After last week's low and medium resolution versions, an updated high quality version of the E3 2003 trailer for Doom 3 is now available for download. Again there are no new footage in this movie, but it offers a much better resolution than the previous version.

the story seems like a ripoff of HL's......except its demons instead of aliens.......

Nah, its HL that ripped Doom... doom was out first :)
 
Yeah doom3 seems to be a rerun of the doom2 story but mainly on mars, not that there really was much of a doom 2 story though.
 
Come on you guys know Doom 3 is going to kick butt. I bet it even has a good storyline. Old FPS can't have storylines. Not enought technology, but now they can.

What the heck do you need tech for?... you can tell a story on doom 1 if they bothered to put one in, but they dident

Doom3 actually tells the story from the orginal Doom from another point of view. In the readme.txt of the first Doom, it is explained that you're a spacemarine on Phobos when all hell breaks lose. Doom3 takes place in the same time frame, but this time you're a marine on Mars.

Doom2 takes place after the events of Doom1 and Doom3.
 
Yea.. just finshed downloading, same trailer but only slightly Hi res.. wow >_> Real wow.
 
Carmack already stated that the storyline for Doom 3 will be relatively simple. It would be tough to have many plot twists the way the story is set up.

If any of you played System Shock 1 back in 1995, you would know that old games CAN have story lines and be more complex, but like always, all innovative games get overlooked in favor of some crap, ala Doom 2.

As for the trailer, very nice, but I hate new voice over by that guy, sounds too much like dude who does movie trailers. Woman voice was better.
 
Yay, it’s the old voice over once again! Good trailer, but man, I want to see more of gameplay footage! I guess ID doesn’t want to hype Doom III yet.

and i found a program that plays doom and doom2 on windows XP.... u need the original WAD file, tho.... do a google searh on jDoom if you want to enjoy sprite killing goodness
 
Doom3's storyline is as adequate as can be.
Anyone who played and loved Doom back in the day will feel the same.

Also:
Doom 2 crap? Wtf, it was possibly even better than the original game!
Sure, System Shock was great as well and definately overlooked, but still...
 
after seeing the trailer again in hi-res... it's making me wanna buy it less and less... i dunno if it's gonna be fun as hell, or scary as hell.... GIVE US A DEMO, iD!!

Maybe I was a little harsh, but still, it’s just funny to me to see good games die like that. I guess that’s true with everything, even with TV shows. Crap like Bachelor is made everyday, but brilliant shows like Family Guy get canceled. Same thing happened with System Shock 2, it got overlooked in favor of another Quake clone. It seems, to survive in this world, you need to make everything to the lowest comment denominator. :/

The trailer is the exact same thing as the one shown at E3, just at higher res, it's quite a large download too. Where is the new trailer? I heard a new one was coming out soon.
 
Í have something called zdoom wich is doom2 with the ability to jump and look up and down etc... Im not sure where to find it... Try the internet :):) it started making funny errorsafter some time though I dont know how I guess its been hacked too much by programmers that didn't feel like testing it on hardware that wasnt out yet ;)

Storylines in games like Doom are like a storylines in pornos. They're expected to be there, but they're not all that important.

yeah, who the hell played doom for the storyline? The story is you're one guy and you have to beat hell. thats like awesome. its the greatest storyline ever. because it frankly makes for the most gore.

doom3 should be great.

Technology is not a prerequisite for good storytelling/plot in video or computer games. I'm sure developers would agree.
 
I wonder how much Valve is paying to keep the Half-Life 2 demo vid on the featured movie part of FilePlanet.
 
Yeah, lets all rip on Doom for it's lack of story... after all, there were TONS of FPS with great storylines in 1993. :angry:
 
I think kshreck was kidding when he said not enough technology you guys >_> course if he wasn't I worry for him, but nevertheless.

and again, I think Doom's lack of storyline was what made it so great. It was just a great gothic/futuristic shooter with a lot of basic substance in the chewy but melted center. Hell on mars, its great. I'm looking forward to doom3 a lot, I really wanna fight demons again. I just hope there won't be too muchtalking. Ah yes, and I hope for clasic weapons to be there with new ones. Doom wouldn't be doom without a chaingun.

im not ripping on doom so much as doom3


you would figure by 2004 they could come up with a differant storyline........


omgs teh secret lab with teh science and stuff. teh experiment goes terribly wrong and teh demons are unleashed......you are john carmack teh uber-commando-nerd...

i always knew the story would suck....and this confirms it.....

hopefully they will convey the story in cool ways though.

It seems you haven't read the new storyline yet. The remains of a lost civilization are hidden underneath the surface to Mars. The former citizens of this civilization used a mystical weapon called the Soulcube to counter a previous invasion of demons. Unfortunately the aliens stole the Soulcube and it's your task to retrieve the weapon by entering Hell.

Of course, whether you like or don't like the new storyline depends on your opinion, but it's definitly a different storyline.

I like the high resolution of the vid. I could now clearly spot some humans inside the monorail train.

On a related note, today (December 10) it's precisely 10 years ago that the Doom shareware got released. Happy birthday, Doom! :bounce:
 
Doom 3 looks good, the single player should be a eye poping gore fest of fun, and stuff, storyline is not ALL importent for this game, I think Im more looking forward to playing this with 5.1 sound in the dark and pissing myself from fright, rather then haveing a storyline, I got hl2 for that, both games are going to rock in there own way
