The first FarCry demo was a big hit. The new demo is now released and is available in two different forms. (The fix will convert the original demo into new format)

It will be inculded in the PC Gamer April'04 disc. If you would rather download it, go to the link and download the 39mb file to convert the first demo into the new demo

Thanks Gorgon!
That's an awesome map! Great visuals and tough fights.

Now that there's a second demo map, I feel more confident that Far Cry will actually be released on March 26.

I already posted the link to DL it in my 'New FarCry videos' thread yesterday. I couldn't edit the title so that everyone could see the new one, if you don't belive me go look.

but this version is fixed the grey ball problem..! :D

The guy updated the link and now try it again, the grey balls are gone.

Good, looks better now too. :D And also it was a hard map, well, the outdoor part was...

after playing that new demo, farcry's story is now officially confusing
EDIT: now i'm stuck and can't beat the demo

Well, this was a little better than the other demo, but damn the caves kill my FPS :/

I'm SO impressed...seriously..this demo changed my whole view on far cry.
Right now this game is the second game in my list of "most wanted".
Halfife 2 is first off course :D

But the visuals were SO damn good...espessially in the caves..it were the best I ever seen in a game, with directx9 effects.

I GOTTA get this game :D

This one i felt was more in depth....I havent finished it yet and i suppose that says enough.
Its also harder i noticed, at least until the caves. Its surprising because you might think that with the extra guns to start with, you would find it easier.

Anyway, Far Cry is gonna be cool. I just want the bodies to not vannish though :|

Far cry is so impressive i used to be a Doom III fanboy, but with massive outdoor enviroments, and more pretty stuff, and the fact its official release is 23rd of march. :) :p. doesnt that sorta make it more supreme. ? more playbable and more fun..., I sure thought so

It started to get scary .....and those dog type things are that one guy's expeirements i think

Just went through it..and I have to say..albiet a shorter level than the first...this one showed of the game more.

Sure there weren't any vehicles...but it showed how you have to plan your attack sometimes... If you don't... you'll have guys creeping up on you that you can't see on your radar.

I started the level..noticed I had a few sniper bullets...so I decided to use them since I saw like 12 targets right off the bat. I didn't think the AI would be very good... the AI in the first level seemed pretty weak at times. So I put a bullet in a guy's head.. blew up the propane tank or whatever it was next to the boat.. killed another guy. I noticed a guy running for the radio..so I shot it just as he got there so the chopper wouldn't come in, then dropped the guy next to the radio.

Ok.. outta bullets. Time to move up along the isl-- AARGG

I'm getting shot by like 3 guys that I can't see. These guys snuck up on me while the guys across the water were just spraying what could have been distracting fire.. I dunno. I sprint away dropping my sniper rifle and hide behind a rock. They couldn't see me..but they were looking. I peeked out with my binocs. to see if I can tag them...I found one..then a second later I hear a *TINK* a grenade had just landed at my feet. I sprint out.. but I'm running out of stamina.. so I don't quite make it far enough away from the grenade. I'm almost dead by now. I glance back over at the island across the water and noticed that nobody is there. I check my radar and the ones left all swarming around me.

I'm screwed. I knew I was dead so I just stood up and went down guns blazing.

That was the most fun death in a game I've had. I decided to not underestimate the AI when I played next time.

When you got into the caves... did you see a little cutscene thingy that showed a guy getting attacked by some monster? It was just a static guy and the monster just leaped through him...seemed kinda unfinished..ah well.

Had a blast.. Gonna play it again in a bit.

How do you mean "fixes" it? I'm interested because I had a few problems running the first one.

Yeah, this new demo shows the AI in a much better way the the first one did....

Anyway I have a problem with the demo... I seem to have the sky set at 8 bits color or something... anyone know how to fix that?

Yeah, same here. Has anyone seen any performance boost? Is it worth downloading the whole thing again?

Okay, I have a quick question..

Will there ever be a FarCry Multiplayer download? (Just got my new shiny/fast computer, now I'm interested)

/me goes to check out SP demo

k a silly little problem here, ... ran it and it has alot of maps missing, and it says Replace me, red map black letters, for the sky... those gray balls are all over the place (supposed to be rocks),, anyone got any solutuions to this? help!

The caves look so damn good..the best graphics i had in a game so far..and it looks better then the doom III screenshots.

