I'm more of a Celtic fan myself (yeah I know, they're not English Premier League like the rest of the teams mentioned). But it's damn hard being a fan of any European team when your here in the states just because the only way to actually watch a game is by subscribing to extra channels through our cable or dish providers.

Did get to see the game a few years back where Celtic was one of the first teams in a long ass time to finally beat Manchester in Old Trafford though. That was a treat.

the scottish league is SO bad.

Yeah, but we take what we can get here, and the Celtic / Rangers matches are usually one of the few matches that gets Fox Sports Net's attention. Plus, I don't know if you've ever seen an MLS match from the states here, but they're infinitely worse. I've watched high school games that had better passing.

really, why dont FOX make a deal with sky?

i thought sky and fox were tv partners.....

We get Manchester and Arsenal matches too, I hate to jump on the bandwagon though.

remember keano lost it in the tunnel @ highbury? badass, i have the unedited version on my hd, its hilarious.

Any chance you could send that to me - i have a gmail account... Also back on topic - the whole takeover could be interesting and could be much needed, last few seasons have been a shambles.

The appetite is gone and Ferguson probably should have left when he planned to originally, several seasons ago! We need transfer funds and a turn-about of form (and a bit of luck to prevent injuries) so we shall see what happens!

They say Ferguson will now keep his job but I dunno - thought that he was a certainty to go if the takeover went ahead...

My guess is he's as good as gone.

For example, when Glazer took over the Tampa Bay Bucaneers he fired a coach (Tony Dungy) that had consistently had his team in the playoffs or the upper half of the league. Just couldn't make it to the title game so Glazer fired him. Brought in Jon Gruden, and won the title in the first year (with the team Dungy had assembled). They've been bottom half of the league ever since.

heh, if those guys didn't where pads they'd be practically dead by now. Most American football players have a tough enough time living past their 50s and 60s these days as it is just from injury related problems after their careers are over. Just a month or two ago their was an Arena Football player that was killed from being tackled and getting hit in the back as he was going down, and that's with all the pads.
Pffft - check out RUGBY players. Now they're f*cking hardcore. No pads for those guys, just plenty of broken bones, noses and cauliflower ears.
You Yankee wimps!

Yeah, those guys are ****ing nuts. But it's also a different style game, American football is played at a much faster pace since there's stopages between plays and whatnot. Might be tough to understand, but I've known guys that played both and they said Football was much rougher on them. IIRC though, here in the states at least, among people 18 and under, traditional football (soccer here) is responsible for the largest number of sports related injuries.

It's actually the number one ranked sport in participation, they just can't draw media attention to it for the life of em. No one wants to watch it.

Depends on where you go though. Texas for instance isn't too keen on it. American football is a religion to most of them down there. Some of the towns there take their high school games more seriously than most of you take professional soccer. The amount of pressure they put on their kids to win state titles and whatnot is mind-boggling.

I hear it's seen as more of a teenage girls game, and judging by some of the bloody players, I guess they got that right. But then again, baseball just looks like girls rounders sometimes! :P

I enjoy the local football, I support Burton Albion (Conference, came up from non-league and just bought a big arse stadium) and Derby County (The Rams!). Derby made it to the play-offs of the Championship so there's an exciting few weeks ahead!

Normally though, I just prefer rugby union. My girlfriend is an avid follower, especially of her local side, Munster. I end up watching those games and supporting Ireland whenever needed. It just comes off as a much tougher game, and my regional side (Leicester Tigers) are actually some sort of good so it's fun to watch :)

intresting...

its weird that soccer is one of the biggest games in the world and in america its barely watched , LOL

I admit, baseball is a little hard to watch if you don't know much about it. It seems really simple and boring at first, but once you really get deep into the strategy of it, it's a lot of fun to watch. A great excuse to go get drunk in the stands and heckle the opposing team for 3 hours too.

Yeah, I can't figure out why it won't catch on. I guess it's one of those games though where if you didn't grow up watching it and if you don't really have a good grasp on the strategies than it can be hard to watch since there isn't as much constant scoring as the other major sports people watch here. And most people here just never give it a chance to figure it out.

Oh, that definately sounds like some football (soccer) games we have. Millwall riots are really something (e)special(ly scary).

Oh, here's another game that I love to bits: Aussie rules football. Rugby on crack and speed! Brilliant!

(My favourite game ever, in case anybody is wondering, is curling.)

Yeah, gotta admit, the US has been doing better in the national scene in more recent years. At least a lot better than people expect of us. Our last run in the World Cup was quite a surprise. It's hard to keep our superstar talent here though since they can just go to Europe and make a ton of more cash.

Freddie Adu is freakin insane though. Man that kid is good. He signed to an MLS team when he was just 14. He was a regular starter and made the MLS all-star team when he was just 15. Just absolutely amazing ball control, vision, and accuracy for someone his age. And when the 2006 World Cup comes around he'll no doubt be a key role at just 17 years old.

i cant wait till the world cup :D

gotta wait a year tho, and its in germany

Yeah, same here. One of the few times we get to watch consistently good football here. Plus it's a little closer than Japan for us so the time difference isnt' gonna kill me. Had to stay up til 2-5 in the morning just to catch a game last time around.

Meh, Glazer clearly doesn't give a feck about the "soul" of the team. Capitalism at it's worse. But hey, he won't make much money if he tries to stifle the team's following- if he wants to run it purely as company, he'll have to wise up, as will the people convinced the club will die- in a financial sense, that is. Although I doubt that the £200m debt he'd dropped on 'em will be much good.

Not that I care. I'm Cumbrian.

CARL-ISLE UN-IT-ED! Dum, dum, dum dum dum dum...

i wanted united to sign carvalho (sp?) after Euro tourny and they missed the chance - imagine the defence...Now if only we could get a semi-decent goalie as well...And if our 800 strikers could net one between them once in a while :) / :(

What's wrong with Scotland like?

EDIT: By the way, Malcom Glazer pledges a 20 million transfer budget per season. Does he really think that will compete with Chelsea and Arsenal?

20 Million... isn't that rather low? To get a world class player, Man U are going to have to sell... lets hope the yank doesn't mean Dollars ! :D Not that im a fan anyway...

Newcastle Utd :D although we've had a piss poor season :(

Well, he doesn't really have a clue about English football. Man Utd need a lot of sorting out in order to beat Arsenal and Chelsea. It's more than 20 million worth this season.

And Newcastle United are no longer the top club in the North East. Come on the Boro.

Ah we'll be back pwning yo' ass. Got Shearer lined up as coach and then Manager in the future, so hello top of the table for abit (until Shearer decides to manage England, then we're screwed again)...
