now any noob can play, so much for listening to footsteps. 50% of the time you know where they are, especially if the enemy is awping from across the map, and you now know exactly where he is after shooting your teammate...

all i can say is lame
 
I haven't played it yet but it sounds pretty crap. I liked listening for footsteps it added a whole different layer to the gameplay.

Its fine. Its just a better radar thats all. Great update. Plus they fixed all the clipping problems on train!

Are you f ucking kidding me??? This is the worst update that I can remember. It's so stupid and so unnessicary. Valve has already noobed up the game so bad its barely exceptable i.e the stupid names of the rooms and the power of the guns and etc. Plus the stupid radar is huge! It takes up like a quarter of the screen. Also it takes away from the teamplay of the game and makes it like we got some ailean sixth sense. Why does valve always try to fix things that aren't broken? Did they really need to noob up episode 2? Did they need to invent some stupid new radar? No. I understand the intention but really why add in something like this when the game is set up almost perfectly? If they added the sight thing on the old radar it wouldn't be so bad but really isn't that what teammates are for?

also, what was wrong with the old radar? what kind of retard needs to see the entire map to use a radar effectively?

If you whining nubs want to play it like the original then do just that, go play 1.6. There's nothing wrong with the update, CS:Source is Valve's work, they can do what they want with it. Don't be so moronic because it isn't EXACTLY the same as 1.6.
 
I just tried, I'm staring at the enemy and my teamate enters from the other side, I'm hoping he knows the enemy is there cuz he's on the damned radar now, yet he comes up to me and tries to shoot me! Just goes to show how retarded people are.
 
Who cares about the radar, I think the new crouching thing is monumentally game-changing. Imo it's awesome because you can use cover a lot better and i think it's more realistic.

Your view when you crouch is higher up. Your model and hitboxes are the same, but you see and shoot with a higher view. I think this is cool because it sort of simulates peeking out.

i fail to see the problem with not liking an update that makes the game worse instead of advancing it. although it is pretty fun to watch when you're dead.
 
It was an OK update. I hardly ever crouch so that doesn't really affect me.

If there was a way to go back to the minimalist radar before then I would. It gave me all the info I needed without getting in the way. I use my eyes and ears and simple deduction to know where enemy is. If gun fire is over to the left or if a teammate dies around the corner, gee whiz where could the enemy be? Funny thing is a lot of people on pubs don't respond to that kind of info and keep going the other way. I guess I still have to get used to it yet.

When you are dead, all the paths that people take really crowd the radar too. I guess it doesn't matter since you are dead. /shrug

All the people in the server I was playing kept calling it gaydar. :naughty:
 
I want to say 2 things, "I told you so" and "I freaking hate Valve" - they may have a clue when it comes to some things, but other areas (Like CS) they should leave it alone.

CS:S is dead to me and if they touch normal CS I'll pretty much hate them forever.

So you could do better? The CS:S cummunity has been calling for updates for ages. Whenever VALVe do (and I'm not just talking about this time) the cummunity bitches and moans.

Just give it some time and you'll get used to it. Or go play CS 1.6.

The fact that you're shunning Valve for trying (and succeeding, except with few players such as yourself) to make their games better is laughable.

How could you say such a thing? It says right on the box that cs:s is a game that requires "teamplay" and strategy. So by giving the player some kind of special magical radar thing without a teammate actually telling them of a enemy or the player actually seeing the enemy, it takes away from the teamplay and ruins the immersion and semi-realism of the game. No one here ever said all the updates are bad but when you deviate from the critical mechanics of the game so that it can be more noob friendly for pubs you might as well give it a whole new name. Don't give me that go play 1.6 bullshit either. Many people including me enjoy playing source because it is graphically better, theres less hackers, and so far there's less annoying 12 year olds that won't shut up on there mics. Source is also a lot more predicatable aiming and is a bit easier overall making it more fun. But all I'm saying is make updates but ones that don't change the way the game is played drastically. For example I wouldn't mind a change of prices of weapons and equipment and I wouldn't mind if they made the grenades do more damage. These are very small changes and they don't really change the main mechanics of the game.

Like with colson, I'm not against updates and improving it, but things like this are just too far, they're killing the gameplay of Counter-Strike.

Doom 3 is as much Doom 1 as it is Doom 3 - Trust me, that made more sense when I first thought of it.

What I'm saying is, Doom 3 is basically the same gameplay, you run around dark corridors looking for red keys to open the red doors and you mindlessly blast monsters.

This has severely affected gameplay in Counter-Strike, which I'm against.


I'll re-approach the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it cliche" - The gameplay of Counter-Strike is fine, including the use of radar, knowing where your enemies are or aren't, use of sound and so on, everything this radar affects in gameplay - There is nothing dramatically wrong with it and this update basically kicking that cliche in the face.


All I really want is a simple 'visual refresh' of CS 1.6 on the Source engine with maybe 1 or 2 small mechanics of gameplay changed. ;(
 
The radar is nice, I REALLY love the health bar.

de_train looks alot cooler with HDR ON.

Don't pull the "You're all ungrateful bastards" card just because some people don't like the new update. It's not like they gave us some side bonus which doesn't really affect the game, the game has been almost completely changed now and we can't go back...what are you expecting us to say? "Thanks valve!" ? There's a difference between being an "ungrateful shit" and being pissed at valve for changing the entire gameplay of CSS.

And yes, I have played CSS with the new update and the new radar does suck ass. I'm not an "ungrateful little shit" because I hate the new radar. Get over your damn fanboyism for 2 seconds and start learning to accept others opinions..
 
It seems alot of people are bitching, when they don't know what the radar does.

It doesn't show everyone on the other team all the time.
Everytime I've seen someone spoted, they showed in the same spot for around 2 seconds.

If you're saying that all skill was thrown out the window, you're a moron. How about you pop out and kill the people while they're checking out their radar?
Listening still plays as much of a role as it did before.

I am really hating CS players.

Well you know what you can do if you don't like the changes, seeing as it closely resembles a CERTAIN game how about going to play that one instead?

I always have hated the CS community mostly. Most of them bitch about changes when they have no idea what it does and what was changed. Just go over to SPUF in the CS:S section, you'll see what I mean. ;)

disturbed, so you're assuming (that's the keyword here) that everyone in this thread who has not posted in a positive light about the most recent update was lobying for valve to release an update ? I know I wasn't, I want them to basically leave it alone.

Also, has anyone directly insulted Valve in this thread ? I think the worst was me saying they butchered CS.. so, why complain about others on other forums ? It seems the very few of us who do not like this update have decent reasoning and are being reasonable about it. :)

So, how do you know anyone this thread is being 'ungrateful' - have any of the other people who have 'complained' being seen making posts asking for Valve an update to CS:S ?

I'm not even part of the 'cs community,' I only play in competitions/tournaments and at lan cafes when I'm there with friends, I don't visit any online forums or anything because I also don't like the cs community. And if your comment was directed at myself [and others] it doesn't really apply because as said, I'm not part of the community nor do I regularly complain or do anything 'bad.' ;)

Pyscho, you're over-simplifying it and taking things out of context, go away. :)
