New date for hl2!!!!!

Well I think it's safe to say that this is a little different, I mean everyone was sure it would be out on Sept 30th, even Valve was saying that, and then suddenly it was delayed. So we have all these stores that have pre-orders and a statement saying April 2004, so what is the best way to keep people from cancelling the pre-orders??? You figure it out...

As far as gaming sites go (that don't sell the game), well so far everyone's been predicting, no one has any solid proof of any kind of a release date. I'm sure if it is for the holidays and Valve is sure of this, then they'd come out and say it. So far they haven't. I think they want to pull for a release date for Xmas but that they just are not sure if they can do it. Hence the silence.

well once Holidays '03 rolls around and the game doesnt come out people will cancel their preorders, so your idea is trash to say the least

Some not. Many will say: Oh I played this HL2 demo thingy and it sucked. Like the graphic is strange and only some locations are pretty. It wasn't fun (and don't realise there is no story, there are many bugs etc.)

no1 downloading the beta who actualy gets it working is going to say that.

they would need to be realy stupid to think thats a demo.

the ppl who dont buy the game wouldnt have bought it even if there wasnt a leaked version.

No the beta was fun very cool some maps where you don t see it s behind cause there is nothing and you fall but some others maps where cool.
Bugs and some missing textures but it s all.
Oh yes to load map only by console ;( when you click on new game and after hard nothing happend so go to console.

Playing that beta told me only one thing buy the game when is out.
If you knew how muh people his downloading the beta and how much people in this forum who have it !!!

Really i will buy the game, only dissapointed it don t was on the store 30th September.

Erm, care to share your logic on how you arrived at such a well thought out conclusion? Heh, so if you had a lot of pre-orders and you didn't want to lose money, what would you do? I'm not saying that the Holidays are not a possibility, I'm just saying that I don't think Valve is sure that they can meet it. Regardless if they will or not, stores with pre-orders are saying November, and IT IS because they don't want to lose those existing pre-orders. It's better to push the date back little by little, though I am sure they will still lose pre-orders if the game doesn't come out on the Holidays, but they sure as hell won't lose as many if they just all say April IMO. I also don't think they are sure of the release date either. If you are going to respond to my posts, please try to post at least a half intelligent remark or comment. Thanks.

If someone preordered it I dont see any reason they'd cancel it...unless it was as a present, in which case they'd cancel either way.
Also, anyone who cancels a preorder is still going to buy it, so I doubt any real money is lost.

cool November is good :) are you kidding me ? Im going to buy this game for sure. Even though I can download it right when it comes out Im instead going to pay for it. Now I can finally Preorder:cheers:

eek just read the update...

Did my post hit a nerve? people will start to catch on to this "little by little" approach that you have theorized and therefore cancel their preorders. so there are two conclusions, either valve releases the game holidays '03 and all the little fanboys who preordered it are happy, or holidays '03 comes and everyone cancels their preorder because they now figure its coming out april '04.

Reread my post please. Haha, and why would your post hit a nerve?

the mere fact that they said that they got the info from gamestop shouldve given it away. they were in the states and saw that gamestop had it up for release on that date, but as we all know, gamestop has changed it countless amounts of times, and really has just as much of an idea as we do.

It'll be out, trust me. I've planned a lengthy chain of events, events that will secure the Hl2 release do the Holiday Season. Once this avalanche starts, none will be able to stop ot.

Well, uhh...
First, I discard my stance against crime, and join a groop of robbers. On Nov. 29th we rob a bank, with fake guns. With the money from the bank we buy real guns. Seeing as many of us would have jobs, it'll probably take two months to get around to. Now we're at approx Feb. 2nd. With the real guns now in ours hands, we take a bus ride to to a hotal near VALVe HQ. At this hotel we watch and study VALVe for roughly two months, waiting for the best time to strike. On April 1st we force Gabe Newell to make the current load the final release. The game goes GOLD, five minutes later, and we all have it April 22nd...Wait a minute. That doesn't... doe! *Looks at his inquisitors* No...wait, just a second, I got it.
*Draws a crappy doodle of Gabe throwing free copies, out of the window, to the Hl fans.* Hey, come back! Hey...
guys?

-Ghost.

Sorry, I was gone. Or it took me fifty minutes to make these up...you decide. What really matters is that we'll all be playing Hl2, next month, or in Dec.

How is this thread so long, what the hell are you guys talking about! :p

I sure hope it makes the holiday season, lets stay optomistic!

Step away from the keyboard and go outside.
What exactly do you expect people to be talking about on a Half-Life 2 forum? More to point, what the hell are you doing here if it's not to talk about Half-Life?

I'm really surprised that nobody has thought of this yet considering how many people view these forums, but don't you guys think maybe Valve finally got the hint and they're keeping HL2 with no set release date and slapping a "when it's done" sticker on it to prevent further "I hate Valve, they killed my babies and Jesus too" comments from the public?

