Sweeping stun guns to target crowds

so much for that old tenant that if you dont agree with your government you could rally the people and march against the government ...which is what democracy is supposed to be about

other weapons to combat "activists"

smokeless tear gas

"It works the same way as the conventional tear gas except that you don't see any smoke. The police want it smokeless because smoke is visible on television. Police don't want the public to see that they are gassing people."

makes you wonder who exactly is in charge. "For the people by the people" ...my ass

Pentagon Fielding Electromagnetic Crowd Dispersal Weapon

"According to the Marine Corps Times report, the projected energy "which falls near microwaves on the electromagnetic spectrum, causes the moisture in a person's skin to heat up rapidly, creating a burning sensation, similar to a hot light bulb pressed against one's flesh .............the amount of time the weapon must be trained on an individual to cause permanent damage or death is classified"

most powerful weapon against dissent:

democracy now!

I love the Microwave one... good excuse to say "Nuke em'!!!"

Yeah, all they'll see on TV is people grabbing their necks and choking to death, and puking all over the place while their eyes bulge out. Ofcourse that kind of violence is perfectly OK for primetime television.

Well, that's all pretty terrifying. "Activists" - nice and broad, that one.
I wonder how much all this cost to develop, and I wonder how much of that could have been put to better use in, say, medicinal research or schools. Pfft, what do they matter?

"the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy." - Noam Chomsky

a quote on complacency:

"First they came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me."

Ummm, are you afraid its really good at killing? Because they don't release A LOT of stuff on weapons, especially design statistics.

i.e. "The military is making a new machine gun with A CLASSIFIED RATE OF FIRE"
OMG !!! IT MUST FIRE 3 MILLION BAJILLION BULLETS PER PICOSECOND!!!!
GLA GAH OMG!!!

Basically, that duration of time to harm people COULD be hours. I agree there is a possibility it cooks people in an instant, but being classified is no indicator of such speed.

did you read the link? I dont think you did. This is meant to be a nonlethal weapon against dissent...but it doesnt mean they couldnt turn it up to "11"

Am I the only one who sees the potential use of such weapons? Makes activism a dangerous prospect. Fine! wallow in your complacency; allow your government to whittle away at your civil liberties...just dont complain when you finally realise the government serves corporate interests rather than private individuals which is what democracy is supposed to be about

Yeah I didn't read it, but I do know they have laws about not KILLING OR SERIOUSLY HARMING PROTESTORS (keywords: crowd dispersal, not massacre). It's pretty obvious. But that is besides the point. You (or whoever you got this from) stressed the fact they classified the time it takes to do serious damage, I'm just saying that that time being classified information is not out of the ordinary.

[Btw, my mad capitalization is to stress portions of a sentence, not to use the words in a hateful fashion (I'm too lazy to bold lol)]

This sucks, I liked it better back when we just shot them, or ran them over with tanks, screw this non lethal pussy shit, kill all the ****ers.

Hehe, this sounds neat :)

Soon after they get these weapons finalized they can start creating more anti-gun legislation so citizens cannot defend themselves. It'll be like the combine but in real life!

Because we all know how often we need to defend ourselved from the government taking over....

Just a thought foxtrot...

Like the American Revolution? Or do you like tea instead of coffee, lol ;)

 I read the 1st one couple weeks before, interesting stuff.

man foxtrot, if I were you I'd just shut up, because the more I read what comes out of your mouth the more I'm convinced you're a mental midget

****ing kids these days ...no disrespect to some of the young people here who actually have a head on their shoulders

I was joking....

sure you were ... you need to take responsibility for what you say
Damn, I guess we can't have opinions or joke around here.

you call that a joke? People died for your rights. People around the world would kill for the amount of freedom you have, yet you take it for granted. That's what the world of tommorrow needs more of: youth without any social awareness.

/end of rant

here this might help:

"If they come to ethnically cleanse me,
will you speak out? Will you defend me?
Freedom of expression doesn't make it alright
Trampled underfoot by the rise of the right.

