I use to be a gun a mgs... but for the life of me i cannot get anywhere in this one. I may have to restart in "never played mgs before" mode :O because at the moment normal = getting nowhere....

Anyone else see this or have i become a mgs n00b. :(

Swtich radar and sonar and try to find nvg's and thermal goggles asap.

You definitely have to go through areas slower in mgs3 without the soliton radar.

Yeah i've noticed

I would be alright if i could see the guards field of vision.

I turned on the sonar thing and it manags to show up every little bug and creature around... i was like "OMG im surrounded!"

ehh i only got it the other day... maybe i'll just get used to it... it looks awesome... but i need practice :P

It took me a little while to get used to the different system. I'm sure you'll do fine after a little practice.

Don't underestimate the power of camoflauge. I made the mistake of playing the game like MGS2 at first, but really the camo is very effective and not just in the thick grass. Just put on the best you have and crawl around the ground, they will not see you unless they're really close. Unlike in MGS2 where I usually completely cleared an area of guards silently, in MGS3 I usually just make it through without being noticed at all, as it is very hard in some of the areas to take out all the guards unnoticed. I didn't find the radars very helpful, as I usually spotted them and could track them better with the games awesome audio than the stupid ghetto radars. The thermal goggles are a necessity though, once you find those, hunting, certain boss fights, and spotting guards becomes extremely easy.

Overall the stealth aspect of the game is a good bit harder, but they kinda balanced it out by greatly reducing the amount of reinforcements. In MGS3, it's actually feasible to win in a battle against the guards after you set them off, rather than hide every time. At least on Normal mode, on Hard and Extreme there's nearly endless reinforcements.

ohh and whats the deal with clicking "i like mgs 2" is that some sort of sick joke... I had to restart.

raiden can gtfo...

lol it's just a mask for the intro. Don't worry, Snake takes off the mask pretty much right away.

yeah its just the mask, get the thermal goggles asap and use the 'quick-equip' feature with them, press l2 etc scan the area, move on, its not that hard tbh, try euro extreme. :P .

i presume you're using the camo(use it all the time) etc and the long grass, tree trunks.

also general common sense comes into play, for example if a guard is coming towards your area, dont just sit there thinking he wont see you coz of your good camo.

if you need more help post back, i'd be happy to help.

Hehe suprisingly i went back and all of a sudden i was getting places...its all comeing back to me :) i am now up to fighting "the end"... and it is boring me to tears i cant find him for the life of me... any tips for this boss...

I used to play european extrame on mgs2 and i stil got places... just never got round to finishing it lol...

MGS 3 = to much movie , not enough gameplay
MGS 1 = the best game ever.

yes mgs1 is still great... even that was movie like though...

If you REALLY can't beat The End, save, and turn your PS2s clock forward 1 week. He will die of natural causes.

You won't be able to get his gun or camo though.

lol are you serious?

Ohh i just realised he shows up on the map when he fired... maybe i'll have a another shot

Get the best camouflage you have (Rain is the best, but it has to be raining for it to be effective.), and sneak as stealthy as you can to the next area, then sneak to each of the possible positions on the map until you find him, and see if you can hold him up, if you do you get his camo. After he drops it, he drops a flash grenade and runs away, turn away and follow him as closely as you can, try to get in a couple shots while you're at it. After he goes too far ahead, turn on your IR goggles and track his foot prints. When you get close to his sniping position, start crawling/sneaking, and pop up right behind him and shoot him, and repeat.

To get his tranquilizer rifle, you have to beat him with tranquilizers (and flash grenades maybe) only.

When you're near his sniping position and are crawling, he'll hear you, and look back to see what the sound was, when he does this stop immediately or he'll see/hear you, after he turns back you can go again.

Don't stand in the same place for too long, if you do he'll run up behind you and knock you out.

thermal goggles, directional mic and sniping pts on the map, all you need. :D

you can shoot him early on in the game too, when you first see him at that small dock when he is wheeled out, after that cutscene you can shoot him, his wheelchair blows up coz of the gas tanks. its quite funny watching him suddenly wake up and try and wheel furiously to safety.

watch out for the wheelchair though, once it blows it will fly through the air and crash on big boss.

in the area where the end is there'll be a ocelot unit on constant evasion mode searching for you, there is about 8 of them like before at the rassvet factory where you meet olga, like that, its quite fun taking them on.

Ugh I hated the end too, :( my tactic was: fire around with my AK randomly and got him to notice me, then I knew where he was :D sneaked and shot him .....repeat
It was the only way :(

Olga?o.o
You mean EVA?:p

Make sure to shoot his bird at the start of the fight too. It's hanging out on a branch near you. I don't think it helps at all IIRC, but it's damn funny.

If you collect at least one of each kind of food in the game, you unlock the EZ Gun for the next time you start over.

You unlock the stealth camo if you shoot all of the little frogs in the game.

The 1 week thing really works y'know, but if you reload BEFORE 1 week has passed he takes you back to that prision.

Don't do that one week crap, what a cheap cop out. Man up and face him.

Yea! Plus, you should tranquilise him. And hold him up at least once. That's what a real man does... and I got a tranq. rifle and The End's camo for my troubles :)

Yeah, the Moss camo you get from him is definitely one of the better camos in the game. Just gotta be patient and not try go all gung ho on his ass. It's actually one of the best fights to get used to the feel of sneaking, scouting, and stalking, which is much more important in this game than the previous ones.

yeah i savour every minute of it when i get to it, its a great challenge and the first game to do a sniper v sniper battle right. Sometimes though i go'' uh not the end again'' as a it can take awhile but the rewards are great particurly the moss camo. I love the whole atmosphere of the battle, the way the weather changes etc and the little clues to where he is like when you get a view through his scope when you take too long finding him, his bird etc, the glare off his scope, him ''speaking'' to the forest etc.

speaking of weapons its a shame you cant get the fear's guns, you know that dart gun, that was awesome.

Yeah, you can still poison enemies tho, and let'em die, that's always fun :D

?? :O , how so?
You blow up their food resources, then you throw a poisonous animal/plant infront of'em, they will eat, and after a while die, iirc.:)

MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS2, I have to say I really didn't enjoy MGS2, it's not that I didn't like Raiden, it just felt.. shorter then MGS1 for some reason..

MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS2, probably what i'd say too but i liked mgs2.

''you're a man?'' :P

Once you got around the bajillion hours of codec sequences and cutscenes, mgs2 was an awesome game. It's just that when you have to put up with that much of a confusing, overdramatic, drawn out story, it better deliver in the end. Which we know it didn't. I'd give mgs2 my "worst video game ending ever" award. It just made everything else you did seem pointless. Other than that though it was a really great game.

i liked the ending :P , maybe im just :rolling: ?

but i have the official strategy guide which explains the story including the ending, it makes it sound very good, i liked how the ending left it up to you to take what you wanted from it. There were just too many twists at the end to be able to keep up imo. Still liked the story, theres some very good interpretations on the net.
