New Crysis vid from GDC! Playable at E3!

They do not look better, until this video I thought that ut2007 looked better. I mean I knew that this engine was more powerfull but I remember video's from gears of war where they had those incredible looking monsters, where they like slapped textures from monsters that were 20 million polygons on the ones in the game and it look so beautiful, plus the faces and hair from the husxey video looked better to me then the faces in the crysis techdemo. I remember there is a scene in the huxley video's where a guy with short orange or blond hair is sitting and you can like see the light reflect off every hair and the face looked very beautiful too ,as did the muscles on the monsters.

Unreal Tournament 2007

Huxley

Gears of War

Crysis

Project Offset

Now whos the winner?

Unreal Tournament 2007 looks mind blowing but after you see Crysis it looks "normal"
Huxley uses the Unreal 3 Engine but its a mmo thats why it doesnt look nearly as good.
Gears of War looks great but i have no idea why its not AS GOOD as Unreal Tournament 2007 (Maybe because its a console game)
Crysis just blows away all think of those things in game, think of that detail on everything.
Project Offset again looks insane and has a very different art approach to it.

They are all great games but when it comes to more realistic faces or more detailed faces Crysis comes out on top.

Mmm, nice comparison!

It definitely comes down to what you like or are looking for in your faces for these games. Realism is what Crysis is going for, so that makes perfect sense. Project Offset is straight-up fantasy, so the facial style works perfectly there too. Gears of War looks sort of like a melding of the realistic/fantasy features because the characters are sort of cartoonish and exaggerated anyway, but sort of like a realistic cartoon, if that makes any sense.

All of them look seriously wonderful, but their beauty is very different in each case since the look needs to fit the theme/scope of them game. Personally, I can't wait for all of them!

That big picture does show it a lot better then the tech vid, crysis faces do indeed look better, but it certainly does not blow it away. Plus the face and hair I was talking abour in huxley are from a guy you did not post a pic of, he still looks very good. that pic you posted form huxley is from one of the worst characters. Plus while I do not doubt thatt he crysis engine is the most powerfull, it is on dx10, you have to remember that those images are from techvids while the ones from ut and huxley are from ingame. And techvids always do look better then the final product.

Whilst Crysis looks awesome, I'm really hoping they are going to bank on the interesting premise they've set up - Far Cry had an equally interesting premise, but sadly that was an absolute flop of a story. A good, well written, well paced story is what keeps me going in an FPS these days.

I'm not that excited, to be honest. Sure, it looks great...but I find it difficult to be even 'somewhat' excited, when I wonder how the gameplay and story will turn out.

my jaw literally dropped.. I just hope they actually have a good story and sdk this time

Damn, is this still running off of DX9c? It looks damn incredible.

Its a Vista only game, and the only Direct X drivers are DirectX9L (Vista-only version of directX9, runs slighty faster than normal DirectX9) and DirectX10. I haven't heard anything about it being compatible with DirectX9L, but it should be a nice if it was.

Every tech demo iv seen has ether looked worse or the same as the final game.

Doom 3 Tech looks 100% the same.
Half-Life 2 Looked better
FarCry Looked better

Theres more just cant recall.

There is absolutely nothing there that suggest UE3 can't make faces as realistic as Crysis can. Thats exactly what i'm trying to say. When you say Crysis blows everything away, its personal opinion and not fact. Also, Crysis is coming out next year when Vista does, whereas UT2007 and Gears of War are set for realise sometime mid-year.

As for fully destructible environments.

Doesn't crysis use the latest shader model though? sm4.0, thats a major reason why the faces look so realistic.

Why are people saying next year? this isnt valve, Vista has an autumn target and the statement from microsoft was that it would be released in conjuncture with Vista.

nov. this year for corporate users, and jan. next year for general consumers.

You have a rather decent comp.
I myself have a 3 year old one but I'm on a very strict budget so I'm trying to hold out til Vista but it's hard..

Never heard that at all. Didn't even know there was an SM4.0.

Yeah, I hope so too. And I hope they have much possitive surprises yet to show us.

Lets just hope the story isn't penned by Uwe Boll :|

The story is already quite a bit well known afterall, sounds like great material for a B-movie..
War breaks out between North Korea and the US or w/e, a giant spaceship crashes, aliens invade teh plejs(trigens from Far Cry perhaps? lol, atleast same in basic I guess, aliens are stupid!) and the rest will just be like the later half of far cry I bet, full of shit, but hopefully gameplay'll more than make up for it <3

I just can't come up with any reason why some, most of you guys dislike Far Cry that much. I mean, yeah the story was not the best there is, nor was it any interesting either but the gameplay was awesome, everything except the story was...
Far Cry was never ment to be anything based much on the story, it was all about the jungle action from B-movies :)

does someone have the full scale HD video from IGN? Only "insiders" can download it...

Mutley: thankyouthankyouthankyou for the decent video with sound.

That music is incredible (isn't that the Truman Show theme tune at the very beginning?) and if they don't use it in the actual game it will be such a missed opportunity. Same with the original Far Cry - the awesome theme tune was never actually used in-game as I remember.

Now I'm really looking forward to this, because I loved Far Cry, and thus it's practically guaranteed that I'll love this.

I feel the exact same way, and yes the music is just pure awesomeness :D

SM 4.0 will be supported on DirectX10 graphic cards
Oh ok, cool. Whats the difference between SM 4.0 and 3.0?

Wasn't the difference between 2 and 3 just some slight speed?

I just got a game update here...

The difference between 2 and 3 is MASSIVE. Absolutely massive. 3 is alot faster and can pull off things like HDR, and pixel shaded water much faster and easier.

Now ATI made a revision of 2 called 2.0b which they went to instead of 3. This vs 3 makes 3 a much smaller gap.

4 goes now unifies both Vertex and Pixel Shaders I believe. A Unified Shader System so Vertex and Pixel shaders can be used interchangably. This when used right can heavily increase speed. Why waste vertex shaders when you need to concentrate on textures and alot of special effects in a scene. Why waste pixel shaders when you need Vertex Shaders for high polygon scenes.

So when your looking at water in a game, more Pixel Shaders can be used thus increasing performance. When your having alot of guys on screen at once why not use those Vertex Shaders?

Again, they're aiming for realism. And doing a damn fine job at that.
