Tell the FCC to support what President Obama promised before he was elected. Support Net Neutrality.

This is our last chance to stand up against the millions of dollars of Comcast and the others who pay people to support them.
Will the Internet remain in the hands of users? Or will a few phone and cable companies decide which Web sites you can and can't see?
Today is the deadline.

I never bothered to research it, but what is net neutrality? I always assumed it was an uncensored internet but I'm more then likely wrong..

You're not granted access to the internet by a simple bill but you're going to have to pay for different things on the internet. So if you had many commitments on the internet (facebook, gmail, Ebay, Amazon, Myspace, etc) you're going to pay for each one in a separate fee. So what ends up for be a low fee could quite end up to be ten times that. Net nuetrality wants to keep the internet free as to say, by allowing the ISP's to grant access to the internet with ease, like it is now.

Basically what the phone/internet giants (Comcast, AT&T, etc) are trying to do is to monopolize internet access. Their plan is basically to set up a package system, where you pay a 20 dollar per month fee for access to packaged parts of the internet (like a "News Package", or a "Social Package" etc) and then they will charge you assloads of money for access to niche sites like, say, halflife2.net, blogs, personal portfolio sites, etc. It will absolutely suck because you'll be paying hundreds a month for the same internet access you get today.

Protect Net Neutrality and ****ing write a letter. Shit, the letter is written for you, just sign your name and send it. Its important, and not at all an effort in vain because we've won several battles against AT&T and Comcast already. Just let the people in charge know that we care enough about the internet to not want to pay hundreds of dollars for the same access we already have now, at decent and competitive prices.

BLARGH!!!*?*?!=?!=" vote for it now you lazy ducks!

Seriously do it, i will mean the end of the usable internet if you don't.

I would if i could (not american). But i know the effect will spread if that is allowed to be canceled.

edit: **** it...from now on i'm John Splitzmaker, Oquirrh 233z, Salt Lake city 84084, Utah

****ers

Edit: done

From what I've read this doesn't affect Great Britain at all.

So big LOLZ to all of you.

God damn it you're a dumbass...i don't know if you've checked but there are greedy ISP also in the UK and most western countries. They just need an excuse to get on the bandwagon.

Pulse, unless you were joking, I'm going to side with Jverne on this one. What you said was stupid.

No jverne; you are the dumbass.

You're both dumbasses. This will put tons of websites out of buisness due to a massive drop in hits. If any niche site you like is visited regularly by americans, then almost all of those unique hits will disappear, which may make hosting the site or producing content for it impossible to finance. Basically it will be lights out for HL2.net and other similar sites.

I am unaffected, son.

You're implying America dominates every niche site out there. Derp.

Also I think HL2.net would thrive without Americans. We could have a tea and crumpet sub-forum and everything.

Please don't get mad at me because your Internet might be raped soon.

Its your internet too little man.

What happened? I thought Pulse used to be cool. Now hes... a shitty troll. Lame.

Guess who hosts the server. Valve. Guess where Valve lives. Guess what Valve will do to with the server of shitty fan forum filled slightly with nothing but crumpet eating pansymen?

Are you daft? How can you NOT support this? I sent my letter in almost a year ago when I first heard of this movement, so I've been behind this all along.

Why would anyone not support this bill? I don't see the logic.

I was never cool.

I suppose not. Its just, you were never on my ignore list before. Its a shame that I have to go through the effort of putting you on it it now.

Anyways, the point of this thread is that Pulse turned out to be a complete idiot, and everyone who isn't an idiot like Pulse should care about Net Neutrality.

Damn thanks for the explanation on the net neutrality. And paying for packaged internet just sucks balls. Is there a way for non Americans to contribute ?

I'm sure if we did have to pay to go on certain sites, hackers would immediately find a way to get on for free. And Pulse, why not just vote? You'd be somewhat contributing to the well being of a lot of people on this site.

Damn thanks for the explanation on the net neutrality. And paying for packaged internet just sucks balls.

It's not that it just sucks balls, but the whole internet as we know it will go to hell. It will be basically TV...no third party info/news, random non profit sites, educational material,...

Seriously this is the worst thing since Hitler.

It's so absurd, I have no belief it will get passed.

Name one and prove their greediness.

Arguments need evidence to back themselves up after all.

Any...if it turns out to be a profitable tactic, you can bet your ass they'll try to get it implemented even here.

God damn it, don't be so narrow minded! This is a bad practice for the consumer and it should be opposed at all costs.

All corporations are fuelled by greed becuase they have a legal obligation to earn as much money for their shareholders, within the framework of the law.

So let me get this straight, you have to pay to be on sites like this or other gaming forums and facebook ? So why aren't Americans doing this to the White House yet ?

Slowly slowly the government is controlling us, we'll live in a world like V for Vendetta soon enough.

He's asking i show proof of their greediness. I'm sorry i used a wrong word.

What i should have said was

i don't know if you've checked but there are for-profit ISP also in the UK and most western countries.

I don't think guns in the US are really meant to fight oppressive governments. They're mostly used for shooting cans, and high school kids.

From what I see of the template you can't be from outside the US.

In other words, it's irrelevant whether Pulse is an asshole.

So does it depend on whether Americans bother to write a letter about this ?

If so, I fear for the internetz

Already two people don't find it worrying...and this is HL2.net at 2:11AM.

Bye bye internet! We had fun while it lasted.
Now i'll probably gonna have to shell out hundreds of dollars for that kinky porn i could watch for free. They'll probably make different porn packages as an offer.

The point being, if one folds, it might turn another. But if one ISP doesn't, guess the rest of us flock to that one. That's why I don't think western countries will agree to it. Everyone will need to take it on and I bet Telstra would refuse it like they refused clean feed.

I've a slightly irrelevant question: why do you guys tend to separate the organs of your federal government, in this case the FCC, from the administration itself? I mean, you should have said "tell Obama to uphold his promises" not "tell FCC to uphold Obama's promises."

The inanity of that is simply beyond me.
