Im only 17 but my dream is to live in US, i dont know but it's allways been my dream. I live in sweden now, but i really want to move there as soon as possible. but how do i get there i mean, do i really need to have a job thats makes its possible for me to move or could i just decide to move there and move ?

You will probably notice living in the US is A LOT more expensive than sweden in a few things, I suggest saving a lot of money before trying to move.

Ye i know i need alot of money, im not the guy who reads up on school for a 100%, but i really must get to the states. Is it possible just to move there without any proper reason ?
My friend said its only possible through the job or something :x

Well if you don't have a reason then why move?

Look...wait till you turn 18...trust me.I'm kinda doing the same thing....Get a job there in sweden and save up lots of money.Once or after you turn 18 then move to america and get a job and all that shit.

Get a visa, we'll welcome you with open arms.

honestly ...you're far too young ..you'll have a hard time getting any job that doesnt involve flipping burgers ...and that doesnt pay nowhere enough to be able to pay for rent etc ...unless that is you dont mind living in the dangerous part of town.

Not to mention that you havent exactly thought this through ...do you just expect to arrive at JFK airport and stroll into new york and start your new life? what about immigration? what about a work visa? you cant stay in the US without the proper documentation

No you're not to young...just wait till your 18, because you can't do much on your own here at 17.

Like say an apartment...you have to sign a contract, but you have to be 18 or older to sign a contract.See my point?

Also like stern said...think it through and plan ahead.

No i have'nt thought about it that much, because im not adult and i dont know alot about jobs, money etc. But that will come later. Of course i need a good job here first and save money. Then i could move to US. What state ? doesnt matter too much just somewhere near Florida would be great

North Carolina. Mountains AND beach within 3 hours, nice climate - doesn't get too hot or too cold most of the time, especially not too cold if you're from Sweden.

Then we can hang!

The trip from Coruscant to the US is going to be 'spensive as hell, though :X

If your tall blonde and have blue eyes and a Swedish accent the girls will love you. Probably the easiest way would be to get a student Visa. Get accepted to some crappy little college and have yourself a blast. I'd recommend the West Coast, but that's a long trip from Sweden.

yes he is too young ...seriously what company is going to pay a decent living wage to someone without an education? high school will only take you so far ...even if you do go to university, there's no guarentee that it'll transfer over. Too many engineers driving taxis in my city because they cant afford to take the equivilant courses here for certification

Woah, wait, wait. You live in Sweden and you want to live in the US? Crazy swedes.:p

Just work hard and plan ahead and you will make it dude.

that'll make all the difference in the world :)

anyways ..guys what's the rush to leave home? I just hope you understand that once you live on your own not having enough money to pay the bills will be a reality ..it's very hard to save money when paying rent

Yeah, America is very different, and not necessarily in a good way (there are plenty of great things here, but we're much more uptight than Europeans in general).

worst thing bout the US - cant drink til your 21! thats why im staying here for a while and when i hit 21 ill be off! :p

Yea...I know it won't be easy at all and I bet garfield does also.I'll probally end up having to work two jobs just to bearly get by.

But hey...we all lead different lives and we all have different experiences. Some people are more ready then others...

I agree, but parents are there to help you ..it's a tough world out there, the last thing you want is to make decisions because you have no other choice

Why would you want to move into the US? I have pretty much experience of it, it's nice to visit, but I would never want to live there.

I know US has its weak points, but it has some great too. Alot is different with american and europe, but if i could choose a place to live it would defenently be US.

My dad said he would help any way he can...so no worries.Anyways remember garfield...don't move here untill you saved up enough money, have everything planned, and when you're 18.

CptStern said:

Awwwww... :) Stern is like the dad of the forum. :p

Well it's garfield we/you should worry about...not me.I can make it on my own, but him...I dunno.

yes ...a dad who knows how to dish out pwnage :)

Im doing the same thing dude not long and Il be sitting in a plane moving away from ****** pussy Germany

Well for a start, moving to the US is not as easy as you seem to think it is. Firstly they probably wont accept you without tons of messing around unless you have a special talent that can benefit the country in some way (otherwise why would they let you live there and claim their benefits when you can't get even a regular burger flipping job?)

I know one guy who was waiting eight years to try be accepted

You'll probably need someone living out there who can sponsor you, vouch for you and so on.

You gotta screw around with your taxes in the US while the UK and other places its easier.

If you've got a criminal record, forget it.

You've got extra costs for health, no insurance and your boned.

