Most underrated games.

Blood 2 the Chosen. Fun shooter, so gory it's funny. Cool weapons. 4 characters that are all different in some stat.

That game was actually good? I loved the original Blood but heard that the sequel was poor in comparison.

My list:
Blood. So creative. So much dark humor. Was able to maintain a semblance of continuity between levels and go through such variety. And, the carnival... with the mimes, and Happy Go Pukey, and JoJo the Idiot Boy! The carnival level is just pure awesome. Ahhhhh, good times.

Battlezone. RTS-FPS-flying around in hovercraftish vehicles game from 1998. I thought the interface was quite nice where you play in first person and guide around other vehicles... had a nice simple menu system for building things.

Descent. You could fly around corriders going in circles for like 10 minutes and not realize it. Flying through holes in the ceiling was always disorienting. Pretty intense game but sadly too difficult for me to finish past level 18 maybe.

The Secret Island of Dr Quandary. Because edutainment is awesome, and this one was particularly fun and well done. Also the manual is funny. They just don't make game manuals the way they used to... :(

The 7th Guest. Not underrated during its time but now people say it sucks. I think it still looks nice and it's fun trying to remember how to do some of the puzzles after not playing it in years.

Populous. Again, not underrated during its time but I doubt many people nowadays know of this game. I mentioned it to someone at work today who wants to do game programming, and he's like "Oh yeah, once I stayed up late playing that game and then when I went to sleep, I was still seeing land moving up and down." :p

Jedi Knight Series,
Half Life 2,
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3.

Jagged Alliance 2. Best turn based tactical combat game. Ever. (with the exeption of the JA2 MOD squad's Jagged Alliance 2: Urban Chaos mod).

Shogo: Mobile armour division. Big guns, big mechas, big explosions and a solid storyline. It ****ing rocked!

I enjoy the FAR majority of what I play, so everything is underrated to me :p

Star Wars: Republic Commando

That game was so fun and well made, it didnt get the credit it deserved.

Anyone remember Nox? I loved that game. :D

I do. :D I played it like 2-3 years ago. I think I completed I as a Warrior the first time. The only dissapointment for me was when I finished it and couldn't play no more. I tried to play it again recently but couldn't seem to get into it again.

Only other game I can think off at the monent is Project Nomads.

Eversince I played the demo I really wanted to get it but forgot about it when I got my new PC. A few years later I find it on Gameplay.co.uk for £2 so I bought it. While it was a little cartooney/magical, I loved it to bits. What other game lets you fly around on an island? :p

EDIT: Oh, and KKND2: Crossfire was another game I felt was underrated.

One of the best games I ever played. Its scale is enormous, the story is very engrossing and it was told very well. I plays like a first / third person RPG altho there aren't any RPG parameters to speak of. The ammount of territory you can explore is very big and it is as non-linear as you want it to be. It is almost eight years old now and altho the graphics (voxels!!!) look very basic by todays standards, the gameplay is still quite revolutionary. A quote from the Gamespot review is very funny, esp. when you substitue 'the arrow keys' with 'the WASD keys'.
CRAP! I knew I had forgotten a game, I was wondering what it was! If Appeal will ever give me the rights to remake their game in Source, it will be the sole thing I will force myself to do before I die.

It was absolutely awesome, and still looked quite sharp when playing it in higher resolutions. The gameplay was awesome, the weapons were stupendous and the story was incredibly compelling. The dialogs with the NPCs were very, very well made, and the game used motioncapturing to be as hawt as it could be. They even asked a cinematographer for help to get the camera angles during the dialogs right, giving it a very realistic movie feeling. And the music... The music was made by an entire ****ing orchestra. The music OWNED YOUR MOTHER****ING CAT.

On their site, located here, you can download their entire soundtrack, an interview, behind the scenes videos and HILARIOUS sketches. And with hilarious I seriously mean "omfgrofliamdieingoflaughterhere".

Warzone 2100.

Very fun game where you could build your own units. Tanks with heavy tracks, heavy but sturdy body, and a huge weapon...slow and epensive or how about a tank with light tracks? a sturdy body and a overall good weapon? It'll be quicker and could do more.

Over 2700 combinations of vehicles and it was a damn fun game. It featured tons of things to research. Want to stop tanks from getting into your base? Lay down some spike traps. You know how some games have walls? Why not walls with huge guns. Building units was simple and there were tons of combinations.

Oh I remembered playing the demo for ages ^^
It was surely a castle of awesome.

I agree, that game is so god damn awesome! *possible spoiler* It sucked that the Hunter type guy dies though, he's the coolest character... *end spoiler*

Dammit.. I know there are games that I know of, but I can't think of any..

Here are some games that I think would bring SEGA back into the greatness that they once were. (taken from what I said in the other thread)

Bring back Shining in the Darkness RPG, Greatest Heavywieghts Boxing, Streets of Rage, Shenmue, House of the Dead, and stuff like that. Expand upon the good qualities and lose the bad qualities, instead of just recreating the game again with all the flaws. Damn that is such a shame.

I miss SEGA Turbo. I think I only got a chance to play it twice. I was a kid, so I never had the money. This game looked so awesome in 1981, let me tell ya. Hopefully this game will show up on Xbox live or the Wii classics or something. I'll buy it. Sometimes the classic games are more fun.

Yeah the Demo was great. I played that for ages to. Thankfully Edios has released the source code so the engine is being upgraded by the current community.