Yay pay no attention to my last post , got it working!, :), wow, yeh its kool, whats Doom 3? :p

is the demo level supposed to end when the elevator reaches the top. and you see that creature.

Guide to tweaking the demo.

Also to get bodies to stay put p_deathtime 9999 in console, they will stay much longer.

EDIT- Yes it does end once u see the creature after using the elevator. I'm assuming that door leads into the reasearch facility itself. Seeing how the whole level was about getting into the facility.

i can't open teh fricken elevator door! it says "Press use to open door", so i press use... NOTHING HAPPENS! GRRR...

is opening that door the end of the level?

and when is this going to be officially released by ubisoft?

Go elsewhere in the caves, you'll find a big power switch; pull it and the elevator doors will open.

Farrow, simply open the console while playing the demo and write /p_deathtime 9999

Edit: Maybe it was \ don't remember :p

No, going up the elevator then walking to a door is the end of the level.

My comments in that other thread made it pretty clear what I thought of this one, and to make a long story short: if this is anything like the full game, than I won't even consider buying it.

- The AI is average and buggy
- The freedom is non-existent
- As is the 'feeling' of the game (that Doom 3, HL2 and STALKER do have)
- The graphics are just stuffing to fill up the empty hole called gameplay
- The monster looked shitty
- The monster isn't supposed to be there in the first place, it doesn't fit with the game and make it look ridiculous
- The leveldesign is bad, the island environment serves no role whatsoever, wouldn't have made a difference if the game was situated in a frigging warehouse
- The presentation of the demo was horrible, a parade of missing textures and models (although I doubt that this is CryTek's fault)
- The art is ruined by normal mapping overuse

The first demo Fort was pretty cool and all (although some of the above criticism also apply to Fort), but this is garbage.

the caves freaked me out. I was all set to have to cut down multiple monsters leaping from the shadows. The sound was good too. I still don't like how slowly you move though. (I know it's realistic, but the sprint could be faster). I was also mildly disappointed by the fact that the flashlight doesn't cast volume shadows.

Overall judgement: I like.

But I will be needing a new gfx card with these new games :( I just got my own place so I dont have any moneyyyys!!!! help meeeee!

Unless you didn't download an illegal copy of the new demo from some guy who ripped it off a PC gamer CD, there will be bugs and missing textures. As for the A.I., um...a platoon of mercs running over to investigate where they heard the sniper shots and calling in reinforcements via helicopters and boats isn't bad A.I. to me, don't know how high your standards are when it comes to A.I.

The guy forgot to decompile and extract some files which made the level buggy and missing textures. He fixed the links to get rid of the grey balls. Also I think the monsters add a sense of mystery and horror to the game, maybe some people just aren't into that kinda stuff.

Whatever though, you are entitled to your opinion but I think the demo rocks. I mean, I've seen the A.I. do some stupid things like running around trees, but it more than makes up for it by calling in reinforcements via chopper, land, and boats. I was VERY surprised when I saw the guys swimming over to my sniper spot to investigate because they had no boat.

I think the demo was awesome and I can't wait for the game to come out.

Pvt Ryan just wants to play soldier, :p... I think your expecting too much sir, perhaps you should start making your own game, with brilliantly realistic AI, :p ... Doom III doesnt have as much freedom WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT, ? its clear that your defending your beliefs on what the other games will provide,, but one second, ... have you played Stalker.? have you played HL2, (not the beta), You sound like your delusional about what this game was going to provide. Its beautiful. and you are a fool for slagging off this effort Eidos have put into this, not too mention everything will be fully editable when finished, (great for mod makers)

P.S the atmosphere from outdoors to indoors is awsome, I agree. and the water reflections in the cave, :D ,

My only complants about the AI:
- Could shoot a guy half a mile away while hiding and within a few mins guys are on top of you
- pick guys out trying to find you when hiding in a bush, one at a time. No one seems to notice a thing.

Other complaints:
- I shoot a guy and he slides down a hill at a very slow and steady pace since there is no friction or any attempt to simulate it.
- When I shot a guy on the ground and he started to slide, the blood spot on the ground stayed where he died and grew and grew in size when the body was 20 feet away.

I love the graphics, for the most part. Love the wide open spaces. Team AI is good.

I enjoy the game and think it will be pretty fun. Not "Game of the Year" fun but fun none the less.

where is the research zip file in Far Cry folder
I cant find it :frown:
