Music: Rate and Discuss

pulled apart by horses are ridiculously good fun live. i don't really like the album much (high five, swan dive, nose dive is great, though) but they really are a treat on stage.

So very colourful, I love it. Rustie is glaswegian as well, nice bit of trivia there.

Personally, I find Rustie's new stuff fits way too easily in with the whole wonky/hip-hop crowd of those producers that all make pretty okay music that all sounds the damn same (Hudson Mohawke, Mono/Poly, etc.). These days it's really all just bleepy cheerful out-of-time beats.

Whereas his older stuff was bewildering, massive, floor-destroying basslines.

I discussed my predilection for ducks, as realised by the song. There is not much else to say on the subject without breaching forum conduct regarding explicit sexual exposition.

I also like the song, if that helps.

fukpig - necropunk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgnDmfL3lH8

fukpig is horribly dirty, disgustingly crusty d-beat from near my home city, birmingham. it's raw, visceral aggro hardcore in the shape of three miserable ****ish bastards creating wonderfully apocalyptic-paced grind about bombs, war and shitty britain. possibly the best crust to come out of the UK right now and a killer live band to boot.

For some ridiculous contrast (hey Antipop I actually kind of liked that, I would listen to it again if it had no vocals and more bass and I think 270 bpm might be a bit too fast???) here is some new James Blake (UK UK UK)

As a friend said, his stuff is moving further and further away from something that could be dropped in a club and towards music to listen to late at night when you're at home and everything seems alright. This is taken from his Klavierwerke EP, a much more piano/vocal focused release. I've been rinsing this EP over the last few weeks, it's got an impetus and momentum that is great for working to, but a restrained, minimal aesthetic which ensures it never gets in the way. One of his most interesting releases to date, I'd say. Sub-bass, fuzz, clicks and piano chords (all the vocals are his own, as well!)

remove... the... things that make it... d-beat?

it's crust punk man

proper mastered version (lp) has a lot more bass though. they have an amazing low end sludgy tone going on

Ancestors - Of Sound Mind (2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T85RXBwZ3I
(an excerpt, since the songs didn't originally fit on Youtube)

~15 minute songs separated by a ~2 minute little something. I could listen to this album every day. And lately, I do. As long as they are, there is quite a bit of variety in the songs, and those who listen to the entire songs will be rewarded.

Very smooth album, definitely one you would listen to from beginning to end when you have plenty of time. I didn't know which song to post because they are all good. They've got... not a mind blowing sound, just a mind expanding one.

La Roux - Armour Love

Their influences may be retro, but La Roux uses them as the starting point for something fresh. Worth a listen. Album is quite solid.

Teen Daze - Four More Years

Another newly discovered indie band I've stumbled upon. I found this artist on the podcast Indie spotlight, and was intrigued by what the album had to offer. There is a nice mix of chill and upbeat dance tracks to get you through your day. Whether you want to call the music dream pop, shoegaze, synth pop, or chillwave, Teen Daze is surely an act to keep your eye on.

Today I was all like "Man I need some more music. Post rock really is dead..."
So I dug through some old files and realized, I had tons of amazing soundtrack music I haven't listened to in a long time.

Man I forgot how good this one is:

which also reminds me of this:

Oh man. It's been a long time since I watched October Sky. :(

All the movies about space (or rockets, close enough) and dinosaurs get the best soundtracks.

Hm, haven't posted in this thread recently. Only looked a few pages back but props to Laura Marling and Beach House. I saw Marling earlier in the year and she was amazing but it was a woefully short set :( Going to see Beach House next year along with Deerhunter, Foals, Cut Copy and Warpaint. It's going to be a pretty amazing start to the musical year.

Recently discovered Toro Y Moi, who has some very well produced, chilled out but ultimately catchy music.

For the past few months I've also been listening to a dangerously high amount of Foals. Their new album is a stunning departure from their old dance (but atmospheric) math rock. Here's probably the standout track:

If you've heard Weird Fishes by Radiohead this song is quite similar with the same watery guitars lines:

The Walkmen -- the entire You & Me album

Mmmmm. So good. Esp when you've been at work for over 13 hours and you are waiting for your sample to finish spinning down and that coffee you had with dinner is wearing off and you are getting very very sleepy but you know you've got to stay awake otherwise you will have to spend 2 more hours re-spinning down your sample and so you need something nice and upbeat-ish to listen to, for your sanity.

Also, it has this on it:
