My parents were middle management so most everybody below them was SOL.Innervision961 said:I have been laid off before, shit happens, at least his parents lay off was for the better of all of us. Me, i've been laid off so cheap mexican laborers could do my job for half the price. And no, I didn't recieve a "sweet" severence package (which technically, if they received severance, they were fired, not laid off). But in his case, lets add this upp"
- parents lose job for betterment of enviroment and overall health and well being of the people of this country/the world
- parents recieve sev. package and family moves to better, nicer place
Ummm, why not rejoice?
Also when the plant shut down, the mine that provided the coal slurry shut down too (it's on the other side of Arizona) so that's 250 workers there that were laid off early 2006. Most of the workers at the plant were already laid off because it is inoperative (it's having all the work done to it) now the remaining management was laid off and corporate officers from Southern California are moving into the offices temporarily to oversee operations.
This is a pretty large plant too so that devastates the local job market pretty much. My family's lucky, a lot of others aren't, so overaallll, it's not good. For US it is though. It would've been good to stay too, though- they were guaranteed an acceptable situation either way it went.
Edit: JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES, IT SO HAPPENS THAT THE MINE IS NAMED "BLACK MESA"
