Which band or artist is in your opinion the most overrated? This is not a question of the worst artist ever; you might even think it's good, but not nearly as good as what other people say.

NIN
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (I know, not a band, but same idea)
Nirvana
Daft Punk

Any "rock god" before the 80's.

If I have to hear one more rant about how music ain't as good as it used to be and how - like - Hendrix is the best musician ever in the history of music, I will shit on you.

The Beatles, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica.

Seriously, they were good, but shut the **** up about them already, they're all dead (either literally or artistically).

The Beatles
White album. Now.

NOW!

Errr, yeah. Best not start some flame thing. Although I disagree about NiN and Beatles.

Anyhow - Radiohead. Never liked them, never felt them as good as everyone says. Except perhaps for Creep.

Nirvana is one of my favourite bands and even I'm willing to admit they are over-rated :D

There's a difference between something being over-rated and you not liking it.

I'm pretty sure 99 percent of the people who like the kind of music Aphex Twin makes, agree that Aphex Twin is one of the best artists in the genre.

That's not over-rated.

I'd say that that half the home-made electronica out there is bounds better than Aphex Twin.

His songs are complex and detailed, but that doesn't make them all good. Alot of them sound intricate just for the hell of it, not to actually incite emotion.

In any case, what is "overrated" is almost always biased and opinionated. It's impossible for one to speak on behalf of the musical community as a whole.

I agree on Radiohead. They're just too bland.

How much have you heard? Only a handful of Aphex Twin is very complicated. And even those still have plenty of substance besides the drum programming.

The man has been called a genius countless times by critics who know their stuff. He's like the top guy of electronic music. I don't care if you like his music or not, he is an incredible musician.

Over rated is when so many people like a band that doesn't really have that much talent. AKA they don't deserve the rating they gets. They would be over-rated.

yes, was going to say coldplay too

oasis is really awesome, but yes, they are kind of overrated..

And whether or not a band has talent is usually based entirely on opinion.

Ladies, ladies... I do believe this song proves without a doubt that Aphex Twin have/has talent.

Urgh.

UUUUUUUUUUUUURGH.

Just hearing that ****ing word makes my HEAD hurt.

I think my balls are bleeding.

What's the one aphex twin song, with the insanely weird drum track, and the music video was claymation?

That song owns.

Well ---> IMO <---

-My Chemical Romance (personally I think they are shocking)
-NIN

Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles for sure. Boring music? No thanks.

I would say stuff like My Chemical Romance but to be honest they're not that overrated as they're hardly regarded as classics. Same as U2. Lots of people dislike them. They're big, but they'd need to be adored universally without reason to be the MOST OVERRATED BAND EVER.

I can't think of anything 'cos I like the Beatles etc. Maybe Frank Sinatra. Most of that era of music is just shit. Jazz was the only vaguely interesting thing going on.

That doesn't make any goddamn sense. A shitty band could be ****ing pushed through the roof in album reviews, but I can still think they're shitty. Ratings do not mean I'm obligated to sit back and go, "That band is really ****ing shitty, but, you know, they get good reviews so, they're not too bad after all I guess since a lot of people like them." Wait; did I just define over-rated? Shit.

I'm going to have to agree with Qonfused here. Regardless of how original someone is, or technically talented, or creative, or whatever else... if he makes music that I can't say ''this is good stuff'' to, then I couldn't really care about him or them/the artists.

Personally I wouldn't say Aphex Twin is overrated at all but it's horses for courses, innit?

I don't believe AFX is overrated either. Veggie's logic was so out of wack, I had to post.

As much as it makes me weep to hear people calling Mr. Phex overrated, he probably is to some degree. SAW1 and the RDJ Album were definitely landmarks, but oh my god... the incessant fawning even gave me some doubts. Besides, I think his days as a trailblazer are over. He brought electronic music to the living room, he shaped most IDM as it is today, influenced countless artists, and he made a ****load of cash in the process. I imagine he's simply content to ride it out from here and make Acid all day. Or at least until a new style comes along and catches his interest.

It's called On

Radiohead
NiN

first ones that came to mind after reading the thread.

This thread contains too much blasphemy that offends my fine senses.

Oh, and "On" for the god damn ****ing win.
