Or, maybe some people dress like that because they think it looks cool. Just maybe.

If you think its cool to pretend to be emotionally scarred, then is it even worse.

So you are now the god of fashion? What people should wear now is not a matter of differing opinion, but instead defined by you?

The thing is, I know a lot of people who dress emo/goth style, to differing degrees. Because they like the style, that's how they like to dress. Whether they look good or not is another matter; but it's their lookout.

Despite all this, I don't know anyone at all who

- hates their life and wants to die
- claims to hate their life and want to die
- has emotional problems
- needs mental help
- has anything at all really wrong with them.

I think it's silly to generalise people just by what they wear.

If she looks like one then she is. That is all there is to being goth. You look like shit on the outside to hide your uber shitty personality and the fact that your going to get no where in life by trying to be different but looking like all of the other idiots out there.

You're contradicting yourself. What you're saying there is that all there is to being a goth is dressing like one - but in the very next sentence, you claim that all goths have 'uber shitty personalities'. How the hell is that anything to do with what they wear?

So what are you going to define as 'goth'?

1. A person who has emotional problems, like you claim? Well then in that case the thread starter's girl is clearly not a goth.

2. Someone who wears 'gothy' clothes? Well then in that case your assertions that all goths need help are at best simply wrong and at worst, insane. That's like claiming that all people who wear pink shirts are gay.

Look, there are lots of goths in my school, and they're not pretending to be emotionally scarred. Gothic isn't more than the way you dress, btw. I read somewhere that 'its a label for dark, long clothes, makeup, dresses, boots' and something else.

I went out with a girl a couple odd years back now who was admittedly quite ugly back then, but I was desperate. And just now I was in Starbucks and she walked in and I was really taken a back at how pretty she'd got. So we got talking again and caught up and we are planning to meet up again on Saturday :D

EDIT: This post makes me seem super shallow. :p

I think we're all missing the obvious truth here.

Goths chicks are kinky one-night stands that you should distance yourself a mile from in order to avoid their emotional shittery afterwards.

Be warned, some aren't kinky as they should be:frown: :cheese:

Those two smilies give such a contradictory implication that my head has just exploded.

Luckily I can still type.

Your taking this too seriously. I am simply bashing goth people. Also realize no one cares if they dress that way because they like to. The way they dress sends a message to people that don't know that person, and they then generalize the person based on what they have seen before, and I was playing out the standard generalization made for gothic people. Also, there is a difference between no personality and a shitty one. I just don't understand why anyone would want to look like a satanist, or some evil messed up person. Despite if they are or aren't, that is what they look like and people make assumptions based on that. So if a person wants to be judged as a satanist/hating life person then you have to wonder what their life really is like. I do know many goth people, and none of them are like that. It is just the way people generalize them, and the fact that there are some really messed up goth people.

I'm taking this too seriously? So......your comments about goth girls having shit personalities, being only good for one-night stands and not being worth the effort were, in reality, very well-concealed sarcasm taking the piss out of people who generalise goths?

You're telling the guy not to continue with a girl he's attracted to. Even though he's made it clear she has no such emotional problems...I simply take exception to you stereotyping an entire subculture as 'morons' based purely on what they wear and on your preconceptions.

edit: Amusingly enough, the modern 'goths vs chavs' that we have here always reminds me of mods vs rockers.

At least all the morons dress the same so we know who to avoid.

I suggest you look here...

You guys want to fit in somewhere too even if you're denying it, you twits. If it's not the "common" scene it's some kind of alternative lifestyle, in the goth case it's.. goth, in your case it's internet geekery.

Everyone wants to fit in and be part of something, the goths want to be part of the goth lifestyle and thereby feel that they belong somewhere even if they're hiding the true self that way. But what the heck, who doesn't. VERY few people (generally, but I was mainly referring to on the internet) aren't afraid to be themselves, so i don't see much difference.

You're not better than anyone else so shut the **** up. Let people be people.

Thank you. I finally hear some voices I like...

Anyway, I guess I didn't explain things well enough. See, my school is unbelievable. Literally everybody is friends, social divisions are small and barely make any difference, and everyone's really tolerant. People dress the way they want, and nobody cares. At BHS (my school) it just doesn't matter. So I guess I'm just used to people looking past how others dress, and rather seeing how they are inside. I mean, I dress like an indie boy- tightish jeans, smallish Questionable Content shirt, sometimes a silly hat- if you met me in person, you'd think I was a music snob. You'd think I only cared how rare a band was, not how good they are. Well, that's not the case at all. In this day and age, that sort of superficiality is archaic. Even fifty years ago, the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" was floating around. So, in the words of the great CrazyHarij, let people be people. That's my rant.

Also, I kissed her yesterday. YAY.

So where's the photo of this magic moment.

Remember, a picture lasts forever.

(If and when you post it, could you edit yourself out? You'd be getting in the way of my pleasure.)

Hey, as long as you are happy, then **** what the rest of us say. If she has a nice personality, awesome. If she's hot (which you seem to think so), awesome. However, as many of us have said, pics are required.

yeah man. Honestly, I'm crazy about this girl. And I might've posted pics... if I had any. But whatever.

nothing says "i like you" by taking pictures of her through a window...

I'm not trying to win at the internet by creating a stance on goth's. I am simply giving JNightShade a hard time by calling her a goth and worthless. I find that a whole lot more fun than saying "Good on ya m8! ^_^".

A goth girl goes to my school. She dresses like a vampire and has actually had her teeth modified for a large sum of money.

yeah, I live in Belmont. Boring as hell, but near Cambridge and Boston, so it's all good.
