Based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, it tells of survivors living in Moscow's metro system, where stations have become cities with diverse societies including "democracy with market economy, totalitarian sects, military communism, primitive society with proper culture and beliefs." Naturally, the surface swarms with "mutant horrors."

holy shit, it's back

I doubt this will ever be released.

Metro 2033 will be released fpr PC and Xbox 360 and is now due in "early 2010."

They have reset the design of the game a couple of times since it was first announced. I am interested to see it, just because these more obscure titles can somtimes end up being quite good.

Aren't a lot of the people from STALKER working on this? Looks great.

Looks great. Lets hope its a great game too!

Correct, several of the lead designers who worked on STALKER left the team because of dissatisfaction with THQ forcing'em to simplify the game, and joined the team that's making Metro 2033.

I truly hope this game comes out because according to my Russian comrades the book it's based off is great.

I just realized the irony, the original STALKER team that broke off and formed this, did so because they felt THQ forced'em to simplify their original concept, now they're using THQ as a publisher AGAIN?

Haha, I know it's nothing but I just love the hilariousness of that.

so it's true that THQ forced devs to dumb down Stalker

Yup, basically after the team missed several deadlines set by THQ, THQ sent in one of their own "Advisors" to take charge and oversee development, effectively stripping the lead devs of their authority.

That's what I recall anyway, so basically if he said "Okay, that thing needs to go to make the game appeal to more people"; then they were bound by their contracts to do so.

This was something many of the original lead devs(being especially pissed because they were stripped of their authority within the team) took offense to and caused'em to leave iirc.

But I'm not 100% sure about all this, keeping in mind it was several years ago that this happened.

I see. Let's hope they don't dumb down this, and make it a lame console shooter. I'm hungry for some FPS games. Speaking of FPS games, I still want to get my hands on Cryostasis. It was quite expensive when I last checked it on Steam.

Oh for fuck's sake. THQ had every right in the world to get GSC to cut content. It was still better than cutting their funding entirely and making STALKER vapourware permanently.

Now, I don't think the cuts were too severe, in fact, the only thing I miss are the cut levels available in the 1935 build. The rest of the stuff, well, if GSC wasn't able to put them in during all those years of development, they wouldn't put it in anyways.

Dropping those developers might've been a good thing. Why? Because GSC delivered with Call of Pripyat.

Now, I love Sovietpunk, but I'm far from idolizing the "original leads". For all you know, STALKER: SHOC could've been an even buggier mess, if it was released according to their original vision.

Now, I expect one thing from Metro 2033: It will be buggy, unfinished, unpolished and so atmospheric we will become fused with our chairs.

Shush Grizzly!

Anyway, I have hopes this game will turn out better than STALKER, I also hope the 360 version is a decent one, and not a crap one ala for example the RPG Risen(Different devs and publishers I know but it was the most recent example I can think off of where the 360 version was so much more crappy than the PC one.
