New Academic Bias Movie

But how can you say there's only two cases so the country really isn't affected by it?

How could I say that? Easy: I'm pretty sure I didn't.

This must be "attribute statements to mechagodzilla day."

Every post of mine has dealt soley with the movie. And, for proving the point that not only do universities have a liberal bias, but that it is an extremely harmful one, this movie falls far short of that goal.

I'm sorry that i missed your links. I was busy dealing with Keerbo.

But, they seem awfully reactionary.

Link 1:
-Some students had to read a book written by a socialist.
The spin:
"Millions of Carolinians were horrified by the revelation that their children were being spoon-fed Leftist curriculum."

It's just one book, for cripesakes!

-A student says being gay is immoral. His teacher rebutes him in front of the class, saying that that's a bad opinion.
The spin:
"For those who doubt the degree of malice against conservative students, the story of a beleaguered Christian at UNC-Chapel Hill provides some disturbing evidence."

Note the lack of quotes in the article itself. I don't think she specifically called him a bigot or sexist in her rebuttal. It may have been implied, but the entire purpose of the course is to promote understanding of gays.
So I can't blame her for rebuking the guy who calls them inferior.

-A university refuses to provide funding for a christian-exclusive fraternity.
the spin: the university is "Anti-Christian"

Frankly, this is the right thing to do. The simple fact is that a christian-only fraternity discriminates against others by default.
I'm sure they would not support a muslims-only or atheist-only frat house either. It's just a bad idea.

Link 2:
A conservative blog. Oddly though, it's actually a lot more solid than the conservative newsletter from before.
But here it's just saying that the humanities section of Colorado university is mostly democrats. Hooray?
What about the other sections?

People complain about "almost" no conservative speakers, or conservative philosophies. No numbers though. I'd like to see exactly how much of a disparity exists, instead of just what is percieved.

And then there's a paraphrased quote with a single line of mild bias that even the guy admits is about the extent of how biased it gets.

Link 3:
the bulk of this link is other links, which are outdated, so i can't find the debates they're mentioning.

The rest of it is a letter from a conservative student.
He says:

-professors blamed US foreign policy for 9/11.
Well, it is true that US foriegn policy in the mideast was a major cause of 9/11. Perhaps the most major, given that Al-Quada was founded as a direct response to unwelcome US military presences.

And again, we have a conservative student asserting that there are "more" liberal lectures than others, but no specifics.

And, to end it, She points out that one professor does not believe in anotherperson's belief, and that makes it bad.

So, the general concensus is that humanities teachers are mostly more liberal, and their views are sometimes offensive to some conservatives (not really a surprise :p). Hardly a sweeping indictment of the university system at large.
It would seem to me to be more a problem of not enough conservative teachers running humanities courses. Still, it stands to reason that fifty percent of all teachers must be conservative, judging by voting trends.

I'm not really convinced that whatever bias that exists is really all that bad. Without all the single conservative students giving second-hand reports of things that happened to a friend of a friend, it's still maybe three universities that I see doing anything wrong. In single examples that have long since passed.

And, as someone said at the start of the thread, most students end up conservative, so any 'bias' isn't brainwashing them anyways. Oh well.

Also, don't bother debating with kerebos. I think his name is spanish for "brick wall". :p
I mean really, after all this you're still going on as though I was the unreasonable one. Maybe you missed my post above detailing exactly why and how you weren't making sense.

No, it proves it even more. You've not really been one to watch for this have you? :D

Hey! Congradulations Mecca Godzilla! You've learned some Spanish!

This must be "attribute statements to mechagodzilla day."

But everyday its the, "bash teh conservatives and lie about what they're movies are day", so it's no problem for the change right?

So, you're not going to put forward a single argument that lasts longer than one sentence are you?

Amount of times you've accused me of using generalizations, incorrect statements, falsehoods, and pretty much every other adjective your thesaurus can handle: a good fifty, at least.
Amount actual logic: bupkis.

Put up or shut up. Do you understand what that means?

It means you don't just say "you are wrong because you used a lie but i won't tell you what lie or where or if it even exists."
It means YOU TELL ME EXACTLY HOW I AM WRONG, WITH SPECIFIC QUOTES ,AND IF YOU CANNOT DO THAT, THEN STOP SPAMMING THE THREAD.

I watched the ****ing video, I read your ranting. I re-read and catalogued your one-sentence spam ramblings and addressed your only points that formed a full paragraph. I have conclusively proven that you have not made a single correct statement to me this entire thread so far. It's all there in black and tan.

So put up, or shut up.
Or at the very least, learn to spell. Unless you are very young or english is your second language, I'm just dismayed at how half-assed your posts are.

Imagine if I posted like you.

"Kerebos is usirng genrealizations for his conservative agenda. He used it is a post in a thread! I am honest andy! I am assuming that you think the video was LIBERAL PROPAGANDA.

Why do you love conservative Propaganda?
Do you honestly believe this propoganda is your friend?

Your points are inacurate, and the are misrepresented!"

Well guess what, Buttercup: IT'S NOT TRUE JUST BECAUSE YOU SAY IT IS. YOU NEED A LOGICAL ARGUMENT TO SUPPORT YOUR CONCLUSIONS, BECAUSE WITHOUT IT YOU ARE ALL TALK AND NO GO.

I'm hoping that it's easier for you to understand capital letters.
My post is there, at the start of the thread.
If you're going to talk to me, find a single quote you object to, show it to me, and explain why it is bad.

Otherwise, stop wasting everyone's time with one-sentence responses where you claim that you aren't flooding the thread with baseless spam. Because I have conclusively proven that you are. In a post that you have, surprise surprise, failed to address.

So, honestly, gather up some self respect, and actually quote the goddamn post that you object to so much.

Otherwise, **** you.

Try and write an intelligent paragraph, on topic. Let's see if you can.

Heh, the joke's on him because he's not actually on the list. Now I've prevented him from ever ruining another of my posts. :)

I don't have the time to read all the posts that have cropped up overnight, but is anyone here actually denying the huge liberal bias that exists in universities? (especially in NA)

While you may or may not agree with the video, I don't think you can argue with the overwhelming majority of professors who are extremely liberal. And many professors see their course simply as a platform to preach their political views. So it stands that there will be a liberal bias in schools.

On a side note: http://www.studentsforacademicfreedom.org/

Join the fight for fairness.

Rest assured, it was shockingly partisan behaviour :D

The SAF is pretty wacky from what I'm reading.

And african american studies program is being taught 'from a black perpective" at a university. The SAF response? They call the teacher a 'guru' of a 'cult'.

A teacher says that Cuba is fighting racism and has an economy that is an alternative to capitalism.

The SAF response is that she hates freedom and prosperity.

Are there any cases of less extreme conservatives objecting to the horrible bias?

Political opinions get thrown in the faces of kids all the time at school... It's quite sickening how teachers can get away with saying some of the things they say. I know of a few incidents with brothers in my family who have had experiences in school with a left wing teacher - who really liked to talk about it.

We need to set some guidelines for what teachers can do and can not do... kids these days need to make up their own minds - we don't need an adult telling them what their political views should and should not be.

On the video they have a girl from the College Democrats talking about how bad it was.

And if you feel that way I am assuming you haven't attended university yet, or chose not to, or whatever. Because I know some really left wing people, and even they have a hard time stomaching the bias sometimes.