I expect it to be released soon, but i don't expect Valve to give me a date because it's clear that they will likely not be able to keep their word.

For all intents and purposes the release date for HL2 is "When it's done."

No, cause around late November, they'll all quietly push the date back to January 2004, and so on until the game is actually released.

That's assuming the retailers really are trying to string us along.

Amazon.co.uk have pushed back their release date for HL2 to April 2004, so at least some Retailers are being fairly honest.

April, June for me its far too long. Damn that hacker to Hades, if they ever catch him they should string him up by the nads, then cover him in jam and stake him to an ant hill :flame:

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

I don't know why people continue to blame the hacker, considering Valve said that the leak had nothing to do with the delay...

i cant believe people blame a hacker for a 6 month release.
valve's shit stinks too you know

<Takes a chill pill>

Yeah I know, Valve ain't perfect, the wall of silence they give out most of the time can be especially irritating.

We have no release date as such, it could be April, June even December this year, so it could be less than 6 months, nobody really knows.

Well, the people who say the leak of the source code has delayed HL2 is Vivendi, the publishers, I'm pretty sure they've got a fair idea what they are talking about. Just hope 4 month delay is worse case scenario.

I know multinational like Vivendi aint perfect (I work for them myself, so believe me I know) and HL2 might have not have been as close to completion as Valve & Vivendi would like to have people believe however nobody can deny that the spread of the source code is not gonna to cause even more delays. Now instead of finishing the game, Valve have gotta worry about things they thought they had already sorted eg cheat protection, CD key encryption, even Steam could have been comprised by this hacker. I somehow doubt Valve are gonna say 'Don't matter lets carry on & finish it' They have gotta review the damage done and then fix it, that is gonna delay the release date no matter what. Whoever this hacker was he HAS delayed HL2, so I would'nt sing his praises too highly.

Just my 2 cents

Im work for the industrial part of it, called Veolia. Nothing to do with the Entertainment Division. Don't even get any freebies :(

Gabe has replied my mail saying that this whole new release date thing is bogus. So another rumour shot to death.

Hi Gabe,

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13001

can you confirm this by posting in www.halflife2.net?

Thanks,

I bet they already found out what the hacker stole and are in the changing process right now.

Yep, I would think they already are trying to fix the damage done by the source leak. How long it's gonna take to sort it is anybodys guess. They might have to rewrite a fair bit a code so it could take a while. Guess I've gotta replay OP4 again.

Shade

I don't understand why people think they are going to rewrite the code that was stolen. That makes absolutely no sense. They will fix whats broken and add alot, but they aren't going to back over the whole thing and change it just for the f*ck of it.

I think its gotten to the point where it is stupid to even speculate on the release date. The truth is no one knows. Probably not even Gabe, and if he doesnt know, how do you think you could possibly know? I know its just something to do as we wait for the game, but its gotten obnoxious. Just my opinion.

The reason being is the source code contains alot of stuff that people are'nt supposed to see. To my knowledge the source for Half Life I was never made public knowledge, only a few people outside Valve has ever seen it.

It may have contained information that will allow the multiplayer to be hacked, or even the CD key protection be bypassed. Valve have got to be sure none of the stuff that was leaked could compromise the security of the copy protection or Multiplayer and probably a lot of other stuff I can't even imagine.

They have to be careful otherwise playing online will end up like Diablo I - everyone cheating. Problem is the source was fairly complete as there is a working version, it looked like they were still working on the bells and whistles (map design, AI etc) so who knows what it contained.

I've read somewhere the hacker downloaded 10 GIGS of data. Valve will have to go through all it to see what damage has been done.

I sure hope I'm wrong but I would say we're looking at next year for a release.

Not to be rude, but I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Was that re-assuring?
At least I think you are. There are just so many possibilities. But I really do think we'll see it this year. Not only would it be the 5th anniversary, but Hl2 will have virtually no competition...At least nothing stiff enough. And with CZ coming out shortly before, they'll have PC gaming cornered. Let's not forget that parents will buy their children games they think they'll like, even if the kid doesn't ask for it. When I was in school I knew three guys that got Hl, and didn't even know waht the hell it was. Companies take that into consideration...It would be stupid to delay. Especially with the large outcry from fans, and the number of huge games coming out in April.

DoomIII, Halo 2, Splinter Cell 2...all in April. And there are other great games coming out, before April, such as Fable. I think Holiday 2003 would be the best strategem, whether or not they do, I don't know. But I'll remain hopeful, until they say otherwise.

Not to be rude, but i think you're full of wishful thinking. And once Jan 1 04 rolls around with no HL2 you're going to be full of disappointment.

Yes you are right it would be bad for buisness to delay but...It's something they CANNOT help

I highly doubt they are sitting in an office laughing about "We're gonna let our publisher tell these guys April, Then we're really gonna release it in November. That would be sooooooooo cool."

They are probably cussing and working round the clock to get the game fixed. So they can get paid.
