Mindblowing Wii game sales

well for starters there are like 50 million more gamers than when those older systems came out. as far as the other reasons, Wii games are generally cheaper and sequels are made back to back and not 1-5 years apart.

And yet when someone says Wii sucks, they really mean Wii sucks for hardcore gamers. also i know your joking but also I love it when no one backs up the Wii. everyone knows it sucks, but its like they are addicted to bad gaming

Wii Sports doesn't count. It's a bundled game.

Minesweeper has been bundled with a lot of Windows versions. Clearly Minesweeper is the best selling video game of all time.

More gamers? Really? While that may be true in some respects, note that most of the people buying the Wii are people who would never touch a PC/360/PS3 game, and just want it because "Ohh look, it has bowling and I can get fit without leaving my house."

All the titles that were listed are the casual games. I believe I made a point when I coined the term "casual grandmas".

They have tons of Wii games at my small public library for some reason. 'Nuff said.

Enjoy your mediocre alternatives?

In before Warbie.

Casual gaming is the future. Just look at The Sims it's the biggest selling series on the PC by far.
The Wii has the advantage of having interesting exclusives. The best games on the 360/PS3 are muliti-platform so they both lose.

The Wii is meant to compliment the other consoles, not replace them.

It's total immersion or nothing for me.

Casual games aren't really intended for people who like games, they are made for people who don't normally like video games.

Perhaps.

I care for neither the term casual, nor the term hardcore. It's a pointless distinction to make. The fact is they are great games.

Games are games.

New markets are new markets.

Money is money.

Games shouldn't be limited to gimmicky motion-control games directed to doing things that can be done in everyday life outside of the home. Well, I mean, for Nintendo. This isn't going to happen for the PC and other consoles. Remember when Nintendo cranked out ass-kicking game after game? Now what you see from Nintendo and on the back of Nintendo-related publications is something like this:

This... this can't be the Big N's future. Such a legacy can't go into decline like this at what may be the most important time in gaming history. They need to crack down and bring the good ol' games back.

But it is their future. They're not just going to say "Oh yeah, we forgot about you faithful guys, here's some more ridiculously good games". They have too much money to do that now. I don't understand why some people are still on the Nintendo bandwagon.

Wii sucks.
This.

I understand what you are saying, but I make a distinction between immersive and casual when comparing Half-Life2 to Minesweeper. Yes, simple games can be amusing or they wouldn't be called games, however, I'm not interested in being amused when playing a game, I want to be enthralled.

Wii sucks for hardcore gamers?? Casual games aren't intended for people who like games?! What shite. It may suck for hardcore gamers that don't find pleasure in party/social gaming, but that's about it. The beauty of the Wii is that it bridges the gap between hardcore and casual/non gamers and allows me to enjoy games with friends and family who previously had no interest. This is a great thing.

I enjoy 10 player Wii Resort sessions every bit as much - possibly more now i'm getting older - than 'hardcore' clan matches.

Like it or not, there's now a distinct traditional/party split in Nintendo's output now. Titles like Wii Sport Resort work excellently, are great fun, and sell shit loads. It'd be madness to stop producing games like this. Then we have Mario Galaxy (arguably still the best game released this gen), which shows they're still incredibly capable when it comes to making great, traditional games. Sure, I'd prefer more focus more on traditional franchises, but appreciate what we are getting too.

Mario Galaxy 2 is on the way and we will be getting a proper Wii Zelda. After playing Wii Sports Resort to death over the last few weeks i'd be surprised if we didn't see a new Pilot Wings and Star Fox too. We may be waiting longer between games, but they will come.

'Casual gamers' and 'Hardcore gamers' is such a worthless division - it is a false distinction, and I do not abide by it. I think, if you do place value in such terms, you're doing it -- looking at it -- very wrong.

Holy shit man. YOU FOUND A BAD WII GAME. And also one that apparently represents Nintendo's future? Um, it's a shitty game marketed to children that happens to be for the Wii. Why not use an argument that makes sense? I don't have to remember when Nintendo made great games, because they still do. None of them have gimmicky motion controls. Play Metroid Prime 3 and tell me it's got gimmicky controls. Go ahead, I dare ya.

It's not even a game developed by Nintendo.

I don't like arguments just falling away like this. You guys should get to see how stupid/ignorant you are before the thread dies.

I don't know why people keep assuming I hate Wii or I think Wii only has casual games considering that I've never said either. The Wii is the only console that I don't have any ill will towards.

The other consoles can crash and burn and I would cheer for it. At least if you are going to make a game console, make it not just a watered down PC.

My comments were not directed towards you Virus.

I'm not saying that Nintendo doesn't make good games. I'm saying that their console has the most casual games for it, and its audience and motion control are being over-exploited, usually for the worse. When developers try to figure out how to give a rhyme or reason to implemented Wii controls and it ends up being something like a birthday game or something ridiculous like that, third-party potential is sacrificed. Games being made by Nintendo are still great. <3 those guys.

How would 'back to back' sequels increase sales for one particular game?

This, oh so freaking much.

In summary "SOME OF THE GAMES MADE FOR WII ARE BAD!"? Isn't that the case for pretty much every console ever?

Not all consoles introduce an innovative game control. You do have a point though, now that I think about it graphics are usually what is focused on in development for any other console.

If people like casual games, they like casual games. I don't see the reason to consider them lesser gamers. Games are games.

I'm pretty sure unozero has me blocked, but yeah... moron.

I don't own one, but I like wii. It's definitely fun to play mario party and stuff with a bunch of friends

MGS4
Resistance 1
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Ratchet & Clank Future

I count 5, unless you count Resistance 1 and 2 to be one game? :l

Er...PLEASE don't forget Uncharted and Demon's Souls--two of the best games of the new millenium.

zomg the wii attracts casual players! who cares? man some of you guys bitch about everything
