Mass Effect?

**** yes.
I got it for $50 and still didn't feel cheated.
I love the game.

Get it.

I picked it up for $25 not too long ago. It can be cumbersome and some parts are undercooked, but for that cheap a price it would be a total shame to give it a miss. I have to admit I didn't instantly fall in love with it, as my expectations were more KOTOR-flavored. But once I got into its groove, I was completely carried away with it. The acting, setting, and universe are wonderful, and the story is solid, well-told sci-fi space opera.

I guess your enjoyment of it can depend on how much you appreciate narrative in proportion to the actual game. I picked up Mass Effect and Fallout 3 at the same time. While Fallout took all my attention in the beginning, I grew tired of its shallow, disappointing dialogue and characters, and haven't since picked it up in ages. Conversely, Mass Effect took some getting used to, but it had a more enduring connection.

I'd give it a shot at 20...if my comp could run it....

EDIT: is there a demo out there?

Especially with that price you'd have to be an enemy of entertainment not to get it. It has my recommendations for sure.

Yes, no question. I paid full whack when it came out and I felt it was worth it. for 20 dollars you can't go wrong.

Acepilot, I used that website and I purchased Mass Effect because it said my laptop could run it, but it misread the graphics card as a higher graphics card and now I can't play it :(

Mass Effect is a fantastic game. I sold mine, but only after completing it 5-10 times with all the different classes/genders/morality extremes. Epic storyline. $20 is more than worth it.

My heart goes out to you.

Laptops don't work very well with it, since most laptops have onboard, and onboard cards are really odd.
My laptop can play Warhammer Online fine, but the moment it tries to play Medieval 2: TW it runs like shite.

Alright, I bought this bitch. Hopefully will be ready when I get back from work tomorrow. It's third person right?

That it is. I will say up front that it's very useful to max out on the persuasion skill, but only stick with one (charm or intimidate) per file. The game offers New Game+ in which you start off the game with all of the equipment/XP from when you ended it the first time and you probably don't want to waste an entire 12 skill points on the opposite persuasion extreme. Just do that on another file if you want to be an evil bastard.

Failed the canirunit test. Great site by the way. I'll be picking up this one when I upgrade. (whenever that happens...)

At that price? Most certainly.

One of the best games last year. Worth it 100%

Intel graphics chips will do that.

"Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction. I am beyond your comprehension. "

Good quote, loved that red bastard.

ME is a very good game, just don't treat it as you would a classic aRPeeGee, since there are few choices that come around and alter the world significantly, the dialogue system is too basic (although enjoyable) and the gameplay could've been improved.

The writing, setting, story, art direction, character development and sheer fun are awesome, even though it's a standard Bioware story.

Wow, that website says I can play Crysis :{D

*downloads demo*

i really hate those canirunittest, people expect miracles when it says they can run it and soon they find out they have horrible performance, but i guess thats what the test is for....right....to see if you can "run" it.

20 bucks...yeah. It's far from perfect, but worth the money. Also play as the woman rather than the man, because she does better vocal work, plus Lesbians

Alright, I am super pissed. After that extremely long Download ME won't even launch, every time I get an error that says ME has stopped working.

I've read several threads, followed the specific instructions given by Steam for this problem, tried to run as administrator, tried to launch through the Steam Common Folders, everything, still will not launch.
My computer can easily run this game.

I am really pissed if this won't work and I cannot get a refund for the money I spent. Ridiculous.

Looks like you're going to have to go through a long and slow painful death known as 'contacting technical support'.

Yes, I tried that with both Steam and EA and got zero response within the first 12 hours. Eventually my thread on the steam powered forums gained attention, and after looking through numerous threads I eventually found a solution someone suggested.

Does the non-Steam PC version(since it isn't on Steam in the UK) still have horrid DRM?

I really want to play it but the DRM is a deal killer. "Hey, let's slap intrusive programs onto our games that punish legit users and treat them like suspected criminals! I'm sure that will discourage piracy..."

I'm not sure, but probably yes. I can tell you I, and a lot of other people with Vista had a very hard time getting the game to launch without fiddling through files for a few hours trying to figure out the problem.

I'm afraid it does. I bought it in the UK and it has a 3 activation Securom limit on it. Also there is no revoke tool like Spore despite Mass Effect being older. I already used up all 3 of mine apparently, the game doesn't tell you how many you got left. On my count i only activated twice yet when i contacted EA they insisted i activated 8 times despite me protesting that the game only allows 3 activations so that's impossible. The best they would offer was to allow me to purchase a new key at above retail price. Thankfully the pirating community had a patch to fix it. Never believe EA when they claim that you can simply call up to get more activations it's a load of BS.
On the plus side it's a great game. Shame they still haven't fixed some of the game breaking bugs like missing textures or low res characters.

Mass Effect was so "meh" that I couldnt even "meh" hard enough to describe it. I played it only a few months ago, and I can't remember anything about it. None of the characters, only the basic plot arc (although I cant even remember the name of the overarching enemy). The gameplay was extremely lackluster too, I found myself quite bored of it half way in. I'm surprised I even finished it to be honest. I remember beating the game, and immediately going on to hl2.net as soon as it closed to the desktop and being more entertained here than I was for the past hour.

I really, really dont understand how it gets so much praise. I think people's standards have dropped.

I could be wrong, but while playing this, I felt the gameplay would be a lot more fun/enveloping if you had the option of first person during combat/exploration, but the dialogue still remained in 3rd.
