new radar sucks ass

I wasn't going to be bothered playing CS:S with the update, considering I don't play it much anyway, but after reading all these posts I think I will.

I think it does change gameplay a bit. Knowing where someone is ahead of time will change what you were going to do. All it takes is a teammate to spot an enemy. Now you know it would have been a bad idea to rush in without some kind of grenade first if there are a few enemies around the corner. Or maybe now the radar shows a guy to the left of you down a hall that you can nail in the back.

I think it's funny that this was aimed at pubs. Most guys in pubs are running and gunning. A lot of them don't pay attention to their radar, let alone a fading enemy dot. You have to be well prepared for someone to know exactly where you are which puts pressure on teamwork which pubs don't have.
If anything it helps CSS matches with all the info it provides. At least in matches more people might take the time to study the radar.

"Completely changed gameplay" Pardon me, but what the **** are you on about? Have you even played? It's the exact same thing, except you're slightly more situationally aware if you have time to look at the radar during a firefight.

Talk about over reacting. I'd hate to see you people if they were to do something like take out a weapon.

And as for "it's a teamplay game, we shouldn't need the radar" let me just laugh for a minute. Let's not be ignorant of the fact that teamplay online is a joke. Honestly I can't believe you brought that up as an argument. This radar makes up for the fact that people don't use radio commands such as "enemy spotted". Mind you that's pretty much the ONLY radio command this radar replaces.

I still don't understand what you people mean by "completely changed" gameplay.

And by the way, there is a console command to turn off the radar if that helps.

I'd like to point out that I'm not in the 'completely changed gameplay' camp and it seems I've successfully shown I am correct and have freed myself from possible further discussion.. :p

Good day chaps.

Wait, I thought of a good point for this, if you happen to be in a war/pug online and do not have a mic so you aren't able to quickly scream "x is at y" this could be useful - otherwise, I'm strongly against it. /puts foot down

It's alsmot exactly the same as the old radar except you can see where the enemy is/was.

It makes the game more tactical and enjoyable tbh...

But it keeps distracting me when I play :p

I like the new radar, shows exactly where your team are so you can stick together... makes the game much more tactical. And it doesn't really give away the enemy position..

I played til 2am last night and I gotta say I love the new radar. My friend took me to some weak server where he was owning up, and everyone there was complaining about the radar. I think one guy used it as an excuse to wall me, but with my ping spikes I can't say for sure.
I think krynn was there.
I changed to a local server and everyone was neither here nor there about it. I would actually just watch the radar if I was folllowing people, but that habit faded fast and I was back into normal mode and started to forget about the radar.

The crouch changed my gameplay. People don't seem to be taking much advantage of it but I think it gives my playstyle a huge advantage. It did cause me to die before I got used to it because I jumped down to a point to deagle snipe someone but I was too tall to see anything higher then their feet. :x
It also makes hiding under trains a little harder.

All in all I approve. Spec'ing is great.

Now I'm oftenly found standing still staring at my radar...
It's soo much easier now. Exploiting it is no problem, if you want to check something out (like in dust2, want to check ddoors from B or short A) you can just turn 45° and you can see further.

Although it kinda destroys my advantage of my super radar awareness, I like it :)

Yeah same for me, pretty colors :imu:

new radar rocks...if anything it promotes teamplay as it allows you to be much more tactical aware(being able to see which way temmates face fx.), it also makes matches faster since it's more diffficult to camp the match out and people will generally find eachother faster.

One thing I have really noticed is an increase in random nades (especially flash) in pubs. I can't count on how many times I've been blinded in maps like Office and Dust 2 where multiple paths cross. From teammates and the enemy, they see dots all over their radar and just throw.

after playing it for a while my maion problem with it is just that the increased detail makes it much harder to just quickly glance at and know straight away where every1 is, now i spend longer studying it to figure out wtfs going on. i wouldnt have minded enemies popping up for a second or 2, i just think putting a detailed map in clutters it up too much

[edit] and i mean, really, showing exactly where the bomb is is taking things too far, if youre that shit that you cant find the bomb you shouldnt be allowed to play.

I kinda agree here. It takes me a little longer to get a hold of what people are doing if there's action.
The bomb thing I think is worse, but only because it's harder for me to see than a blinking red dot. All night I was wonder where the bomb was.

