How about a thread where members put down their backgrounds and aspiration/s or perhaps an interest (plus home/phone address if I must play the "weirdo" card). Whether you're an engineer, an academic (yeah right), a student, unemployed, etc. So, I, for example, am a high-school student with interests lying in math/puzzles to be very vague about it. Or were those baking/activism? :cat:

The cat does not know, but it does enjoy baking anyhow.

Junior in High School, 16 years old. Currently attending Kaiser High School.

For about 15 years of my life I was a stay at home video game loser-****. Yeah, I did the whole "come straight home after school and lock myself in my room playing games" thing. You couldn't make me go outside and do something unless I was being forced to do so.

Was always interested in web design, and actually pursued it from around 8-11 years old. Was good fun, and I got to exercise my graphics muscles. Wanted to make my pages more dynamic, so at 11 I taught myself PHP. After a brief stint of being interested in animation, I turned my attention to electronics.

From 11-14 I spent most of my time at home playing video games and working on small electronics projects here and there. I was actually pretty proud of how much I had taught myself about electronics. My lack of mathematical prowess eventually smacked me in the face, and electronics soon turned to drudgery.

My sophomore year in high school I took computer programming as an elective. The teacher noticed that I was doing well, and after a week or two in the course, she moved me up to AP Computer Science. Scored a 4 on the test, which really made me feel good.

Now i'm trying to get away from all that shit and be more social. My interests, currently, are motorbikes, the drums (played since I was about 6), and... Uh... That's about it.

These days I actually dread going home. I avoid the place at all costs.

I have no clue as to what I want to do for a living, but judging from how my life's gone so far, it'll probably be programming related.

19 year old unemployed yet developing artist, making a portfolio to submit to an art academy. I completed high school in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but seek further education in Leipzig, Germany. I came to UAE 11 years ago from Ukraine, never to return there for the whole time.
In my spare time, I like playing strategies and shoot-em-ups, reading, drawing and, what has now become routine, knitting.

Hmm, our family visited Dubai last summer. We considered buying a place there, but the plans to do so eventually fell through. I have never before seen as many police officers as I did there.

BTW, I like, from doing a little exploring on your site, "The Earth and the Sky" quite a bit as well as the "Mario Bag."

I'm 16. I'm in my final year of High School. I've already got 2 Units of my required 10 Unit HSC done, Band 6. (Highest grade ranking). Another 11 Units to do this year...

I attend North Sydney Boys High School.

Working towards a job in the field of Law or Media/Communications.

No real interest as of yet in partying, drugs, getting drunk, etc. Maybe later. I wish I was more social but I always feel like a sort of burden when I go out with friends. :/

22 years old, middle-class background: one parent a teacher the other a social worker.

Studying Biotechnology. Hoping to do research in plant science and maybe save all your sorry ungrateful asses from starvation in 20 years time. Unless someone manages it first, then I'll just bioengineer triffids instead.

Don't buy a place here. Seriously. The property that you can buy will cost you a few million dirhams, and with there being so many new places available, and so little buyers, the cost will be likely to fall. People who buy flats here are usually looking to re-sell them, not to live in them. Most cheaper places are usually rented here.
And thanks. :E

All right, I'm 25 years old and live in Pennsylvania. I used to be a 98G Chinese linguist in the army until 2002, and now I'm in my final semester at Kutztown University studying fine arts and the German language.

I have no desire to be a studio artist, so I've been learning graphic design and digital illustration on my own for a few years. I'd like to work in that sort of field some day, or maybe study more with languages.

I enjoy playing the piano and eating pickled cabbage. Dinosaurs are sweet and Eek the Cat is my favorite cartoon. And I run a website called The Koopatorivm.

20 years old, living at home, unemployed. Single(ish). You know what I'm talkin' about, that-one-person-who-knows-what-I'm-talking-about ;)

Going back to college for a Computer Systems Technician degree, then working as a net- or sys-admin at some random company. Take classes to learn musical composition and theory, in addition to some bass or singing lessons. Move to Toronto or London.
Short-term goals: Smoke some weed, have some sex (maybe), enjoy the holidays with friends, receive and give gifts, play lots of TF2, spend an ungodly amount of time on MSN.

Surely the irony is the massive picture of the lockdown on telling people about your personal life further up the page?

Phobie:

19 years old, university student.

Just tried to write shit about myself but gave up. So there, have ONE sentence.

17 years old, Senior in High School, living in northern Michigan.

I've grown up mainly with my mom. My parents were divorced when I was three. I still see my Dad on a regular basis, but, since he lives so far away, he rarely has any impact on my life whatsoever. Really sucks not having a father figure in my life. I've always been in a low-income situation; it's quite a contrast from my millionaire father (srsly). I'm not really bothered by it, only when I see my friends' houses (I'm friends with all the upper-class people). They don't have more stuff than me, it's actually quite the other way around. That's mainly because of my wonderful mother who would really do anything for me. I know that's a parents job, but she really does a spectacular job, over and above from what I see of other parents. I really do consider myself lucky to have such a loving parent.

I'm the nerdy type. Sometimes I'd rather just come home and veg out of the computer until I get tired (which often happens during the week). The weekends are the complete opposite, though, as it's rare for me to be home for more than six hours throughout the entire weekend.

As more aspirations, I really have no idea. There are many fields I could be interested in. I've recently realized that, if I had a choice, I would not like to go to college right away. I will be, though, one way or another. Just the pressure of choosing the college, what's going to happen with my friends and my (small) family... what will happen with my mom? She's lonely as **** right now... what the hell is she going to do all alone? All these things just weigh on me all the time. I will be going to college with a few friends come this fall, though. My parents wouldn't allow otherwise, which I kind of thank them for.

Photography, writing, being a techie at an office... all fields that interest me. I just hate thinking about choosing something that I will be doing for a very long time. Will it get old after awhile? Do I really want to make a career out of something I truly enjoy thus causing me to hate it? What about the job situation? Income? Money? Benefits? ****.

Who needs a blog when you have HL2.net?

I don't even know how to describe my background without making it seem like a big issue, it's too goddamn complicated. So I won't bother.
I'm 22 and I want to live the best life I can. I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet - I thought I could achieve that by getting a great job, climbing the ladder and becoming rich and successful. Ain't all it's cracked up to be though, it often brings more misery than it cures.
After my recent motorbike accident, I'm more concerned about experiencing all the amazing things life has to offer. Life's too short to get tied down to a career so early, I'm going to get my shit together and go out there and see what the world has in store for me. I'd love to tour the world by bike. And live in all sorts of different places around the globe.
The end of the day I don't just want to be another cog in the big ****ing drab machine of society. What a depressing thought. I bet people were happier when they had to struggle every day just to catch dinner, at least it wouldn't have been dull and repetitive.
In the short term though, I just want to be able to walk again and get back to work. Seems life everyone else's life is moving on while mine is stuck in freeze-frame, it's hard to keep everything together under the circumstances.

I'm 14 and live in LA county. I'm a freshman student who slacks off and gets average grades since I don't do mah homework. I hate math. I aspire to be a pilot for the Air Force, serve some time and then be a Passenger Plane pilot. Maybe hook up with some cabin attendants.
I'm eating a burrito right now.
