In "SIGGRAPH 2003", Valve had held a presentation called "Making of Half-Life2" at the Softimage booth.
Japanese game site "4Gamer" had released the movies and articles on this presentation.
The articles are written in Japanese language, but the movies of the presentation are in English language.

the Alyx movie shows her walking limb (!) and making strange faces. it's cool. the wall movie is, well, just interesting...

Hmm.. quite interesting stuff.. the XSI normal map thing sounds quite easy.
 
wish i could watch them but my comp is so screwed i cant. all i can see is the lower left quarter magnified to take up the whole screen

Mind you, I'm still waiting for the dl... might take a nap while I wait. I thought this was why I upgraded to a 512 ADSL line.

Ah well, hope it's as cool as it sounds. But even if it were Alyx picking her nose for five minutes, I'd still probably be excited. Seems like forever since we've had anything really new.
 
I cant believe that wall that had fully workin light effects that shade the texture was only 1 POLY!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
Its a pity hl2 will have such limited use of normal maps =\ would look much better if every surface had a normal map applied like doom3 does.

they should atleast have normal maps on all character modles so they dont have to paint on details like wrinkles in cloths and shit liek that. It would look much better if the character textures didnt look so 2d.

HL2 is designed to support old hardware. That is why they aren't using it for everything.
 
They are both about 55mb.

Does anyone else think WickedEwok is related to BrassMonkey?
 
I have 512K and my speed is only 2.3k......... I am in the UK and I can download any file from Australia at 57.5K.......
 
The interview itself must be conducted in English, so 4Gamer should have original English text also.

Here's what I don't understand... why did Valve feel they needed to explain Normal Mapping to the audience at SIGGRAPH? Those are like, the last people you should have to explain basic graphics concepts to. I guess if it was a press demonstration though...
