Something happening in my neck of the woods.

Been a nasty crash on the M5 motorway and according to The Beeb:

BBC said:
At least 27 vehicles crashed on the northbound carriageway of the M5 near Taunton, causing several explosions.
Police confirmed that "some" people had "tragically lost their lives" amid fears up to 16 people had been killed in the "horrific" accident, described as one of the “worst traffic accidents” in recent memory.

Appaz they're still shifting some of the lorries involved and finding more cars and people.

BBC said:
On Saturday police said that at least seven people have been killed and at least 51 are suffering injuries. Witnesses said heavy fog and wet weather had caused “horrendous” driving conditions, prior to the accident just before 8.30pm.

...and here's a video:

This makes Stylo a sad panda.

Remember remember the 5th of November
Taunton, crashes, and fog.
I see no reason why Taunton and crashes
should ever be forgot.

Do people there not slow down tremendously when visibility is limited?

All it takes is one douchefanny to drive on a motorway in bad weather without due caution and you have yourself the chance of a nasty crash.

Unfortunately, I encounter these people every time I get in my car to go anywhere. There's been more than once where if I wasn't paying attention to the road, I'd have been dead or maimed from some idiot driving like a fool and disobeying even basic rules of the road. Dunno whether it's where I live or just the country tbh.

Not been a crash involving this many vehicles, explosions and fire in Britain for a while though as far as I know so this makes the headlines for us!

Another crash yesterday on the M6 due to fog. Thankfully nobody was killed or seriously hurt.

A crash involving 11 vehicles on the M6 motorway in Lancashire was caused by fog, police have said.

Visibility was reduced to about 30ft in places on Sunday morning.

The crash involved seven cars and four lorries and happened close to junction 29, near Leyland, south of Preston, at about 01:40 GMT.

One person was trapped in a lorry and had to be released by firefighters. Six people were injured, none of them seriously.

The motorway was reopened in both directions just before 09:00 GMT.

Police said the person rescued from the lorry was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment while the other five people were treated at Wigan Infirmary.

But yeah, like Stylo said, all it takes is one douche bag weaving in and out of lanes to cause something like this.

It's the same for me whenever I go on the motorway. I'm forever having to suddenly slow down due to some guy cutting me up or some woman not paying attention to whats coming past and just pulling out into a lane. It's kind of scary we let people like this drive on the roads!

All it takes is one douche bag you say... but did you know 80% of people on the roadways are douchebags who don't obey the most basic traffic laws?

Okay maybe not in Britain, I don't know that for sure... but here in the states? Yes.

Almost nobody here in Dallas obeys the traffic laws as I observe. Rolling stops, 10-30 miles over the speed limit is the norm, people changing lines in the middle of the intersection, people in left turn only lanes going straight.

Country. I had a Taxi driver swaying and driving at 20mph in front of us indicating to go right, despite turning left 1/4 mile up the road. Turned out he was on the phone, and ignored the beep of the horns and the flashing of the lights as a warning. Obviously not the brightest crayon in the box.

Motorway...is that metric for highway? Wait isn't motorway what they call the nascar oval?

Yeah but our motorways sometimes curve to the right.

In Britain, any road open to the public can be referred to as a highway. We just don't use the word very often. We prefer road or motorway for large main roads with 3 lanes.

Speaking of crashes. I saw a minor rear end crash today, there were two fire trucks an ambulance and three police cars there.... They must have been bored.

A stone's throw away from me. I go past there every time I visit anywhere...

Sad.

Hmm, that never happens to me and I'm on a bike. I'm usually steadily overtaking everyone else and following at a large distance from the guy in front though so they don't really get much of an opportunity to cut me up.

There are lots of morons on the road though, that's for sure. My personal favourites are the retards who do 42.5mph *everywhere* (except when they need to panic brake down to 25 for the terrifying slight bend in the road ahead), beep you and make aggressive gestures when you buzz past them on roads that can happily support 60-100mph and then tailgate you all the way through towns and villages. Driving really has become a lost art. It's kind of like what consoles have done to gaming...
