NEW MODERN WARFARE 2 TRAILER - MULTIPLAYER

Looks interesting, too bad I suck at COD4 and rarely get killstreak rewards beyond UAVs and the occasional airstrike.

CoD4's multi is a damn exercise in frustration because of how damn spammy and twitchy it is. Don't get me wrong, it's great to blow off some stress with every once in a while, and I'm not even half bad, it just doesn't nail the aesthetic properly for me. Kills don't even really feel all that fun.

But damn, Infinity Ward sure has mastered every little trick when it comes to PC optimization and stunning environments that perform beautifully on a plethora of PCs.

Due to the way guns feel and sound, kills are immensely fun to me. But it can be a frustrating game, because in modes like DM and TDM, everyone is scattered around the map randomly and I bet most my kills there are from shooting people in the back. And likewise, most of my deaths are from being shot in the back, totally oblivious of any enemies. That's why I prefer S&D and CTF because the enemy is on one part of the map and you are on the other part.

The only thing I absolutely hated about COD4's mp was the wallhacking and aimbotting helicopters. :frown:
Nade spam and the like never bothered me since you can just throw that shit right back at them.

Play TF2.
I ****ing hate that game.

@Antipop - I play somewhat tactically as so I don't run in the open while being hit by a hail of gunfire. Also Hardcore Headquarters is awesome, and there are plenty of players on the console version.

Poor Cavalry never sees the quality past his generic CoD.

My view of what tactical is has changed somewhat since my introduction to Project Reality. COD feels like childsplay when compared if you ask me.

And Project Reality feels like childsplay compared to ARMA+ACE-mod.

CoD isn't very realistic, but provides a very good ground for a realistic game. Infantry combat and movement in "realistic" games like ARMA2 and Red Orchestra is awkward as fuck, while it's smooth and natural in CoD.

I think it's fair to say that both genres could stand to learn a lot from each other. There's elements in so called "realistic" games that are just patently unrealistic, annoying and downright cumbersome and stupid--and there's elements of games such as Modern Warfare that go way overboard and become unapproachable childish fragfests in the majority of online matches.

If only developers of realistic shooters knew how to make their games even remotely optimized or approachable these days. I miss the era of the original Ghost Recon.

This. Very This.

@Sheepo - the only cartoony game I've ever enjoyed was Cel Damage on the original xbox. Also, for a military game, TF2 is not one.

CoD can be a very tactical game if you choose the right games, like people have said, S&D is the best multiplayer game mode, you don't respawn when killed, nade spamming is largely ineffective, especially if you know where they are going to fall at the start, and you come at each other from two sides of the map.

Its superb especially in clan matches even though I left that behind yonks ago, still extremely fun on multiplayer. I just hope with this new one they don't go overboard with the kill streak perks. The bloody choppers were bad enough.

Yep. Hardcore search and destroy is the way to go. The deathmatch modes are too scattered and you often don't know where the enemy is coming from. Also the amount of points you can earn in S&D usually exceeds the other modes. Claymore kills while you are dead are nice also.

Comparing PR to CoD is ridiculous.

I'm not comparing the games - not at all. There is no denying the two games are worlds apart and that's obvious from the fact one is built up around realistic military gameplay and the other is more marketed towards the frantic and faster-paced shooter fan. I was merely finding it hard to be tactical in the latter when none of the gameplay elements really allow it, moreso now that I have experienced PR. Comparing experiences, if anything.

I hate TF2 for its cartoony feel. I've always hated the games that looked cartoony, and favored ones more like Cod4. Also, class system ftl.

Um, I was referring to your last sentence. Which I still don't understand at all.

TF2 is a military ''cartoon'' (I don't want to call it that) but furthermore, the way the game looks doesn't change the game itself. I'd find your argument a little more acceptable if you said you didn't like how TF2 plays, not how it looks.

Judging a game by its art style is probably the most childish thing I have ever heard.

Especially when the game has a phenomenal art style.

I don't like TF2 at all either.
The gameplay is just not my cup of tea, too fast and I just can't get used to any of the classes aside from the Demoman.

If Modern Warfare 2 puts an AK-103 in the game... that would be the greatest thing IW could do for me! (sorry can't put it into words)

At least you have a legitimate reason for disliking it.

I actually have to agree with you. I could never actually get any good at TF2 and the only class i was competent with was the spy, then when class updates started rolling out and was basically forcing me to play other classes to get all the weapons in order to keep up with the competition I just got irritated and fed up. Now it's not installed anymore :|

If I may guess: Did you specifically play on 32-player servers? Those are probably the worst for learning the game since the maps are actually designed for 24 players. 32 player servers are far too spammy and hectic for strategy, skill and learning to come through easily, at least as far as I'm concerned.

How the hell is it not valid to dislike a game for its art style? It's a significant portion of the game, some may even say it's the defining factor of a game like TF2. If you don't like it, it could easily put you off enjoying the game. This seems more like "I like the art style, so if anyone else doesn't then they're wrong."

For the record, I love the art style ... never could get into the game though. Maybe I will try it again on less populated servers.

It just seems a little pretentious to not play a game specifically because of its art style. Katamara Damacy is a childish looking game, but it's fun, no? Can't you say the same for Roco Loco, Super Mario Galaxy, Banjo Kazooie, and any other (fun) game with a cartoony or "childish" art style?

If it really affects your enjoyment of the game, then you don't have to play it. But it's akin to judging a book by its cover. "I don't like how this game looks, so I won't play it." Your loss, nine times out of ten.

yeah I did actually :|

I have played TF2 and the class system put me off more then the art style, I hated how easy it was to snipe a heavy (big and slow) but harder to get say a scout (small and fast). I know each class had its pro's and con's, but they were pretty unbalanced. I may have given TF2 another chance, but its bright atmosphere makes it feel very meh to me.

Not to say the killstreaks in COD 4 were balanced, I hated how an airstike can kill nothing, yet helicopters destroy (especially when UAV's are launched). The weapons too, M16 overuse in the regualr MP modes turn me off from that, but hardcore modes make it more fair since most (if not all) weapons are 1 or 2 shot kills.

The only thing I absolutely hated about COD4's mp was the wallhacking and aimbotting helicopters. :frown:

I hated those things too. I swear to god they hunt alphabetically... As soon as those things fly into the map their sights are usually locked on to me already. That's one of the reasons I played a lot more hardcore, just so the helos would get dropped real fast.