I think all you have to do is get used to it, probably wont take long.

i agree with you, the new update is stupid and it ****ed up my skin and all the mods on cs. Now the game sometimes crashes and that NEVER happened to me before. I wish they just left the shit the same. The crouch view update is ok I guess though. I dont even need a radar anyway. I just hear where enemy shots are coming from to aproximate their position or listen to the sound of the footstep to tell on which terrain they are or how far away. The radar takes up too much space now.

Mine doesn't crash or lag either.

It really makes it too easy for the rushing team. Just pop your head out and now your whole team gets an idea of what they have to face around the corner. They just rush harder and hit their marks that much easier.

Maybe people in pubs on D will have to down their targets faster and get used to the idea of stealth. What's that shift key do again? It's so funny when people say you hack but you just listen to footsteps. (tonights experience)

So your saying that by actually showing the map it makes it somewhat harder to see where your team mates are and the enemy is?

So your prefered it with just the red dots in empty space?

Hm..k.

Oh well about mods getting screwed up, the creators should have patched them by now. VALVe isn't responsible for them.

I think what he's saying is that because there is so much detail, it takes longer to proccess that information and less time looking ahead ready to shoot. So there is a bigger chance of an enemy coming around the corner and popping you in the head while you are looking at the radar.

Sorta like looking in your rear view mirror trying to read a sign or license plate while driving and running into the car infront of you (instead of just glancing to see if there is a car behind you).

Been playing css for the last few hours and um... I love it! Took a small bit of getting used to but I think it (the radar) really speeds up the game nicely, go VALVe!

the radars fine...valve should adjust the dmg for the god damn awp

yes because red dots on empty space are a lot easier to see than dull coloured dots on a multi-oloured background. and from knowledge of the map and communication you can tell where teammates are on that simple radar and not need a radar with every little detail of the map on it. i just don't think the radar needs to show all the static unchanging stuff thats always gonna be there no matter what.

The new minimap is fine, however, showing enemies on it is absurd. Kind of stupid.

As for the newb comment, Source actually takes a great deal of skill. Maybe less than 1.6 (but not much), but to actually play it on a high-level requires intimate knowledge of the game.

FYI, I played 1.6 at the highest levels of competition, CAL-M/P with e-police and went to CPL a couple times with u5 and e-police. Source is/was just as competitive as 1.6, just in a different manner. I'm not so sure now with this new "seeing the other player bit".

Agreed. I'm looking forward to them changing the prices of the weapons. I hope they make the awp like 10 g's. The awp would actually become a weapon you would charish and there would be so much less of them it would be excellent. Maybe some people will have to get some skill and use a scout. I'm tired of playing aztec walking through the double doors and getting capped. Or trying to cross the bridge. It's just ridiculously hard somtimes if you got a bunch of awpers.

any1 else have noticed that bullets seem to fly trough objects better after update? Or is it just my imagination....

The dots are blue and green. Hardly dull colours :D

IMO AWP is for N00bs.

I love the new radar , the old one was useless. I don't see how showing the enemy on the radar for a couple of seconds ruins anything. In reality and perfect gaming world , pepole would announce when they encounter an enemy , in CS alot of players don't do that so i guess the radar also addresses this point.

Anyhow , it's fun too look at when you're dead , seeing the paths the players move and stuff. I like the health bars too.

All pub servers should have AWP banned and leave it to the people who have the skill to use it properly without plonking their ass on the ground and just picking off people from CT Spawn.

Refering to Dust2 :p

"If Valve update's the game (which they payed for) in a way which some people don't like, then these people don't have the right to complain because they complained about other updates aswell."

Sometimes you guy's can really piss me off.

If the awp was 10k people what would likely happen on pub (imo) is that anyone who ever bought one would find a camping spot and not move until the map change, regardless of bombs, time limits hostages or anything else. Nobody wants to lose 12k worth of kit... Obviously some people do this anyway, but in my experience they're usually the ones that are too rubbish to do anything else and are relatively easily dealt with.

A small increase in the cost of an awp wouldn't do too much hurt, but 10k? Be serious...

I think the AWP needs some kind of feature to stop it firing so fast or something.

I don't know lol.

Of course. :)

wait, people still complain about the awp ? lol.. oh dear, give up on cs, now, or a few years ago would've been preferable.

I don't mind the awp. It makes you commit yourself to tactics but when the whole team has it...it's just annoying =/
