Mid-Build questions

Got my mobo, processor, and ram today...couple questions so far.

I have the processor and heatsink installed, as well as having the mobo screwed in.

First...1 of the screws just doesnt fit, i assume thats ok though if the mobo isnt moving, right?

My CD-ROM/Burner....the connection for it is at the bottom of the mobo behind the PCI slots, how in the name of zues's butthole am I supposed to connect them?

What is the motherboard model? I've seen floppy connectors at the bottom of the board but I don't recall any IDE ports down there. Usually on the side. Floppy is 36 pins and IDE is 40.

You don't have to have ALL the screwed in to secure the motherboard but it's a good idea to have at least 6. The PC uses those to help ground the components to the case.

I usually test the screws in the stand-offs first (screw holes the motherboard sits on). That way I know the threads on the screws will fit. Otherwise I've got the wrong screws and they will either get stuck and strip or track too loose to tighten.

The IDE connector all the way to the right thats red, that is my cd rom jack isnt it? The fdd conncetor is for my floppy, and doesnt even fit with the cd rom/burner drives. THe only viable option is that IDE connector and I def. cant stretch it all the way over there. The two cables they provided are mtoo short, and 1 doesnt fit. I was under the impression that they were universal but I guess not.

Also...my old mobo had a wire for the fan input, with 3 pins. The new heatsink/fan has a 4 pinned piece...there is a spot on the mobo called "fan" but I wasnt sure if the fan should be powered through the mobo and not teh PSU.

Sry for the noob questions, thought I was ready to build.

Edit: After reading alot of reviews, its just a really BAD spot for it, but its normal. I suppose I need to relocate my drive/s until I can get a longer cable.

Holy mother that is possibly the worst place for them to put the ide socket. That would indeed be where you need to plug in your cd/dvd drive if you have an ide drive.

Solution: get a longer cable, or get a sata dvd drive.

The stock intel heatsink plugs into the mobo via the 4 pin interface you have mentioned.

Now i get a really annoying beep sound when I start the computer...no idea why...

Does it still boot with the annoying beeps?

My PC emits a single short beep when it powers up, nothing to worry about assuming the PC starts up as intended.

Its all set, it was a hardware error but I reinstalled some things and its ok now. Just installed vista and the drivers.

Man, that's a silly place to put the IDE connector. Every mobo I've ever had puts it up by the SATA connectors there.

Glad to see you've succeeded building, I did my first build this summer and it was awesome :thumbs:

well, it didnt go without problems...couldnt fit my video card in at first, took me about 20 minutes
