Do you prefer a mouse or trackball for gaming?

Corded optical mouse.

Get a razer death adder or logitech mx518 they are winrar.

Don't get a "laser" mouse, they have some major tracking issues and you may also get some problems with wireless. They can lag a little.

I had a friend who would play FPS on his trackball. ****ing surprised everybody.

On that note, though, I'll always use a regular mouse. I have a wireless mouse I use for FPS, and I find it suits me well. There are never any times I go "OH GOSH IF ONLY MY MOUSE DIDN'T MISS THE .25 SECONDS!"

If you're casual, it doesn't really matter what mouse you pick, whatever is in your budget. If you're VERY competitive, Optical.

I have a Sidewinder mouse, never let me down. Great for people with big hands too.

I have the Deathadder. It uses infrared. It's almost perfect except that there is a bug in the scroll wheel that scrolls two places once every upward rotation. I RMA'd it and the new one does the same thing.

Therefore I'd recommend the mx518. I've had mine for several years with no problems. The only gripes with the mx518 are that it's ugly as hell and less comfortable to use than the Deathadder.

Wasn't this a poll here about this sometime previously? I've used a trackball for maybe seven years - I don't think one is necessarily better than another though, but I can't imagine using a regular mouse for gaming.

I bought some awful ass combo, because I built a new computer. It included a mouse and keyboard, and it's Microsoft brand. The keyboard is pretty nice, but thats not what we're talking about. The mouse seemed nice at first, but I realized it was a piece of shit. My hand goddamn sticks to it because of the glossy material it's made of.

The tracking of the mouse is bad, and every 10-20 minutes I have to manually pick up the mouse and blow in it to make it stop lagging. It's that bad. I've never had a problem with a laser mouse like this before. It's some new "Bluetrack Technology", and it's just annoying. Moral of the story, there are some really shitty ass laser mouses. So watch out.

Oh and just so you don't buy it, it's the Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000

I tried wireless mice... Had one from a brand called rocketfish... It had a 3.2 ghz optical processor... The most useless piece of technology in a single piece of hardware I've ever even thought of.

I have a plain logitec optical corded mouse that works like a dream.

My logictech MX revolution has served me well ever since I got it. I think that when moving back home a month or so ago that I banged up the usb receiver though. I had to use a usb extension cable to put it closer to the mouse, because every once in awhile it would just have fits stop working for a second or two, then work normal, then have a fit again. Made playing BF:BC2 a bitch. Haven't had a problem since i moved the receiver closer though, and this didn't happen until I packed my mouse and receiver in a box with a bunch of other odds and ends that probably got knocked around a bunch.

I had a lachesis. Broken now, doesn't detect the Y axis while no dark surfaces. Weirdest shit. If I put down a piece of white paper underneath it it works fine.

Other than that, I just have wireless mice. I don't play games like a PRO LEGIT LEET SNIPER anyway, and it's mostly RTS.

I just use some basic laser mouse from walmart (logitech) that costed around $14. Hasn't let me down yet. I play CounterStrike:CZ with it all the time.

To be honest I had thought trackballs were a thing of the past, I probably had my hand on one like 10 years ago.

But a few days ago I spoke with a friend who is a professional photographer and I told him I might want to pick up a tablet soon that I'd use for more precise photo editing etc. and he recommended a trackball instead. I don't know how this thing can be more precise than a mouse, I guess I'd have to give one a go to see for myself (even though I realise I would probably suck with it at first).

BTW, weren't these things also called "cats"? As opposed to, you know, "mice"

Razer Copperhead....had it for about 4-5 years and it's still perfect.

I have this:

and it's the only pointing device I've used on my primary computer for the last 8 years or so - includes 8h/day working (mostly web app dev, light photoshop), plus more hours gaming (including FPS).

I've had to replace a couple parts because they got worn out (one of the buttons on the right broke after a drop during a move, USB cable old and twisted), but it still works great, which IMHO is amazing for a $45 trackball. Unfortunately, they haven't made these things in years, but people still sell them on eBay for like $200+, which should tell you something about a trackball that originally retailed for $45.

I've had the Logitech Mx518 for over 2 years now. Great mouse with everything you would ever need. Either that or the Deathadder:

I mean look at that thing! I would get it if it wasn't 60$, which is a little much for a mouse imo.

60$? I got mine for around 35$, I guess not all hardware is more expensive here.

Tbh I was surprised, I always thought all the 'pro' mice were around 60-80$ and when I was buying it, I thought it was cheaper because Razer is not such a big name like Logitech and couldn't put the price so high.

I have a $15 cheapo, works fine for games, but I'll keep an eye out for that deathadder if it goes on sale.
