I currently own a Dell 2005FPW which has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. Which is a 16:10 ratio (divide 1680 by 1050), however in hl2, the 16/10 ratio is greyed out so i cannot select it? :( This must have some reasonable explanation and i figured this place could figure out the answer if any place could. The monitors refresh rate is 60HZ @ 1680 x 1050, and is 60Hz at 1600 x 900 (which i play at) so i figured that would not make a difference. I really need your help. Any nVidia owners out there, running half life 2 on a Dell 2005FPW! If not do you still know whats wrong??????

I wish I had that monitor. See if you can set the refresh rate higher, it should hit at LEAST 75HZ. You could try to create a custom resolution with the drivers (http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=59852). I also saw this on another site "I installed the dell .inf file from the CD that came with my 2005fpw.

In HL2, there is a 1280x768 resolution that is 16:10, and it looks just fine, not stretched at all. There is an option in the OSD for scaling that says aspect ratio or whatever, I always have that one set."

sorry but i must ask, what is osd? Cause i didn't see the option in the video and i dont think osd is the command console.

any solution to this? I've searched all over the internet and can't find anything. I'm using a a 22" 1680x1050 Samsung 225BW and can only choose 1600x900 for widescreen. This is extremely irritating, the game supports widescreen but won't let me choose the native resolution... I know others are using it with 100% success. Argh.

I'm using DVI, the vid card is a 7800GTX with latest Nvidia WHQL drivers.

BAH! I just figured it out... drivers. The monitor drivers i received with the bundled disc apparently didn't "officially" support 1680x1080 even though I can select it from Display properties.. I realized this by going into Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Monitor, then ticked the "Hide settings this monotor cannot support" and it defaulted to 1600 x 900.

Bingo.

This would explain why FEAR wouldn't register 1680x1050 either. Dammit, stupid drivers.

So I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's website and it, strangely enough, says v1.0 but the install screen was a bit different. Anyhoo, it works perfectly.

M1CH43L,
If you haven't found a real fix yet, try searching Dell's website for updated drivers. If that turns up nothing, try installing these drivers manually as the resolutions are undoubtedly the same. You can find them on Samsung's website under support, the monitor I'm using is the 225BW. If they don't work you can reinstate the drivers you were using already. couldn't hurt.
