Let's say that I moved to the U.S. and is old enough to join the army.
If I wanted to join the Navy Seals, can I only join if I am American, or do they let Asian people who live in the U.S. join?

They'd let you join in a heartbeat. But you have to be an American citizen....which I belive takes about 5 minutes and cost $1.99, or something like that.

Rofl yea, like what is it literally though 5 or 10 years or something to acquire citizenship? Or be born in the US or whatever.. dunno their is a ton of immigration laws and you have to be a citizen to be a seal I believe.

edit- also you have to be a hella good swimmer and physical condition as well as being older tredoslop, rofl.

If you can get in the country legally, I think citizenship is easily attainable.

when i was in the navy, there were some people in it just to get citizenship. evidently if you serve a term in the military you are then considered an american. but you can't be an illegal alien. I'm not sure how it works really, but I was friends with two guys who were doing it that way.

I plan to join the Navy Seals after I graduate from college.
What's the pay for the navy seals? Is it good?

Just so you know I know theres an outragously high drop-out-rate for the training like 90% or so. To join the SEALS you have to join the Navy first. And I dont know what the pay is , but it shouldnt matter. If you want to join the SEALS you arent there for the Money.

Well, if I said that I wanted to help protect North America against terrorists, you'd just laugh, but it's true.

You don't have to go to college to become a Navy seal. But you have to be in top physical shape or else there is no point in even trying.

If you want a military career, I suggest going to a military school instead and becomming a commissioned officer. The training is much easier and pay is better.

EDIT: You'll also have shot at being promoted to a high rank - i.e. a general, which enlisted soldiers don't have.

To be a warrior. If it wasnt for my health id have seriously considered joining some branch of the Armed Forces. Id probably have gone Army and then tried to get into Delta Force , im not too much of a swimmer lol.

I know exactally why he wants to join. I feel the same. :)

there are different pay grades in the military. they go from E-1 to E-9 for enlisted people (read:non-officers). most people start out at E-1 and have made E-2 by 6 months and then E-3 a year after that. But seals start out at E-3 and you can move up quickly. I reccomend either becoming an Officer (you'll be set for life when it comes to looking for a job outside the Navy) or trying to get into the nuke school. I was a nuke. You go to school for 2 years and get almost everything you need for a BS in nuclear engineering, then you're in the fleet for another 4 years. Within 3 years most have made E-5 or E-6 (as long as you apply yourself in school) while everyone else is trying to get thier E-4 at the same time period. Being a nuke is very cool. You have top secret clearance and get to learn quite a bit of cool stuff that other people will never know for years to come. But you get that same thing with being a SEAL (even more so, really). But I don't think being a SEAL is really your best option. But that's just my opinion.

If you enter the military with a college education you're automatically an officer.

Why do you want to join so much?

Well, the reason isn't that I think it's cool, even though it is cool, I just want to help North American(Canada and the U.S.). If I wanted a job that was cool, I'd join Epic Games, but , I wanted to join after what happened in 9/11.

I'd rather join the Army and become a Green Bret or become a M1A2 tank commander.

This is more true than most people think. If you see a SEAL you're looking at someone who went through hell and back before he even got his first real orders. They have to go through boot camp like everyone else, and then several months of a MUCH harder bootcamp. and then another year to two years of even harder training (depending on what you're specializing in). I know a guy who broke his leg while he was in a training course and he had to crawl his way to the finish line. And a training course there is fuc|<ing crazy. You really have no idea until you see these things.

Not true. You can still become an enlisted person. It's not that common but you can still do it.

I would be a Navy SEAL but I am 13 and I am a puny little twit. I really need to get in shape *sighs*. Tred read some books about them that is what I did. Also you have to have perfect eyesight(which I don't have).
And you have to be smart. Most people who are full-fledged Navy SEALs graduated from th Naval Acadamey in Annapolis, Maryland. And if you don't pass the many tests that you have to have in the BUD/s training you fail the training and have to wait years before you can try again.
Also I think you have to be in the Armed Forces in the U.S. already to be in the SEALs. You can't just walk up from the streets.

Navy SEALS eh? Sounds like too physical work for me... I prefer to fiddle with radios instead *puts on Royal Signals beret while sitting in his computer chair looking like a prat*

You can sign up for SEALs, but you have to pass physical tests, and then even more tests while in bootcamp. They have to get up an hour before everyone else (on thier own with no alarm clocks or anything) and then they go to run/swim thier collective asses off and meet up with the division for morning chow. I couldn't have done that because you're so sleep deprived anayway....ugh.

