While reading the Half Life 2 interviews posted on this site, it has come to my attention that there has been a issue discussed about the problem of giving, or taking, a NPC weapon. My suggestion is that the player should be able to right-click (or another possible button) when close to a friendly NPC and aiming at his/her torso or his/her weapon (holstered or in-hand) should let the player make him/her drop his/her weapon (or exchange weapons with the player, either way works).
This may not be the best idea, but I am a very creative person and I am glad to make any suggestions to improve what should be my favourite game when it comes out whenever. I am not a die-hard fan of this game as I have never played HL1 before, but I am very interested in the ideas of Valve and others working on Half Life 2, and would love to be a part of it.
My real name is Ravi Gupta, and I am a fifteen year old attending school in Toronto, Canada, and I would sincerely hope you take me seriously, not taking any factors into account other than my creativity, interest, and my academic and extracurricular achievements. In grade 10 I have an average of 86%, was on my school basketball team for grade 8 (trying for senior, not junior now), have 127 hours of community service (soon to be 167 hrs) and have an immortal interest in the world of computer and videogames; especially in Valve games and Half Life 2.

I'm having trouble understanding what the main purpose of this thread is. You first talk about an element of the Half-Life 2 gameplay, then go on to compose a mini-CV for applying to Valve themselves... could you clarify what this is all about?

maybe he thinks hl2.net is associated w/ valve?

odd nonetheless..

Very odd post, I can't make heads or tails of it. Looks like applying for a job, as you've said, probably thinks we're the official Valve forums.. Which is kinda cool eh :D

Well, Valve can't hire you. You're under 18, and you live in Canada. Well, they cna hire somone under 18, but that isn't very likley. Your Community service and sports aren't of huge importance in this industry, nor is the grade you are getting in 10th grade.

Now if you do want to get into the industry someday, I suggest learning about programming and/or 2D/3D art and/or level design. Join a mod, or jsut do work on your own, and then goto college and gradute. Once you have a degree and an impressive portfolio, then apply to companies.

All that except degree's and stuff, no real point in that, companies want real world experience over a piece of paper which most of the time you'd get in the end simply for turning up. They want to know you can do the job and see proof. But yeah do the rest of it

* course if you want to become a programmer, then you would be harming yourself not going to college or Uni, but thats just programming. With the art side of things you can learn more in a week surrounded by pro's in a real company than you can in five years at a college surrounded by people who know as much as you.

I think he just doesn't want us to think any less of him or his ideas for being 15.

If it'sany help curry probably half the people here are 15 or under.

..I'm 9 :)

Anyhow, this is indeed a really weird topic..

I'm 15.

..actually, I was kidding. If I met a 9 year old who could type in a coherent, proper way, I'd be scared. I'm 17, lol

There is already a good weapon system in HL2. Don't ask me how I know this because I am not allowed to say it. (Well, I bet you know what it is now...) ;)

Edit: And yes, this thread is really messed up, that guy musta been drinking. He starts giving us his life story, and I'm like, okayyy...

Vegeta, stop pushing your luck, the rules don't give you a right to mention parts of the stolen files in every single post you make, you need to realise not everyone wants to know whats in it.

We know you have them, we know your awfully proud of yourself so knock it off all ready, its bad enough your getting away with it in the other thread, keep it in there if you must go on about it.

LOL!
so I was playing the beta the other day and I thought..

j/k

i think they should make it where, you press a button and a little menu comes up with commands for your allies... with weapon options and such... nothing complicated, but eh something. or maybe hotkeys... like the f1-12 or something.

is this considered on topic? is there a topic? this is the new topic? let's discuss ideas that we'd like for th--
:x *dies*

I trust valve got the perfect solution for that.. They'll have a nifty and handy system and no elaborate one that requires a separate manual plus private lessons..

They could keep the half life 1 weapon system as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure it will be improved in comparison, so that too will be cool.

If you think this is a good place to apply for a job, I'm sorry, but I don't think you're ever going to get one. :burp:

I wish there was a job position at Valve where I could just stand around and say, "yes, the player should right click the mouse to do this!" I could do that! I'd move to from Australia to the US in a second!

HAHAHAHA!!! :) I was trying to mess with peoples' minds. My friend was over and he told me to do something stupid and mess with peoples' so i did. Sorry if i did, and probably did waste your valuable time.
