My Parents Just Got Laid Off

I have been laid off before, shit happens, at least his parents lay off was for the better of all of us. Me, i've been laid off so cheap mexican laborers could do my job for half the price. And no, I didn't recieve a "sweet" severence package (which technically, if they received severance, they were fired, not laid off). But in his case, lets add this upp"

- parents lose job for betterment of enviroment and overall health and well being of the people of this country/the world

- parents recieve sev. package and family moves to better, nicer place

Ummm, why not rejoice?
My parents were middle management so most everybody below them was SOL.

Also when the plant shut down, the mine that provided the coal slurry shut down too (it's on the other side of Arizona) so that's 250 workers there that were laid off early 2006. Most of the workers at the plant were already laid off because it is inoperative (it's having all the work done to it) now the remaining management was laid off and corporate officers from Southern California are moving into the offices temporarily to oversee operations.

This is a pretty large plant too so that devastates the local job market pretty much. My family's lucky, a lot of others aren't, so overaallll, it's not good. For US it is though. It would've been good to stay too, though- they were guaranteed an acceptable situation either way it went.

Edit: JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES, IT SO HAPPENS THAT THE MINE IS NAMED "BLACK MESA"

Not everyone moves out of their parents house at age 16/17

Yeeeeeees, we've already established that I thought Rak was older than he is. Read the rest of the posts before posting. Sheesh.

LOL

Due to the Sierra Club's lawsuits and other leftists Mohave Generating Station (power plant) had to lay off everyone and start a giant project to retrofit the stack with scrubbers and revamp the whole place. It's a coal fired plant that is completely unique so it's an even more expensive project. This plant supplies California with a good portion of electricity and it was shut down cause "makes smog over the grand canyon!!!" LOL GOOD JOB RETARDS ENJOY YOUR ROLLING BLACKOUTS LATER THIS SUMMER.

However, now we can move out of this shithole Golden Valley and into the MAIN city of Kingman, Arizona into a 2300sq foot house we just got the loan for due to sweet severence package.

Laid off = Good news? APPARANTLY. LOL.
Your new found use of "LOL" is frightening and disturbing. Please cease and desist immediately.

They just announced now after laying off everyone that they're not going to even refurbish the plant. Costs too much money. Now it won't EVER turn back on. Sorry Cali.

News just hit the wire, it's a really big deal here:

http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/0620biz-mohave0620.html

The Mohave plant has stirred controversy in northern Arizona communities for years because it lacks the types of pollution controls, or scrubbers, installed in more modern coal plants.

In 1999, environmental groups won a consent decree that required the plant to install pollution controls. Since then, Environmental Protection Agency records show that Mohave has emitted more than 240,000 tons of sulfur dioxide and 120,000 tons of nitrogen oxide.

Yet the plant also was a source of hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars to depressed economic areas of the state.

Among those receiving pinks slips as a result of Mohave's closing are employees at the Black Mesa Mine on the Navajo Reservation, which supplied coal to Mohave, and Peabody Energy Co., which excavated and sent the coal to the mine.

A lot of my friends parents also lost their jobs and didn't have the benefits mine did.

I have a question: Are power plants in America corporate-owned? And are these people insane?

The groups that made the plant shut down.

And I think that a corporate-owned power plant isn't a good idea. Electricity = public service/infrastructure, Corporation profits =/= public services.

If governments run power plants like they run countries his parents would have been laid off ages ago.

Well, at least they didn't die in a Resonance Cascade.

Congratulations (hey, congratulating people on bad tidings seems to be the new fad), and good luck!

Also, my house just burnt down! Congratulations to me!
