Meet the Spartans beat both Cloverfield and Rambo at the box office.

well it's not like any of them are cinematic masterpieces
 
meh, it's not like these parody movies have ever been any good ..they rely on other movies for laughs ..which is the reason people go see it. I remember a horror movie from the 80's that was just a collection of clips from other horror movies ..it did better at the box office than the horror movies featured in the film ..that says something about the general film going public
 
Some spoofs can be excellent and intelligent (Spaceballs comes to mind), but then you have the piles of shit that Friedberg and Seltzer keep making which rely on pop and sex humor(Date Movie, Epic Movie).
 
spaceballs was only good in that it had rick moranis, mel brooks and john candy ..otherwise it's mediocre

but yes Mel Brooks pioneered the pardoy film (young frankenstein, blazing saddles, history of the world) ..but he didnt lift whole scenes from other movies

What I'm saying is, there are good spoofs and bad spoofs. Some are actually worth seeing, while most (like this one) are absolute shit.

I never heard of this "Meet the Spartans", and didn't know that Rambo was still playing.

It sucks like those movies actually do well, because it means we'll have to see more of them. The humor is ridiculously dire and just downright awful. Here's the formula:

Pop culture icon #1: Donald Trump
Pop culture icon #2: Spiderman

*fade in* Spiderman is suspended from a 10 story building, and Donald spots his web line
Donald: "Spidey you're fired"
*Donald cuts Spiderman's web line*
*Spiderman falls*

LOL? what a zany, relevant, and humorous pop culture reference!

And that's somehow funny? Yes, we get it, Donald's line was "you're fired" in his show The Apprentice, and we also get that the Spiderman movies were quite popular the last few years. It's not humor, it's just taking things that happened and making them interact in an entirely stupid scenario, no juxtoposition is used whatsoever in "Meet the Spartans", the characters are just THERE. Comedy written hundreds of years ago is more funny and topically relevant.

It's awful, really. And I didn't even consider Scary Movie 1/2 to be bad. I honestly get a little ill imagining the mouth breathing pissants paying $8 per ticket and laughing for no apparent reason the entire way through.

god damn, ****ing seriously. Those shows and reality television single handedly caused me to stop watching tv. Sometimes I'll turn it on to see what's going on but I'm bombarded by hordes of CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: New york, CSI: Special Victims unit, Law & Order, Law & Order: CSI: Miami, Generic Hospital Show #1, Generic Hospital Show #2, and WHY ARE THERE SO MANY ****ING CRIME DRAMA SHOWS!?!?!

They aren't even ****ing original! There's no ****ing mystery! It's not like they present all the evidence to us and then the audience is like, "how can that make sense!" and then they show us how and we're all impressed. They show us a dead body, and then step by step uncover how it happened, and then in the end the kid screams, "I KILLED MY MOM! Not him!" and dun dun dun, the world just flipped mother ****ing upside! omg what an awesome ****ing twist, who the **** could have seen that coming?!

I desire to fire bomb these shows head quarters.

haha, terrible. My brother had to work on this film. He obviously knows how shitty the movie is, he told me the producers are obsolute idiots.

My brother is simply a special effects artist/make up artist, and the producer came in one day and asked them to write down jokes if they thought of any.... O_O that's not their friggin job, you should have that done already!

Anyways, the humor is terrible, the producer would say things like "Yeah, I think it would be really funny if like, Paris Hilton farted, huhuhuh"..... I guess he's a really old creepy guy too.
 
Wait, after some looking, it beat the second week of Cloverfield....that's not uncommon. Granted, one movie sucks dick, it's more likely to receive the high school crowd, since it requires no thought process to watch.

I'm not surprised, anymore.
 
I just saw that There will be blood is out too, and you people are upset that rambo and cloverfield are grossing less then meet the Spartans.