You can find the full version now at the underdogs: http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4755

TURBO!! I played that game on the Atari (or actually maybe it was the Colecovision)... it came with a whole separate steering wheel and pedal component. Soooo fun. Then the battery leaked in the steering wheel and it stopped working, and then my dad threw away the Atari (and the Colecovision). I can't believe it. I want to play Defender and Adventure again, and I know I can just play them on an emulator, but using the keyboard just isn't the same.... ;(

It was also one of those games that even my mother approved of. She thought it would improve our hand-eye coordination and make us better drivers. Haha :D.

Kameo
I rented this a few days ago and it turned out to be pretty good (I had low expectatons), it's pretty fun, innovative and actually has a decent amount of content.

Loom
this was around LucasArts' (I think it was called Lucasfilm Games back than though) adventure era and was based on the scumm engine (MI, Indianna Jones & so on) and was just awesome and very, very creative/original.

Soldiers: Heroes of WW2

yup, great game, is there a sequel being worked on ?

Comix Zone

Another hit from SEGA past, this game needs a sequel, or needs to be re-released on Live Arcade, or whatever Wii is doing with their classic game distribution. It came out at the end of the Genesis life, and almost nobody knows about it.

This game was so impressive to me, that it was unbelievable that it was on the Genesis. This really shows how the longer a console is out, the better the games get. I bought it at a pawn shop for about $1 about 5 years ago for something called a Nomad (portable Genesis) It was so incredible.

Check it out:

here you can see that an artist is drawing the monsters:

It was awesome the moves you can do. You can jump kick them and they would tear through the pages of the comic book, and things like that. Paper would go flying and, aw man. I'm going to try to find a place to d/l this.

Edit:
Sweet! Perfect emulation. :D

I am saddened by the lack of The Chronicles of Riddick in this thread. :(

It had all the makings of a good game: Good story, good graphics, good gameplay, etc. I liked how it mixed up the action, too: One level your sneaking past gaurds in the shadows, the next level your blasting through aliens, then you find yourself having fist-fights with inmates, then shooting the shit out of everything with giant robots...

Plus it even had Vin Diesal and XZibit in it, and it only sold like what, a couple thousand copies?

NOLF was also underated (1 and 2).
Lots of people just thought it was a cheap game, and those who bought it was going to get a very nice surprise of a very well done, and fun game.

totally agree with that.

Others:
Gabriel Knight 3
Gothic 1+2
and i really liked Tex Murphy: Overseer :cheese:

Comix Zone
High five. ^5. HIGH F*CKING FIVE. Jesus, I thought I was the only guy who remembered this game. Comix Zone, yeaaaaaah! That was an awesome platformer right there. Panel to panel, beating up monsters and performing special moves across panes, that was cool stuff. I think the first time I played this thing was on Sega Channel, can't be sure but I think that was when.

Here's an underrated game for an underrated system: Astal for Saturn. It's always in my top ten games of all time, because it's just so beautiful but I don't think it sold very well; didn't get that much exposure. It was a real sleeper hit of a game though, dead gorgeous, and fun. Good graphics, good gameplay, good story, hand-drawn cutscenes, and some of the best music. It even had a two-player mode where one person could control Astal's bird familiar.

Sad very few people ever heard about it.

How is that underrated? Everyone loves it?

I'm gonna go with TRON 2.0

Freedom Fighters and.....Psychonauts.

System Shock 2 just about the creepiest game I've ever played :O

Mafia just so so beautiful to drive around in.

Psychonauts top humour and great game play, though a little tricky on the controls on the PC.

Beyond good and evil simple yet beautiful.

Hidden & Dangerous 2
made by the same people who made Mafia, lovely looking and great game play.

Jagged Alliance 2 a mammoth game to complete, but excellent fun. Shit graphics, but great game play.

Messiah quirky, but with some fantastic level design and set pieces.

Vampire the masquerade:bloodlines not perfect, but certainly worth playing

yea. i agree with samon with all things you say
espacially , a new sequel of freedom fighters

How is that underrated? Everyone loves it?
It doesn't matter if everyone who plays it loves Riddick, if nobody knows about it. He made it seem like it was a great game that was a flop and didn't sell well. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea. :E

The thread is about GREAT games that you would like to see a new version or a sequel, not just about games that were under-rated, although I believe that most people are listing games that are both under-rated and they would like to see a new version come out.

Maybe he would really love to see a new Riddick game. But, I doubt it will have Vin Diesel. He seems to ask for more money all the time.

Would EvE online count?

And I agree with Kouler about Republic Commando.

Future Cop LAPD:

This game > you.
i freaking loved that on playstation, and multiplayer was fun as hell, going around capturing turrets and building 'units.'

my brother bought it for pc too, it's around here somewhere. there's an 'easter egg' when you install it on a mac too, it has a special message for you. ;)

there was a game with similarities or something to future cop i read about recently or something (within a few months).

I played that a while ago on a demo disc I bought ages ago, was so damn fun blowing up everything you could see and the co-op was insane. I never got around getting it though.
Why isn't EA doing games like this anymore? Meh.

I really need to find Future Cop somewhere. I'll have to buy it again. Because its excellent.

It is? I read a review somewhere saying that it was garbage.

SID MEIER'S PIRATES

Started playing yesterday OMG WHAT A ****ING FUN GAME

my manager told me to play it, so i did on shift and i like ****ed up because i was too into the game to pay attention to customers

Future Cop LAPD:

This game > you.
When I first saw the mechs in BF2142, this was the game I thought of. In fact when the first footage of BF2142 was shown, and they didn't SAY it was BF2142, I actually assumed it to be a new Future Cop. They're both from EA anyway.

Future Cop: LAPD...is that the one where you are playing in a mech and it's from a bird's eye perspective? If so, I only played the demo...but it rocked :D