Unless you've got a very well paid job waiting for you there, then your in for a world of trouble trying to move to the US, moreso now with the whole xenophobia the American's have for outsiders. I mean think of it from the US point of view.. why would they let someone else into the country, unless they have abilities that can benefit the country.. They wont let someone in just to work at Wendy's when one of the many unemployed in the country already can do the job just aswell.

Oh and if your moving there cause of some girl, forget it, no offence but she'll probably cheat on you and leave you stuck on the streets, never move to another country for a girl you've never met.

You could always marry into the country, but thats so not as simple as those movies make it look.

--

Seriously, I wouldn't bother if I were you, your only a kid and you have this twisted idea that the grass is greener over there, I can tell you its not, it might be a cool place to visit but even I don't live out there anymore and I own a house in LA. I'd rather live in the UK right now. Really, the things you've seen on TV make it look very cool but you don't see the rest of it.

a) you will not never be living in an apartment downtown with a bunch of "friends"

b) you wont meet the girl of your dreams at some art gallery in NY

c) lawyers don't pretend they hear music and have crazy adventures.

Trust me I do...I don't do things not unless I know things will work out and if it's worth walking through hell and back.

I believe it is...when I set my mind on something I do it.Garfield just be prepared to go the distance...you'll have it worse then I will.

Edit: Oh and thanks for the smart comment stern. :)

well I hope you do well ..oh and no need to thank me, it's the truth ;)

TDE ...you really should participate in more political debates ...there's a certain level-headedness about you ...some great points, kudos

I.T. software development? engineering?

Also what are house prices and apartments like?

House prices aren't so bad, generally you can get a larger home in the US for the same price of a small flat in the UK. But then there's the location, often worse. For a decent place suddenly the costs spiral, whereas they are less steep in the UK.

Government related work and experience is the best bet for getting into the country quickly. A friend of ours used to record radio broadcasts or something for years and archive them, the US government hired him for a similar archiving job or something, they moved within weeks, without that they probably wouldn't have moved atall.

So the more unique and profitable it is, the better the chance of getting in on just that.. If someone says "oh hey, I don't really have any talents, but I want to move there and then look for a job" they probably wont be accepted. But if someone has experience in a line of work that can benefit the country in some way, be it entertainment, or military or something else, and there's already a job offered to them, they'll have an easier time getting in.

And CG related work is _not_ a good line of work to try this with neither. Since most CG related jobs are short six to twelve month contracts, its harder to prove you can continue to benefit the country, for all they know you could work for 12 months, then be on the social for the next 5 years.

So really there's a lot of planning involved, moving to any country to live, actually live there as a citizen of that country, is a long drawn out process. The only time its ever been really easy was when hundreds of British moved to Australia 30ish years ago, there was an insentive to move over, lots of job oppertunities and so on. The US however probably doesn't need you, so you have to prove to them they do need you.

It would be in his best interests, if he's still wanting to do this in another five years, to then save up and go over for a year only, not apply for citizenship, just live over there on a work permit for a few months and see how things go, on his own and with nobody to fall back on, how it would be if he ever got over there, and see how he copes.. no offence to the guy but I don't think he'd last very long as I don't think he's planned any of it out, or realises just how expensive the cost of living is in the US (sure, cheaper houses for the most part, but through in everything else and its suddenly more expensive)

Holy crap, someone from Sweden wants to live in Florida with me?? We could be like the incredible genius photoshop duo! But wow, someone wants to move to THIS crappy country? Sure it's rich and all, but you can't exactly buy some money tree seeds and plant them in your backyard. Life for an individual with no money here sucks, stay in Sweden you tard. And better yet, sponsor ME to go to Sweden, I can't wait to get out of this hot blistering weather. They aren't kidding when they say it's a "sunshine state". Stay in Sweden. STAY IN SVEEEEDAAANN

yeah, no, seriously, don't move to america, sweden is fantastic, stay in sweden, unless you really really REALLY want to move to north america, move to Canada, it's nice and warm on the west coast, unless you like the cold, in which case move to the west coast, because we get that too. oh, and if you like trees, then move to the west coast as well, we have all of those, and rivers too. unless you want to live in like a big city with skyscrapers and stuff, then you would want to move to the west coast, yeah.

don't move to america, really, they dont want you, and it smells funny. move to Canada, we like the swedish.

Dude, you should really think this through first. I mean, seriously.

Coming to the US without money is like going to a whore house without a condom. Wait.
