We know the Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its long cut-scenes, but this tops everything! Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment in Hideo Kojima's seminal stealth series, has cut-scenes (note the plural) that approach the 90 minutes mark.

For those troubled with time keeping, that's the length of a feature film.

The news comes from PSW magazine, who's been and finished MGS4, and then promptly whispered in our ears about the shocking 90-minute cut-scenes. The latest issue hits newsstands today, by the way.

90.....minutes? :|

You're making a GAME Kojima!

But still, I greet this news with this attitude:

MGS cutscenes are always fun to watch, 90 mins is perfect. Just as long as it's actually interesting and not diagrams and graphs about the Vietnam war or something

Does that mean 90 minute cut scenes or 90 minutes worth of cut scenes?

4.6gb is about average compared to other PS3 games with mandatory installs...

That wouldn't be awesome, that would be hell. I've got shit to do. When the **** would I have time to play this game?

Good thing it isn't true.

The MGS4 team recently announced that the 90 minute long cutscenes will be place directly after save points, but before the big boss battles. They are also un-skipable.

I will murder whomever decided to make a (or any) cutscene anywhere close to that length.

With their toe.

There is no final word from Kojima. Nothing is proven, but the person who says it's not 90 minutes has already beaten the game twice.

I will most likely trust his word over bunch of magzines with a crappy speculations.

Wat? MGS cutscenes are fun to watch? FFS, they're a variation on the talking heads theme - two (or more) guys move around and talk. Talk. Talk. Talk. (15 minutes pass) Talk. Talk. (Yaaawn). Talk.

It doesn't have a 90 minute cutscene but if it did, that's pretty ludicrous. This is a game.

Agreed.

To put that into perspective, a 90 minute 'cutscene' would be nearly as long as Escape from L.A. or N.Y.

I read that the total amount of cutscenes would be 2 hours so it was obvious 90 of them wouldnt be used on a single one

The end of the Golden Age of gaming is near when games become more like "interactive movies" instead of actual games.

Oh well, I heard that Kojima guy was crazy anyways. Good thing I was never into the MGS series I suppose. :|

Jesus christ, there are actually people here who would have no problem with this?

90 minute cutscenes.

90.

Ninety.

Nine-zero.

An HOUR AND A HALF.

No, seriously?

Was I the only one who found this hilarious?

No. I laughed out loud. I think it's a testament to how clueless they are about game design and narrative.

Yeah I laughed as well especially after I heard this is supposed to be more confusing than MGS 2 O_O

The issue isn't understanding the storylines.

It's whether players give a shit about any of it after half an hour of exposition (which is statistically likely to contain 8 double-crosses and some gay jazz flute).

The fact anyone could believe this gives me a real sense of superiority. It's quite a rush.

I wouldn't put it past Kojima actually and that is quite scary :|

Yup ... especially considering the fact that it was debunked on the first page of this thread. Yet people keep referring to it as if it were true. It's either a case of willful ignorance or obliviousness.

And that's coming from the master of Ignorance and Obliviousness.

I'm still lol'ing at how the entire thread seems to have missed the second post, even after it was quoted again half way through.

Quite the contrary really, the day games can reach the same impact as watching any of the classic films is when a true 'Golden Age' of gaming can truly be reached and the medium receive proper recognition outside of gamers alone.

As is, games are like a minor league sports team compared to it's big brother film counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I love games, just that when you compare the two medium there's really no contest over which one holding more weight over the end user.

From what I've gathered, it was a miss-understanding, rather than there beeing a 90 minute cutscene, the total amount of time of ALL cutscenes is 90 minutes.

Why are you such a troll? You're mildly annoying and I'd rather not have you speak to me anymore. You're my internet stalker. You follow me around and make poorly thought out derogatory comments. It's weird and more than a little pathetic. **** off.

Are you kidding me? Pop hit games like Halo, Half-Life 2, WoW, Rainbow 6, and others make most movie studios green with envy. You're not part of some secret cult, you know; popular games make a shit ton of money and the market out there for both PC and console gaming is tremendously huge. If you look at South Korea, Starcraft is the national ****in sport.

You flex those Internet muscles Mr. Cool:hmph:

You're missing the point, I'm not talking about raw sales. Hell if we're looking at raw sales, then Titanic is one of the greatest movies of all time (it certainly isn't). To emphasize my point:

Popularity =/= Quality

Catering to the masses is fine, but if you put any of those games against most of the imdb top 250 (some notable exceptions) and it's obvious how one medium is superior over the other in terms of quality. Despite how good HL2 is, putting it into direct competition with a series like Godfather or hell, even Star Wars, and there's really no competition.

Bah lies, I don't care what you say I'll always favour an interactive medium of a passive one. To put that in perspective I've never actually bothered to watch the Godfather series and I highly dislike Star Wars.

That's a trolling. Bad Garg bad.
