sadly i would have to agree. ;(

Hey, the video game industry is the only one where employees get paid to play! : )

omg, if he joined my server he would get banned if he diddnt answer my questions.

Why didn't you lag him with the same message over and over again, I would've laughed my ass off. Maybe something like:

alb1221: WHERE THE F*CK IS MY HL2
alb1221: WHERE THE F*CK IS MY HL2
alb1221: WHERE THE F*CK IS MY HL2

he could have at least answered respectibly. with a "i cant comment" or "its unclear at this time" then follow with a nicely put way of saying he'd just like to play right now. no need to be rude. i am loosing respect for Valve quicker then Oprah lost wieght.

How is that so rude? It's not like he said "STFU n00b" or anything like that. If anyone outside of a developer said what John said it would be considered normal. Just because he works for Valve it doesn't mean he has to keep his PR persona up 24/7.

Oh, and BTW alb, how long had that conversation been going on? Judging by the scrollbar there's a bit above. Were you nagging him for a while? You should pull something like Munro's Doug Lombardi disguise, heh  .

oh no, he was too busy for a random CS player... quick, lynching time.

before that I had invited him to play in tha cs server

we were trying to populate so I steam im'd all my friends list lol

he ssaid he was busy and I said oh sorry and asked if he was john the valve employee he said yes.,... then that happened ;( :p... he did say he was busy......but busy playing a game??... lol...... and I didnt know it was the valve emp. at first

The easiest way to get real information is to undertake in some social engineering.

I think someone already did it to a Valve employee and he revealed information about the possibility of steam implementing peer-peer downloading to ease the burden on the content servers.

If your an outright random asking about HL2 release dates the chance of anything actually getting revealed are pretty slim. You probably shouldn't have bothered :) You could have at least said

"Hey it's Gabe here, so we're on for a March 2004 release date then?"

then JohnC says

"Yeah, it looks like we'll be finished mid Feb"

"Oh crapp!! YOUR JUST SOME PUNK KID!! DAMMN HOW DID I FALL FOR THAT?! !"

Come on, they're bound to slip up one day :)

lmfao!!! dude that had my belly laughin ahahhaha DAMN I JUST GAVE THAT INFO TO SOME PUNKASS KD ahaahahaha :afro: ;( cryin of teh laughter

omfg llol I found him on later at 4am (didnt think he would be busy) and said sorry about before and he goes

JohnC.: Argh, Again

wow, I cant seem to do anything right...

no screenie I x'd it on accident but I swear on my life its true

this is his profile in the valve site... I researched what exactly he does...

John Cook - Online Development Manager
Formerly of Team Fortress software, John manages online platform development for Team Fortress 2 and other projects. Before that, John studied computer science at RMIT in Australia. John is apparently still suffering jetlag from the move to Seattle, as he doesn't seem to be able to make it in to work until past noon.

lol just leave him alone, if I was a game developer I wouldn't be half as nice.

Yeah, it was really confusing when they said "The game is delayed". Damn confusing liars.

Haha Mr fusion :D someone should try that to see if it works :D

You're alb! The one who was banned!

Anyway, I try to keep my distance from Valve employees on Steam. They are always playing a game and they get angry at you.

Because people might flame him/question the mods why they let him come back... i think.

that was kindof rude.....what john C said.....he could at least say depends....
how did u get him on your list....i cant get the valve people on my list...they dont accept me...lol

99% of "valve employees" are actually fake accounts set up by other people. I wouldn't even bother attempting to talk to them.

...,who made a nice post up there

Yeah, these people deserve privacy too

Heh, I swear I read "piracy"

I would say the likelihood of that being an actual valve employee is in the same ballpark as having 14 meteors fall from the sky simultaneously and hit my keyboard in just such a way that it spells out: "mmm pistol whip" right before I die.

lmao. I've never used steam, doesn't it say "valve employee" or something?

Yeah, that's very true, Doug Lombardi. :D

update: not the real JohnC... confirmed... haha this dudes last name was chaffin...

haha we should all still pretend he's a valve employee... like 15 of us message us all different HL2 release date questions at once... he'll like implode and die
