Go salivate at the new screenshots... http://pc.ign.com/articles/451/451199p1.html

Pisses me off that a game that isn't even coming out this year is getting preview coverage while our dearest hardly has any and is supposedly is a week away from release.

EDIT: PC IGN also received a tip that Tool will be doing a song for the game...which me likes a lot since they're my favorite band.

They look alright to me, I will definetly buy the game eventually. But my level of excitement is not nearly as high for that as HL2.

At least i was polite enough to hijack a thread when i posted this information.

Ditto

*drools over screenshots*

HL2 and D3 and I can die happy.

Why in this world and walmart are you posting something about D3 in a HL2 generals discussion forum ?

Yeah...thanks, Spitty. I was thinking of posting a similar link (via blues). Release is scheduled for 2004...or before DNF (heh).

In terms of graphics, it will be revolutinary, but the gameplay will be fairly basic.

HL2 has the one-two punch of revolutionary graphics AND gameplay.

Of course I'll buy it.

i always hated those Revenants. The sound they made always gave me the chills.

if anyone else posted this there would be 2 pages of "wrong forum" and "doom 3 sux"

Just cus spitcodfry was at valve he wont be flamed .... WRONG !
Go eat some cheese

I hate to say this cause i'm a Doom III Fanboy...but I gotta admit I'm starting to get swayed into thinkin Halflife 2 might look better....maybe cause its alot more bright an you get to appreciate the gfx more...No doubt i'm getting both though...Does anybody know if I will be able to play Halflife 2 on my Sprint Pcs phone?

Looks like they are really on the right track with Doom3. Looks great (albiet with some tradeoffs), and it really sounds like they are working to make the game have a plot full of events, rather than random rooms full of mosnters.

Who knows? I've pre ordered my atari 2600 cartridge.

Although it's off-topic, this thread is way more interesting then 90% of what gets posted on this forum these days.

I enjoyed reading the article. It had lots of new info and it gives a general idea about the gameplay in Doom III.

Looks great, I really look forward to HL2 and Doom3, both will rise the bar in PC Graphics, HL2 for using for the first time Directx9 shaders to a great extend and Doom3 for the innovative shadows.
2003 and 2004 are going to be remembered for fantastic FPS (HL2, Doom3, DEUS EX2, Far Cry, Stalker,....)

Looks fun. Only 4 player MP though aparently.

I think that is a bad idea, but I've heard it's better than you'd think. Time will tell, I suppose.

Maybe someone will do a Doom III mod for Halflife2...or vice versa...NEVER ever drink 4 Redbulls an think you can patiently watch an wait for these replies....Oh the humanity...let me buurn

Doom3 looks fokin' cool! Any idea how it performs on a Radeon 9800 Pro? Is it much slower than the GFX5900Ultra? Any benchmarks? I'm soooo lazy to find it by myself:)

We see all these nice screenshots, but what kind of video card is running it?

No, it won't be. Last thing I heard Carmack has implemented a standard rendering procedure wich should suit Radeon cards pretty well. He wrote a few different renderes, for different grafics chipsets, the FX routines are less precise.

Yes it will of course run well on a 1GHZ machine, there's no question about it, you'll just have to deactivate, shadows, textures, high poly models..... but, but, the main menu will run well!!!!

No, just a very low res. Without, of course, as many bells and whistles, but the shadows will always be there. Too much of the gameplay is designed around them.

HL2 was supposed to run great on machines that won't even run HL1 properly...:) Everybody says that at first. Than the recommended average config for Doom3 will be 2,5GHz 512MB RAM and some GFX5800Ultra or so...

I think that HL2 and DOOM3 will need the same machines to run in full quality, DOOM3 a litte more CPU power for the shadows, but then again HL2 has its physics and the strong AI.

ermm.... i saw benchmarks for DOOM III and it showed Nvidia Owning ATi.... :\

OK people were trippin all over the Strider on whether it could really stand on 2 legs and no one is laughing that the skeleton with a die cast metal torso being supported by bone legs? LOL

Then the spider d00ds. There heads are upside down! If you had no bullets all you would need is a water hose to spray their faces and drown those suckers.

LOL - I am just being silly, I am looking forward to Doom 3 for the scare factor. But I dunno. If all I can think about is how these super spiders would drown in a rain storm I may be LOL between my "oh crap"s.

Yes, I saw those too, but if you have read the latest statement of John Carmack he said ATI cards are going to outperform NVIDIA when it comes to high precision rendering. And that was the latest info, the benchmarks with the Alpha version don't count anymore as they didn't include the standard renderer.

That is what NVIDIA wanted you to see. It had something to do with the specific Catalyst version being used in the benchmark. All other Catalysts worked fine but obviously they are going to show the one Catalyst version that was getting 1 FPS. Don't expect truth on teh intarweb.
