Movies everyone loved that you didn't.

I think you guys just dont like them because a lot of other people do. Some of my friends are like that. I know someone who hates Napolean Dynamite and Anchorman... and has never seen it. You guys may have seen it, but hate it for the same reason. You dont need to be a non-conformist to be cool guys... its ok, i forgive you.

No... its more the fact that the movies I disliked were, in my opinion, not very good. I disliked Donnie Darko because I found it boring and not to my taste. I didn't dislike it because everyone says its ''omg so grate'' so I had to 'go agaisnt the grain' and dislike it, because I can brush of someones opinions easily. I don't need someone else to say it sucks or doesn't for me to like it. Yeah, sure, ALOT of people said to me that Donnie Darko was the most amazing film evaaaar, I just don't agree.

As for Memento, that too bored me. Yeah, the movie was done well n' all, but its not to my liking. (I am a fan of action films. My DVD shelf is, for the most part, made up of war films alone.) Again, someone said to me ''I enjoy this movie most because its non-linear'' - fine, thats your reason, go ahead and stand by it. Non-linear or not, I still found myself thinking ''Wow! What a waste of my 2 hours!'' afterwards.

I didn't like Donnie Darko or Napolean Dynamite.

i'll make sure to see the movies you hate cause my taste is the antithesis of yours.

Shaun - alright film

Spiderman - loved that movie

Bourne Identity: awesome film. ok, the second had some problems, but the first was bloody brilliant.

ok, i can understand why some people don't really get Darko, but Eternal sunshine or memento? those were some of the most brilliant pieces of filmmaking i've ever seen.

dfc05, and thebleeding you guys have bad taste in movies. period.

seriously, dfc05, give me some of your favorite films. i'm curious. it's probably something like The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley: The Case of the Christmas Caper.

you'd probably also hate one of my favorite films ever: Amelie.

Mars Attacks! - lots of people really seem to enjoy this movie. boring.

Nah I loved Amelie, and Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind. I probably relate better to Amelie than to any other film character..... I also liked Adaptation and American Beauty. I liked Gladiator a lot back when it came out, and it's got a beautiful soundtrack. I'll admit to still liking Land Before Time, but that's nostalgia, and that movie is slightly more mature than other animated movies (note the use of an orchestrated score by James Horner and the lack of random outbursts of singing :)).

As for Bourne Identity, I didn't hate the film. I just didn't think it was incredibly special. One of the things that tends to annoy me is how guys in films like this always tend to pick up a random girl and then they magically fall in love over the course of a few days. Always. Maybe I'm just bitter or something.

Same for Lord of the Rings. I didn't think it was a bad film, but getting near the end of that movie it just dragged on and on. It was like, "My gosh hurry up and throw the ring already." And then it ended. And ended again. But oh wait, it's not quite over yet! I never read the books though, and I hear the book has a whole epilogue full of long endings...

Spiderman... ehhh, I'm just not a fan. Maybe if I had read the comic books I'd like it better?

And if you really want to watch films I hate, try almost every "romantic comedy" ever. Have fun. :)

Anchorman...will ferrel is just...not that funny. I'm sorry, every will ferrel movie I see I am disgusted by it. However, I LOVED Steve Carrel in that movie. He kind of saved it for me.

Dodgeball...likewise stupid for the same reasons as anchorman.

Lord of the Rings...too long, too boring, too full of itself.

Pirates of the Carribean...one of the most overrated series of movies in my opinion.

You're taste is absolutely atrocious.

Each to their own. You'll probably find we agree on more movies than we disagree on. I didn't hate these movies btw, just didn't love them as much as many seem to (which is the point of the thread).

For what it's worth, I thought Old Boy was great fun untill the reason for his incarceration was revealed. Rather than a clever conclusion it seemed that the whole film was geared towards a cheap 'ergh' reaction from the audience. I was left feeling cheated out of a decent ending.

As for Eternal Sunshine, maybe I was just in the wrong mood for it (watched it late one evening after a few drinks), but it smacked of a teenage angst/looking for answers movie. Not clever or interesting, just boring.

Do you realize that Band of Brothers wouldn't be around if it weren't for Saving Private Ryan? Tom Hanks directed and produced that show, if I recall correctly. They use the same film stock, that same washed out grainy look, and yes, they even overuse that god awful shaky cam.

Sure. I found Private Ryan felt like an extended episode of BoB minus the human interest (which is what makes BoB really great) and with a silly plot. I enjoyed superb action sequences as much as the next man - but wouldn't watch the movie for any other reason.

I liked Boondock Saints. Suck my nuts.

