Just watched the IGN video review again, and I am so hyped for this game. Cba to download it via Steam though since it seems hella sluggish, so I'll prolly pick this one up after work tomorrow. Did anyone get it yet?

Tempted to pick this up, but I've never played any of the previous Total War games before. Might try the demo out soon.

Whats the naval combat like?

love Total War
enjoyed the demo
naval battles are very cool, especially since you can manually control which way the ship rotates and how and when it fires (if you want)
i know i'll be getting this eventually; i just have way too many good games to play atm so.. no time and depleting funds :p

Why did it run like shit on my computer!?

Crysis ran better than it did!

Rome: Total War was awesome, a dream come true. Not so hot for 1700's history, but I'm sure some people are interested.

TBH despite the flaws that this game shares with its predecessors(poor AI for example, both in battle and campaign), it's worth it if only for the naval module, it's hilarious watching your soldiers board another ship, they're all like "YARR MATEYS, WE BE TAKIN' THIS HERE SHIP FOR WE BE CUTTHROATS!" and the other guys are all like "OH NOOOOO!!:(:("

Preordered and played the demo, thought it was full of flaws... Naval battles awkward, they ignore commands and tedious to play. Asked for refund.

Had big hopes for the game. Even if I did enjoy it, I could see it wearing off much quicker than Rome.

I will get this shortly.
Also with my superior command my redcoats will take over the world.

And then slowly have their empire crumble and their misuse of words like "crisp" and "chips" and "biscuit" mocked!

Muahaha!

Muahaha!

No that's YOU!

My language is older than your country therefore : BUUURRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Edit: Actually we may overuse the word biscuit, especially for non biscuit related consumables. BUT AT LEAST WE KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BISCUIT AND A COOKIE!!!

Started a campaign as the mighty British earlier and **** me is it overwhelming. The new campaign map is just awesome. I probably spent half an hour just looking at all the new stuff before I even took my first turn. It's absolutely massive!

This game is conflicting. I want to destroy the Imperialist British scum, but on the other hand I know a large proportion of their troops are Irish. What to do, what to do? :p

attack their potato supplies.

The topic title made me think of Butlins.

Hah. A couple of friends of mine downloaded a pirated version to check it out and they can't even play LAN games. Steam-pwned :D
They'll probably end up buying it anyway though, they usually do with games that they actually like playing.

Mine downloaded but I have got a very wierd glitch, whereby all the soldier models appear to be blank, fully red men running around, no idea why.

Question:
Just bought the game in the shop. Put the 1st DVD in my computer, started the installation process, Steam started up automatically and now the game is .... downloading. What the hell? At the rate that is going I can play the game in about 12 hours. Why can't I just use the data on the discs? Any ideas?

Is it just downloading some files from Steam for verification or the entire game?

The entire fecking game. While the game came with two discs containing all the data. This is bullshit.
/rages

The irony of naming a hi-tech 21st century software distribution system after a slow, inneficient, long redundant form of power. Oh the irony. :|

You're redundant.

I hate the way you guys use that word.

Anyone know if theres a way to get out of the ships to fight on land without going to port? Im doing the intro campaign and have to take over this french village. It asks me to build ships to take my army but theres no bloody way of getting them out once there.. grr

I'm playing the Grand Campaign as the British, just kicked the French out of Canada then native Americans pinched my undefended settlements :(.

That happened to my friend, he stopped the download then re-inserted the disk, the game asked if he wanted to reinstall and it started to install off of the disk. Hope this helps :)

I bought the game today too, pretty overwhelming and I dunno what to do xD So I'm gonna do the campaign before a I do one of the bigger campaigns.

Ren, you are a prince among men. That did the trick. It's installing from the discs atm.

Playing the Brits is tough man. :(

Spent the first few turns fighting some pirates with the Dutchies in the Carribean, and upgrading farms and general infrastructure. Researched some military tech and shipped off an army to America to take care of the natives there, only for Spain to declare war on Portugal dragging me into a conflict with the Spanish and French.

It's gonna be hard keeping track of everything on both sides of the atlantic.

You're redundant.

Actually, I am, but soon to be self employed.

I hate the way you guys use that word.

Who are you talking about, the English? using an English word? an English word that was in use for over half a century before your country was even discovered? the bare faced cheek of us.

Make up your own language and stop stealing ours. Ye want Red Coats to shoot at? here I be ye treacherous colonials, damn your eyes

HEY WE CANADIANS USE PROPER ENGRISH!!! not all colonials were upstarts who thumbed their noses at queen and country.

anyways I havent played a rts in years ..so how does Total War compare to say Myth2?

Myth 2? blimey, that's an old 'un... exploding wights were awesome.

Total War is a lot... biggerer. I would say it is the most evolved and involving rts around. Takes a while to get into as there is so much to do, but if you like Chess and Risk you'll love Total War. Once you know how the game works (kind of a tactical board game with epic battles - just think Battlechess on a global scale) you can dip in for an hour here and an hour there as the campaign is turn based, ideal for you family guys. Surprised you haven't tried it already, actually. MTW2 is still the finest of the lot imo, so if you want a good introduction to the series, check it oot.

The map is .... mind boggling. I fired up a campaign after toying around with RtI for a bit and for the first 10 or 15 minutes I was just traversing The Map. There are actually four maps, but when scrolling they're basically seamless. It is indeed a bit overwhelming; there's literally half the world to conquer. I'll gladly sink my teeth into it though. The game plays a bit different than the earlier TW's but the basics are more or less the same. I'll start out properly as the Dutch tomorrow, short campaign, to get a real feel for this monster.

This certainly is not the first Total War game you should try, Stern, but you owe it to yourself as a gamer to play MTW2 like CR0M said, or even Rome. It's one of the best series exclusive to PC.

I just downloaded the demo and will probably try it out soon. I have Total War: Gold that I bought from Steam during the 10-75% off sale. i love strategy games because they challenge me the most

Actually, I am, but soon to be self employed.

The phrase, "made redundant" has been in use for far less time than our country was founded. You're corrupting your own language.

Don't forget... our country was founded by people branching off away from you. We became better, stronger!

Downloading this from Steam right now. I can't wait until I can not only steamroll you monarchist scum in the Revolution but push onward and crush all of you beneath my iron heel. The only problem is I have a paper to write tonight so I can't play it at all :(