Welcome to a state where the politics of hate
shout loud in the crowd "Watch them beat us all down"
There is a rising tide in the rivers of blood
but if the answer isn't violence, neither is your silence."

There is a fine line between remembering the dead, the poor etc. and living life.
It is good to spend time in thought for those who died for our rights/freedoms/lives, but to dwell on such indefinitely leads to depression. But, if every time you had food, you though about those too poor to eat, every time you read a newspaper or watch the news, or see a protest, you think of our rights, people who died in protest etc. you would go INSANE and become suicidal. I didn't even start on war because that is even worse.

I by no means am defending foxtrot, in fact an apology is in order. But, CptStern and others, to dwell on the sacrifice of others constantly can only bring sadness. I don't know if you dwell on the dead or not, I'm in no position to judge you. But I'm just saying light-heartedness is in order to live life to its fullest.

War is tragic, but necessary. The same goes for protest.

edit: forgot to say:

essentially, when you forget the sacrifice of others, you take your rights for granted. But during that time is when you will be the most carefree and happy. People ought to know their history and the sacrifice of others, but it is not wrong to forget about it for a while to enjoy life.

Uh oh...it's another I hate the goverment thread.

ummm.. Did I come across that way? cuz I never even said the word government.

Of course everyone (ought to , at least) hate(s) government corruption!

But whatever, be happy, be sad, be a nihilist (we all die eventually) or be religious (we all live forever)

And remember kids! there's more to life than half-life 2. There's Halo2, Doom3, Far Cry,....

GASP!!! microwave guns don't vaporize incoming nukes!?!??!
Well, I'd rather get microwaved than die from radiation poisoning!!

Wait, nukes anyday! I got my bottle of KI (potassium Iodide for all you non-nuclear freaks, reduces radiation)

Cpt Stern! People DIED so we wouldn't have to nuke.... Oh nevermind. lol

no ...people died because we nuked them...damn get it straight man! ;)

No kidding? I thought they died because they were EVIL! :O

Don't you know? Nukes only kill evil people! Good people get turned into neat piles of ash!
Btw, all women and children are.. [I think I'll stop to keep this discussion light-hearted! :) :) :) :) :) ]

The more nonlethals the better. I'd rather be shocked than shot. Beyond that it has always been the will of the person using it that did wrong, not the weapon itself.

Is it just me, Or does it sound like mass Hilarity watching 400 people get stun gunned all at the same time?

I am a little twisted.. :naughty:

heeey, wait a minute, that's a mis-quote! Plus whose flaming, we're all getting along, right?

[incoming sarcasm!}

NOW STFU YOU STUPID-ASS ****-FACE N00B!!!

What a stupid conclusion to draw. As LittleB said, it's pretty easy to tell when people are getting gassed. You know what I think? I think the police want it invisible so that the protestors can't see it, and where it's coming from when it is released, when/if the protest gets out of control. That way, it is harder for them to avoid, making retreat a more logical option.

And come on, they aren't saying they are going to use this on peaceful demonstrations. These tools are designed for when protests get out of control, and the activists start throwing rocks and trying to beat you over the head with glass bottles. If governments wanted to tyrannically end all protests, they could use much more horrendous methods of doing so. Just be glad that they aren't using bullets. Next time you're on a protest, remember, keep it civil.

at the summit of the americas in Quebec, undercover police made "pre-emptive" arrests of several group organisers. Thousands of teargas canisters were fired into the crowd, affecting thousands of people as far as 5 km from the protest. Hundreds of people (protestors and innocent bystanders) had to be treated for tear gas sickness. Several eye witnesses said police targeted medical staff as they tried teargas victems.

"4,709 canisters of tear gas over a 72 hour period, effectively filling downtown with gas. A month later, homes and other buildings in downtown were still contaminated by the gas, and calls for a public inquiry had been dismissed. "