Me too. I think the problem some people have with Boondock Saints is taking it too seriously. Accept that the acting is ropey at best and the plot could have been written by a 12 year old with a gun fetish and you're left with a silly/fun/violent/disposable popcorn movie.

Anyone who didn't find Willem Defoe rolling on the floor with his wig falling off and skirt around his hips amusing is already dead.

Teen angst looking for answers movie? Jim Carrey's in his 40s, Cate Blanchett 30 something. They're just looking for love.

You can't base a movie on its audience. Donnie Darko would be the most hated movie in existence as would the Nightmare Before Christmas.

We're getting our wires crossed. It struck me as the kind of movie that would appeal that kind of person. I should have been clearer. Anyhoo, I only watched it late one night and will have to give it a go again sometime.

what's wrong with Nightmare before Christmas? :sniper: that's right. nothing. great film.

dfc05, and thebleeding you guys have bad taste in movies. period.

Yes, so because I disliked 3 movies out of [insert stupidly high number of films in the world here] I have a bad taste. Out of this thread, you know a genre of films I like (I stated action earlier) and three films I disliked. And out of that, you have all the right to say my taste in films sucks, right?

I didn't like Donnie Darko either, god it was awful. Confusing and boring, didn't understand much. Maybe I didn't give it as much tought that it needs to understand it's pure awesome-ness but I just couldn't pay more attention. Or maybe it's me, I'm just stupid. Either way, I didn't enjoy it. Same thing with Mullholland Drive.

But best example of a movie everyone loved that I didn't is... SAW. Oh my God it was so shite!

The Godfather 1 & 2: When shall we schedule my flaming and brutal beating? The best explanation I can come up with for the former is that erm... it's a "man's" film, with male centric notions of family which I find disengaging. Yeah, you heard me, and I can't make sense of it either :P

2001: A Space Odyssey: Actually does "everyone" love this movie? It's always been considered a bit of a mystery to some, and there are many who never liked it. Regardless, I really quite like portions of this movie (probably the entire HAL section and even most of the bits which have some deep meaning I can't really fathom) but they are seperated from each other by about 2 hours of the rest of the movie (the second section is particuarly dull), which itself largely consists of people moving from Point A to Point B very, very slowly. As a precursor to modern sci-fi, and probably cinematography as a whole, it's an interesting watch, but I cannot fathom how anyone can adore it. To me it seems that 2001 is the extreme, cinematographic version of any ID Software game: an exciting collection of technical innovations and good ideas that everyone else later pinched and ended up making a far better product with.

Lord of the Rings: After initially being scared off by the fantasy stylings (Gimli inspires a phobia of dice and dungeon-masters within me) I braved all three movies and liked what I saw. Didn't love it in the least. Probably the most faithful book adapations ever made, in that they're nearly as unneccessarily verbose and lengthy as the books they come from.

Ghost in the Shell: As a token anime nut, here is my token anime dismissal. Time was when GitS was almost a synonym for what was so great about anime. To me, it's a synonym for time wasted with a woman who randomly takes her clothes off all the time and dryly discusses philosophical somethings with other wooden character manaquins before beating the shite out of some kind of human or machine or machine human. I enjoyed the series a hell of a lot more, because there was far less of all the above and some actual life in the characters.

The Italian Job: All of Britain appears to love this movie. It is utterly awful. I suspect that may be the point though :P

Probability says that someone, somewhere loves the US version of the Italian Job.

I was at a party years ago talking to this foxy lady - basically pretending to listen to get into her knickers - and the topic of movies came up. She spent the next hour or so talking about Bad Boys 2 and how it was her favourite ever movie. She knew everything there is to know about it, could quote every other line, and went on and on. I just got drunk and, to my suprise, listened with a bewildered fascination to every word. She was a complete mentalist, but went like a train ;)

One word: Crash (2005)

Everyone says this is the greatest movie theyve seen in a long time. The usual consensus being its like about how differents lives collide like cars... blah... I think it gets the best of peoples emotions about mostly prejudice issues. Still the movie runs pretty sloppy in my opinion. Though Ill admit it had its beautiful moments, but nothing more. It was just ok.

What an extraordinary little tale.

GOD. THANK YOU. I completely forgot about Crash.

I agree.

There has yet to be a Batman movies that does it for me. Begins was good, but not good enough. I guess I expect too much. Batman was my childhood hero.

Nightmare Before Christmas - ffs, every single goth/emo-like kid at my school worships this movie, they have the backpacks/shirts/hats/stickers/etc.
Sooo... I thought I'd check it out, only to see singing and dancing skeletons. :|

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - Curse fests ftl.
