Two new screenshots of Valve’s next title to follow Half-Life 2, admirably named Half-Life 2: Aftermath, have been released. Coming from PC Zone and Computer and Video Games, these shots ensure us that the game is coming soon, but not soon enough for most (Me). [br]

[br]As we reported a few days ago, Half-Life 2: Aftermath isn’t scheduled to release for a few short months. February/March is the current timeframe, and until that day comes, we must feast on a few teasers.

I think it's just a very similar image.

Probably. I just wish VALVe could give us a little more than that. Now that we've played Half-Life 2 already, screens like these just seem a little regular or expected.

All the better to wow us with when we play it, I say. :bounce:

Yep, I can't wait to see how Alyx's AI and personality has advanced. This is the main point of my excitement for the expansion.

Now the difference between Half Life 1 and 2 is pretty big, obviously because of the engine overhaul, but also the environment - almost all new critters and bad guys to battle. Do we know (besides speculation) if Aftermath will be as different? It appears more like a genuine sequel than HL2 did. Note: HL2 was an awesome sequel, but one of the things I enjoyed most was that it was almost an entirely new game. We know Aftermath won't be "entirely" new, but, well, I am certainly hoping it's more than new maps.

I don't believe we will see a major overhaul until HL3 because of the current schedule of the other Episodes. After the Episodes are complete, they will have time to revamp the engine as well as plan out the game.

yes it would interesting for her AI to have not-so scripted sexual attraction activities. When you own enough antlions and striders Alyx gets turned on and starts licking her fingers, or playing with her hair and commenting on your amazing abilities. When you run out of ammo she goes "here have some of mine" and pulls ammo from her clevage.

?

psssh. get your mind out of the gutter and your hand out of your pants. Alyx is such a great character just because she ISN'T what you described- rather than being an overpheromonal sex object (like every other female in games) she seems like a real person, focused on taking down the combine (as opposed to taking off her clothes). Sexual attraction would ruin that.

Have you forgotten the bit where she climbs above the player and starts programming the teleport laser in black mesa east? heh

and what exactly could they give you? Video? really its no more than images (especially beased on what you already said). You could show us all the new enemies but chances are that just ruins things for when we play.

lol..
and i know and i bet u know too that it wasn't Valve's intention to have Alyx in such a position and give people thoughts of sex :p

anyway...these screen shots are so teasing me :(

I'd just like to know when Alyx is going to change her clothes.

Really. It gotta be a little hot in those. And I didn't know you were a member here Sent.

I think Alyx should get a HEV suit, but then i'd constantly be wondering if she has panties on underneath.

Wouldn't you wonder that?

The first screenshot looks just like a regular HL1 scene and I've already seen the second.

How about showcasing a new unit, character or concept art?

What is with all the dust in the air, has the Citadel collapsed already or is it fallout from the reaction?

I hope it has the following features

A) Open-ended level design. Or rather "multi-linear" level design. SSDD really
B) More weapons
C) More enemies. Including one or two where it takes something other than bullets to kill them.

Of course i'd be content with just more weapons and enemies.

I love Striders. Plus, you only got to fight a small amount of them in HL2 anyway.

Wow it looks exactly like something i would have seen out of hl2.. more of the same ... which i'm okay with just those screenshots really arn't showing anything that we havn't already seen a million times...

rofl... there's no way of knowing that we aren't looking at normal HL2...

There is a way of knowing, I have never seen those scenes in HL2. :O

it would be cool if alyx DID change her clothes, I mean when all the shit hit the fan, she got into a load of combine flak jackets and stuff like the resistance.

I thought Aftermath was Half Life 3. My bad!

Is it just me or does the strider's gun not actually line up with where it's firing? Looks cool anyway.

Wow, whats with the disappointment? Lets just remember what Aftermath is...its an EXPANSION PACK on the game of HL2, holy shit if it looks like HL2 i'm going to faint, i was expecting Gran Turismo!

The idea with it, was a WHOLE lot more story to carry on from HL2, a few extra bits and bobs and refining some engine related bugs as well as adding a few more extras. Were people expecting real life graphics and a whole new world/ planet?

For me i'm excited about aftermath because its going to carry on the story of HL2, and continue the game i was playing a few months ago. Some little extras will be nice, but i just want to keep on playing what i was playing before. Those screenshots show theres plenty more to come, can't wait.

It would be super fun to play (although I imagine extremely hard to do from a programming point of view) to give the striders some healthy AI, put yourself and them in a large map (think Pac Man maze layoug) and let them "choose" their own paths and weapon use. After a while when the strider scripts became obvious in HL2, I longed to battle Striders with the freedom to really run around.

Glenn is absolutely right. Expansion pack means more gameplay and story. It's not supposed to be a brand new game. Look at Halflife's expansions. More story and gameplay. Although ofcourse those were a bit more drastic of changes because you weren't playing as Gordon, but the concept still applies.

AI for a strider wouldn't be hard at all. The gun aims itself and the a basic pathfinding script is all you need. Add some complicated stuff like crawling under stuff (still fairly simple I'm sure) and you've got one heck of a fun time. I mean, they have great AI for gunships, and that's pretty advanced! It's in the air!

I was expecting the Fable: Lost Chapters engine, how wrong I was.

Looks like there's going to be more war like battles in the street they were the fun parts in Half-Life 2 for me.

lol, it uses the exact same props as HL2 - nothing's changed. Guess it is an "expansion pack" though.
