Marriage

Being anti-gay marriage is just a sign of being shortminded, because there is no real argument against it, so grow up and let people make their own decisions who they want to share their lives with.

Well said.

The bond of marraige is a cultural custom and no one religion can claim ownership--although they try. Pharoahs had queens--they weren't christian! People get married every day without any religious ceremony, but you must have a civil license for government to recognize a religious ceremony. The civil union has greater definiton since the religious one is just a 5-45 minute performance.

Marraige has nothing to do with love or procreation. People do any of those without the presence of others and loveless marraiges were standard in past generations (when women had less hope of surviving on their own in society, and lacked the same rights as man). Growing up I had friends, a large Catholic family. The parents refused to allow their children to go to public schools--had to be catholic schools--very "devout". Their marraige was loveless--they practically hated eachother. One would enter the room and the other would leave. In five years I saw them speak to eachother once. That IS a blessed, religious union. HOwever it is a shitty marraige that does a number on their children. At least one daughter entered a marraige which she was miserable in from day one.

If a religion will not perform their "magic" little ceremony it shouldn't mean that it can't be recognized by civil law. After all, most states recognize common law wives without ceremony or license.

The problem is there is two different types of marriage. One is Civil, which you do at a registrar and involves the legal side. The other is religious, and it depends on the religion, I think the "christian version" is called marriage, but this term has been applied to all religions, someone correct me if this is wrong.

In Civil terms, I think it is wrong to deny Gay couples the same rights as heterosexual couples. Any two adults should be allowed to call themselves a couple in the eyes of the law if they want, perhaps we might even need three or more marriages in civil terms. (this could start a flame war :) ).

Ill come back to that. Religious marriage, in a church or mosque or whatever, is up to the religious community itself, its an optional society to join, so they should be free to set their own rules. If you don't like them don't sign up, nobody has a right to be a Christian. Now I'm an athiest and that is purely a personal view, people who (say they) are Christians might have a different viewpoint, but I would say you arent, your different, why not ask your own god how you should consummate your love, and follow his directions.. but thats another debate.

Now back to the three plus argument, Firstly, i am not in this category, i only want one partner. But this sort of thing is personal. Before I get death threats, I think I must reiterate the difference between Religious "marriages" and Civil ones. I am not in any way trying to tell Christians they are wrong, but they should not point at other people and tell them what they are doing is wrong, and morally unjust, its between consenting adults, thus isn't their business (again, this is my athiest viewpoint, it is easy to say "God says that is wrong, thus it is my duty to correct them", that is also a valid viewpoint, another debate :) ). Now currently you don't need to have Legislation, because this is not enough people in this catergory, they can set up their own personal contracts.

Sooo, after that, I belive that marriage in the Civil sense is the legal recognition of partnership, and in the religious sense is Consummation of love in the eyes of a God. I believe in the Civil sense everyone should be allowed equal rights, and in the Religious sense it is up to the Religions themselves, the polygamy point was just an extreme situation to state my viewpoint more clearly :)

wtf is wrong with gay marriage, wtf why do you guys care?

lol its all kind of funny if you ask me, why go out of your way to speak out against gay people getting some crappy official paper signed ruining your life forever

seriously tho imo religious in a legal sense should be fine for gays.. i dont see why not

lol, i know i am going to be flamed for this, but this is the way I have always thought of it... and remember, it does sound very childinsh, but simple.

I think that homosexual marriages should not be allowed... why?

Because of the simple (yet childish)... This fits there, for a purpose. If you know anything, you will get what I'm saying :)
