heard, it really sends chills down my spine with my power speakers I have ;). I loved the Podride in the Citadel, & when Alyx got captured..that was such sad & moving music :).

It's insanely easy to impress people on FileFront game sites. You could run the Combine metrocop skin through a grayscale filter in MS Paint (A good three seconds work) and thousands upon thousands of people will download it and praise it endlessly because they think the black looks cool. This is mainly because they're just not too bright, if you catch my drift.

What you said is rather opinion than fact.


On a lighter note,
Im pretty sure when a crappy file is put on there, people will flame the author of the file often which results in alot of bans there. They're too strict the admins at filefront...they have a saying "Personal opinions are not endorsed by filefront."
 
Well, I'll just say this: I don't like the skins. Textures are ok. Music, still reserving judgement on.

And unfortunately, it's quite true. Any promise of providing something that "makes the game better," regardless if it fills this criteria aptly (or at all, for that matter), will instantly be hailed as brilliant by hundreds on HL2Files. Read some of the comments you linked to and you'll see just how utterly clueless some of these people really are. They're simply not a breed of people worth defending. Let them live in their own little bubble of ignorance, but don't take any .

And fakefactory is rubbish. The skins look completely different from the style of hl2. They are not improvements on the graphics, but downgrades. Alyx is not a stripper, a futuristic femme fatale, nor a bimbo. Mossman is not a man, eli does not have some disease around his eyes. What is the point of "improvment" when it is so far from the original source material that you can't even recognize some of the people. I have no clue who the bearded man in the armor is supposed to even replace.

But still even with the crappy Character skins. I still like the minor stuff like the sink, the posters(they are more clear to read) Some bumpmaped textures in the environment I think. He's also adding rim-lighting.


I really like the music, Go to the citadel chapter when you go on that podride it will give you goosebumps.
 
I don't understand all the "BLARYHAEHDTGHADTGH FAKEFACTORY!!!!!!" hate on this site, I mean, Jesus, it's just a mod, it's not worth calling the maker a "Hack" and everyone who likes his mod an "utterly clueless breed of people not worth defending." All you have to do is not download the damn thing, not insult everyone associated with it.

God, some of you people are worse than those CS:S Whiners who foam at the mouth at any little change Valve makes to the game......

(Also, not everyone on the Filefront Community is not "People Easily Pleased" Take me for example, I go there under a different name, and I know stupid jobs when I see them, like that craptastic Substance mod which half-assedly combines Metal Gear Solid with Half Life and throws a bunch of random new enemies all over the places in a messy manner.

And no, a Painted-Black CP would not make me impressed either...)