Come on Tredoslop why don't you join the Canadian military? I mean our muskets and pitchforks are about as advanced as you can get. :p

Seriously though, I would prefer joining the JTF 2 over the SEAL's. Thats just personal preference though. I mean I love swimming and I have my bronze cross and all but I would still prefer a more land based unit.

JTF 2 info from CBC:

i was training for 6months to become a navy seal. swimming is a very large part. u have to be a fish and run forever.

take a look at this site. see if u can do anything close to that.

I'm canadian (half canadian half british, ah my brit mother) and a freind of mine is joining the marines, I live in the U.S. and it takes 7 years to become a citizen unless you take a test

I wont be joining though

Edit: Left out that he wanted me to join -- now it makes sense

Well, my High-School made us do a fitness test, I can do 25 push-ups non-stop in 1 minute, not sure if that's good.
The sit-ups ,I guess I'll have no problem, but the push-ups?
42 in 2 minutes, not good for me:(

You should probably take a fitness course in highschool. The school I go to has a decent weight room and a phys-ed course starting in the second year of highschool where you work out everday in the weight room. It builds the muscles up fast.

Why bother, if you join the seals you'll be fit in less than 2 weeks.

I would rather be a Ranger. But that's me. SEALS are more covert, Rangers are the elite of the infantry. They are the masters of the raid, ambushes, etc. Just as tough, but the sword as compared to the scalpel. Ironically enough, Ranger training is more intense than green beret training, but rangers are not technically considered special forces.

Oh ya you'd be fit alright. After you get out the hospital that is. :p

in the young marines (a program for youth in western united states[ages 8-18] ) physical fitness was a big part. the strongest ones usually above 13 did around 40-50 push ups in two minutes. the drill iunstructors, like myself, did a perfect 60 and usually got up to around 80-90. most i got in 2 mintues was 84. but that was a year ago. i am now since out (honarable discharge mind u). i attand the rank of First Sergeant (E-8) and if i enlisted in the marines i would be and E-2 right out of boot.

wieghts help but use mostly your own body wieght. u need to be agile and not bulky or fat with muscles. push-ups running and swimming are the best things to do.

EDIT: focus on sets of 15, atleast 3 or 4. then as u start to build up go to 20 then 25 and so on. then add more sets. i cant stress enough how important swimming is. it works out all the little muscles u never knew u had. i guarantee that after 30 minutes of consistant good pased speed will make u want to throw up, eat, and go to bed.

oh another edit. after training for a good week or two ull want to stop and take a break...dont, u should work out with a friend that rivals your own strength, motivate each other, push each other.

Hope your joking. If you cant pass the tests you have to take to get in than wtf. It takes actual training and preparation not just "o well ill do it when i join" thats retarded. But if you wanna prepare for it like i am id say run a few miles a day and everyday push yourself harder and do whatever else you can find. Im in Jeet Kune Do we do tons of stuff for cardio. Hell ive gone to some of the seminars and theres this routine it kicks your ass bad. What we do is go and jog maybe 3-5 miles on a beach then when we get back we do this kicking exercise. The name escapes me but one person holds the thai pads while the other kicks the kicks go 1-1 on left then switch positions and 1-1 on right. Then you immediately go 2-2 on left twice 2-2 on right twice all the way up to 25 so thats 25-25 25 times each leg on the last round. Man and we do it in this hot ass gym, people are all throwing up and passing out. Its pretty crazy.:x . If you wanna build up muscle fast go with static contraction (not isometric) regular weight training is good but if you lift everyday like someone suggested youll wear yourself out over time and your body wont be able to recover enough to build the muscle to its maximum.

I had a friend in the young marine program he was a instructor i believe or a assistant. Lol he used to always tell me stories of him yelling at the little kidies.

yea the young marines was fun. i trained 5 recruit classes and 4 instructors, i even out ranked the drill instructor that trained me :p

the thing i liked the most about it was the camps they send you to. i went to mountain warfare training center, camp pendleton san diego recruit depot 3 leadership schools and went to scuba school. the camps get u in hella good shape too. it was fun im glad i did it, i yelled at young men and they tell me, GAWD DAMN GOOD JOB SON, UHHRAH!!

lol
