New Crysis vid from GDC! Playable at E3!

I figured it was running off of some sort of DX10, but is the hardware for that even available yet for devs?

Well, you can develop DirectX10 applications without having the hardware (using the REF device(Software), as oppose to HAL(hardware) ) however it's slow as hell so If they were using the REF device to make the videos I suprised at the FPS they got.

This makes unreal 3 look so last year. Its like Crytek ran over everyone in terms of tech. We thought Unreal 3 is this Gen. We thought wrong.

Eh? By the time Crysis is released Unreal 3 will be last year. They have to wait for Vista and Direct3D 10 capable video cards before they can even contemplate releasing Crysis, and then they'll probably wait a while after that to make sure both of those things have had enough time to take hold. The next generation of Unreal Tech games will be about way before then.

Crysis is easily one of the best-looking games at GDC, and we're already pumped for the game. Visually, it makes Far Cry, as well as almost everything else, look incredibly dated, which is quite an accomplishment. The GDC trailer indicated that we'll be able to play Crysis at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in two months, and we're looking forward to it. Until then, we'll keep you up to date on further developments. Yerli said that we can expect the game to ship this winter.

Note that far cry was released early 2004 (like UT2004 ;)) and is still one of the best looking engines...crytek really knows how to build a superb engine.

How am I supposed to go outside and socialize when games like this looks so ****ing real ?
I am going to LIVE IN MY PC when this comes out :D

The part after the tree collapses, the tree in the background magically sprouts a load more leaves. And the twitchy soldier animations.

Only things that detract from this. Absolutely love those clouds.

Look at that huge rock in on the island, thats ****ing incredible :D

Yeah, that seems incredibly close. But hey, just going by the level of polish... who knows!

The thing that worries me here, however, is the gameplay. Far Cry was amazing because of its punishing difficulty level, its brilliant long-range mechanic, its great AI... so far, the only actualy gameplay we've seen seems much more run-and-gun. It would be a real shame to have a game this gorgeous with absolutely no substance at all :(

I wasn't a big fan of Far Cry. the moment the mutants came it was a downhill from them. Plus , I have my issues with the engine's shiny plastic people.

In the end , the game is rememberd for it's setting , the island was amazing just to look at , the view was great ,the draw distance. but other than that and the troops AI the game didn't leave too much of a mark.

Now , Crysis is no doubt looking awesome , gfx wise. I'm not hopeful for the rest of the game and besided the story of the game sounds like they mixed together B-movies from all over the place and the fact the setting is again an island begs the question if the team has the abillity to offer and make all-around quality gameplay.

For now it looks like Far Cry with high ammount of sugar in the bloodstream.

and WTF is that mech doing there , it seems they are just throwing evey enemy and design that was semi-sucessfuk into one ( it reminds the spider mech thingy from quake). Is a huge robot\mech\machine is now a must after the success of the Striders in HL2?

I loved Far Cry because of its beauty, great sniper and sneaking possibilities. Loved how you could sneak up upon the enemies with just the knife in your bare hands. I loved that you could shoot some guys from distance and see how the rest of the bad people would react and just laugh at them. There's much I loved about Far Cry. The mutants were terribly scary sometimes, but I wish that there would have been dinosaurs instead :/

True True!

IIRC this is running on DirectX 10 (they showed it at one of the last microsoft conferences and it was boasting DX10)

Thus, if this is on DX10, you will NEED Vista to get it. They will not be back-porting DX10 to XP.

And in conclusion, Crysis needs to come out _after_ Vista is released, and since it just got delayed until 2007, you won't see it until then.

Thanks and have a nice day, release date proven false :)

So is this the scond iteration of the same engine? Or a completely new engine?

Actually i'm not entirely sure what to think. Because it looks just as good as the UE3 engine with the exception that the clouds are awesome in this. Not to mention UE3 is a DX 9.0 game and Crysis is the first DX 10 game. So i really can't see what all the hype about this engine is. Its awesome, but we've seen stuff like this from UE3 before.

Not true. Crytek said they are supporting dx9 so the game can come out before vista and people will run it on dx9 once vista comes out people will then be able to run it on dx10. Although i dont see them taking that route.

Not true. If you compare the textures/faces on Unreal 3 to Crytek Engine 2 they cant compare it makes Unreal 3 look so last year.

I have to agree, I explicitly remember they were going to release it along side vista.

It's also pretty obvious the faces are of better quality, Im just amazed at what they've managed to come up with and how they kept it so quiet up untill a mere 8 months before planned release.

Yeah. Crysis looks nowhere near as flashy and overdone as, say, UT2K7, but it looks MUCH more realistic. This is much better, if you ask me- eye candy without giving you a seizure.

If you read the mag i read with al the info on the game im sure youll agree that this engine or game looks flashier.

My eyes say that comparing Crysis with UT2007 is like comparing Half-Life 2 with Halo. In other words, Crysis looks far better in any point of view ;)

I guess it depends on your definition of "flashy". I don't read the mag, so I don't know what you're referring to. But...
unreal-tournament-2007-20050819054422278.jpg

^That looks much more flashy and overdone than anything in Crysis.

The outdoor environments in UT2007 are not much better than in Oblivion

Looked pretty nice, nothing to wet my pants over though.

Note early on in the video when it's showing off volumetric clouds. Look to the left side of the screen and you can see the crashed alien spaceship. It's huge.

Holy shit nice find!

Don't mind flashiness, u3 still looks very beautiful.

both are great games. :)

How? You can barely see the faces in either the shaky-cam or the HD video. Not to mention, what you can see is so out of sight or obscured thats its pretty hard to make any comparison to this

As for the textures, i haven't seen anything from either engine to suggest that ones more powerful than the other in terms of texture quality.

So you've played the game have you?

And thats exactly the point of it. Its called Art Direction, thats what they're trying accomplish with that level.

You guys need to stop jumping to conclusions or you're gonna be disappointed.

And I'm pretty sure thats a mountain not a spaceship. That spider thing in the end of the video is mechanical and alien, completely unlike the "UFO" which looks exactly as a mountain should.

If you watch the 1st tech demo you can see the faces in clearn HD not a recording. You can clearly tell they are 100x better. Another fact is the screenshots from the mag.

No, but you can tell by the screenshots. Atleast for now it's not very much better than Oblivion. The Crysis environments look much better.

The most immersive and lush looking outdoor environment's

Fully interactive

Destructable

It's surely what everyone has wanted for a long time, how can you beat that.. imo an important turning point for interaction in fps games more important than the top notch visuals, which is why it's the most exiting fps game ive ever seen.

They do not look better, until this video I thought that ut2007 looked better. I mean I knew that this engine was more powerfull but I remember video's from gears of war where they had those incredible looking monsters, where they like slapped textures from monsters that were 20 million polygons on the ones in the game and it look so beautiful, plus the faces and hair from the husxey video looked better to me then the faces in the crysis techdemo. I remember there is a scene in the huxley video's where a guy with short orange or blond hair is sitting and you can like see the light reflect off every hair and the face looked very beautiful too ,as did the muscles on the monsters.

Yes, it will be nice to finally get in a firefight in the jungle and bring it all down with my vulcan cannon like Jesse the Body in predator--wicked scene that (though entirely humanly impossible unfortunately).

huzzah! chain gun the forest down, oh baby if you can do that and see it all fly *dies*

I think there is some new footage on this episode of digital life TV probably just old stuff though, linky

I found this neat gif too :p
