It's certainly a possibility that headcrabs can attach to other animals. An elephant might be stretching it though, unless headcrabs don't necessarily have to attach to a head (which I believe they don't). Otherwise, there's no headcrab big enough to get its maw around an elephant's head.

You know what I've always loved the idea of? It's not a terrestrial animal, but I think a headcrabbed bullsquid would be awesome.

It would be very cool if a fast headcrab would attach itself to a chimp, it would be a much better fast zombie and fun to fight, especially in the forrest where they could climb trees.

Actually you only hear rats and flies in HL2 and the only birds are seagulls and crows

EDIT: A cool headcrabbed animal would probably be a dog, cat or ape, man I'd love to have my cat headcrabbed it'd be like a zombie cat "Mmmmmmmmmeeeeeeooooooooowwwwwwwww!" Imagine what they would look like as Gonarchs or Gonomes

headcrabs takecontrol ofthe nervous system, not the brain, so yeah it doesnt have to go to the head, it just likes to slowly devour the face I think. Imagine a headcrabbed lion. that would be the real reason no one goes to ravenholm of course about 3 in 5 fingers extend into claws as well, so imagine all these quadroped animals having to walk on hugeassed zombie claws.. also headcrabs would have had to live on some kinda food on xen, so they probably would have had to headcrab a vort at some stage... awesome! :O

Actually I've been wondering about Earth wildlife in HL2 for a while. Did Xen wildlife rape our ecosystem or what? Then again City17 isn't exactly the most habitable place for wildlife so there might still be animals out there. I suppose we'll have a lot more evidence in Epi2, being set in a forest/outdoors and all. Its not something valve would overlook one way or the other I think.
